For students seeking engineering education in Uttar Pradesh without the burden of excessive tuition costs, the College of Engineering and Rural Technology (CERT), Meerut, often emerges as a sensible and grounded option. Established in 1999, the institution is situated on a lush 20-acre campus along the Delhi–Haridwar Highway, offering a calm and focused academic atmosphere.

CERT represents the experience of many emerging private engineering colleges in India — institutions where official ambitions and student realities coexist in a more practical light. While the college showcases its placement efforts and rural technology initiatives, students frequently describe it as a modest, no-frills campus dedicated to providing accessible technical education and a recognised technical degree.

Unlike the highly commercialised image of elite NCR engineering institutes, CERT appeals to students that value opportunity over prestige. For many, it is not a destination but a stepping stone towards professional growth, skill development, and a stable engineering career.

Incubation & Innovation Centre

The CERT and Shree Ram Innovation & Incubation Centre (CSRI2C) is a platform dedicated to nurturing creativity, entrepreneurship, and research-driven innovation among students and faculty members. The centre aims to transform innovative ideas into practical projects and potential startups through mentorship, technical guidance, and industry collaboration.

Equipped with modern infrastructure and collaborative workspaces, the centre encourages interdisciplinary learning and entrepreneurial thinking. It regularly organises workshops, hackathons, and industry interaction programs, motivating students to work on projects in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, Renewable Energy, and Sustainable Development.

Courses and Academic Programs

CERT has steadily emerged as a vibrant centre for professional education, offering students an environment where academic curriculum meets practical application. With programs such as B.Tech, MBA, BBA, and BCA, the institution shapes professionals, entrepreneurs, and technology enthusiasts.

The B.Tech program is a major highlight, featuring specialisations including Computer Science Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. The institution focuses on practical exposure, ensuring learning extends beyond traditional classroom boundaries with live projects and technical workshops.

Affordability and Value

Affordability is arguably CERT’s strongest aspect. The annual tuition fee for a B.Tech program ranges between ₹51,600 and ₹65,000, making it one of the more budget-friendly engineering colleges in the region. The estimated total investment for a complete four-year B.Tech degree, including hostel expenses, typically stays within ₹4.5 to ₹5.5 lakhs — noticeably lower than many private colleges across the National Capital Region. For families seeking technical education at a reasonable cost, CERT is a financially practical choice.

Admissions and Eligibility

Admission to CERT’s B.Tech programs is primarily conducted through the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) process, which considers JEE Main scores. The institute generally maintains moderate cutoff ranges, making admission accessible to a broader pool of engineering aspirants. For candidates who do not secure seats through UPTAC, the institute also offers admission through the management quota, based on securing at least 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the 10+2 level.

Admission to the MBA program is based on national-level management entrance examinations such as CAT, MAT, or GMAT.

Campus Life and Infrastructure

CERT’s 20-acre campus is appreciated for its calm, green, and disciplined environment. The infrastructure is practical and functional. Academic facilities adequately support day-to-day learning needs, with the central library housing more than 80,000 books and academic resources. Wi-Fi connectivity is available in hostels and selected campus zones.

The institute provides separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, operating under a structured and disciplined environment. Campus life at CERT is relatively quiet and academically oriented, strongly prioritising discipline and academic consistency. For students seeking a focused and distraction-free experience, CERT offers a stable environment.

Is CERT Worth It?

The value of CERT ultimately depends on what a student expects from their college experience. For self-motivated students seeking an affordable, AICTE-approved degree under the AKTU system, CERT stands out as a practical option. It is suitable for those who prioritise affordability, academic discipline, and degree completion over luxury infrastructure.

In essence, CERT is best understood as a value-oriented institution. It provides students with an affordable entry point into technical education. For disciplined and career-focused students willing to create opportunities through their own initiative, the institute can serve as a reasonable stepping stone toward long-term career growth.
