The Internet service sector in India could generate 10 million new jobs by 2026. Currently, about two million people are employed in this area, according to a recent report.
The 'Impact of Internet Services on economy in India' report, released by the Internet and Mobile Association of India, estimates the sector's value will grow from roughly $33.8 billion to $96.4 billion by 2026. The number of Internet users in the country is also expected to increase from 48.1 million to 76.2 million by that time. Cheaper internet connectivity is the main driver.
Smartphone users are projected to increase by 1.75 times, reaching 52.6 million. The report notes that changes in technology and business models, aligned with internet needs, will help meet customer aspirations and demands.
It also states that with favorable government policies, better infrastructure for expanding internet connectivity, and developed distribution networks, the sector's value could reach $124 billion.
