Eligibility

BDS students can do internships in Dental Science after completing their degree. The one-year internship occurs in the fifth year and is an essential part of the course. MDS students can also do internships for specialization and deeper knowledge. MDS specializations include oral surgery, pedodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial pathology, and prosthodontics.

Process

Candidates typically don't need to apply themselves. The institute usually sends students for internships, so there is no specific application process. After completing the degree, the internship lasts one year. Points from the internship are added to the final result. Many places also pay a stipend during this period.

NOC required for internship now

It is mandatory to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Dental Council of India for the one-year internship after BDS. The Council has instructed that no dental college should recognize a student for internship without an NOC from the DCI and their BDS institute. If a student interns at a dental college without an NOC, the college management will be held responsible.
