If you're a student from Khammam or the surrounding districts looking for an affordable, local engineering college with a specific focus on mining, Daripally Anantha Ramulu College of Engineering & Technology (DARE or DARCET) is a name you'll hear. Established in 2007 and affiliated with the well-regarded Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH), it's a private institution that has carved out a niche. Its reputation isn't built on national rankings or sky-high packages, but on providing accessible technical education, particularly in Mining Engineering, to students who might not have the means or desire to migrate to Hyderabad. That's its core proposition. And it's one that resonates with a certain segment of the student population in Telangana.

Courses and Academic Programs at DARE

DARE offers a broad slate of programs under the JNTUH curriculum, from diplomas to postgraduate degrees. The B.Tech intake is sizable, hovering around 500-600 students annually across nine branches. Computer Science and Electronics & Communication have healthy intakes, but the college's distinct identity is tied to its 120-seat B.Tech in Mining Engineering program. It's a rarity in the private college landscape of the region and draws students specifically targeting careers in firms like Singareni Collieries. Other branches like Civil, Mechanical, and the newer Agricultural and Automobile Engineering round out the core engineering offerings.

On the postgraduate side, the MBA program stands out for its sheer scale—a 300-seat intake is one of the largest in the area. M.Tech is available in several specializations, including Power Electronics, VLSI, and Computer Science, though seats are more limited. Academically, it's a standard JNTUH-affiliated experience. The semester system is followed rigidly. Faculty strength is reported between 117-129 members, with some PhD holders like Dr. Daripally Kiran (CSE) and Dr. Shaik Hameedullah (MBA) noted. It's not a research powerhouse, but student reviews often mention approachable faculty who help with syllabus coverage and exam prep. A practical differentiator is its status as an authorized IGNOU center for Vertically Integrated Engineering Programmes (VIEP), offering an additional pathway for qualifications.

DARE Placements: Packages, Recruiters & Reality Check

This is where you need to read between the lines. The college's official placement claims, echoed on some portals, cite an average package of 6 LPA and a highest package of 24 LPA for 2025. The reality, as echoed across student reviews on Shiksha and CollegeDunia, is more grounded. For most students, especially in core branches like Civil, Mechanical, or even ECE, the average starting salary is closer to 3 to 3.5 LPA. That 24 LPA figure is almost certainly an exceptional, off-campus achievement, not the norm.

Placement percentages vary wildly by branch, which tells the real story. Computer Science and IT see the most action, with claimed placement rates around 86%. For ECE, it drops to about 42%. For core branches like Mining and Civil, the on-campus placement rate can be as low as 20-30%. Many students in these fields secure jobs through their own networks or by targeting government sector exams. Top recruiters that do visit include IT service giants like TCS, Wipro, HCL, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra. For the mining branch, regional mining firms are the key recruiters. The college promotes internship collaborations with names like Microsoft and IBM, though these typically involve certification courses rather than direct internships for all.

So, the placement cell functions, but with clear limitations. It provides a platform, but landing a high-paying core engineering job directly from campus is not the typical outcome here.

Fees and Financial Aid at DARE

Affordability is a central part of DARE's appeal. The B.Tech tuition fee is around ₹53,000 per year, which makes the total four-year cost approximately ₹2.12 lakhs—a figure that's hard to find for a private engineering college. MBA fees are similarly positioned at ₹40,000-₹42,000 annually. Diploma courses are even more accessible at about ₹15,500 per year.

Hostel fees add another ₹40,000 to ₹50,000 per year, which includes mess charges. The major financial aid mechanism is the Telangana State Post-Matric Scholarship scheme, which offers Reimbursement of Tuition Fee (RTF) for eligible SC, ST, BC, and EBC category students. This effectively makes education free or highly subsidized for a significant portion of the student body, aligning with the college's role in serving the local and regional community.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admissions are channeled through the state's common entrance tests. For B.Tech, you need a valid rank in TS EAMCET. For MBA and MCA, it's TS ICET. Diploma admissions go through TS POLYCET, and M.Tech requires TS PGECET or a GATE score.

The cutoffs reflect the college's position in the state's pecking order. They are not intensely competitive. For the 2024 counseling round, the closing rank for General category students in CSE was 142,664. For ECE, it was 142,156. The MBA cutoff was around 48,080. These ranks give you a clear idea: DARE is an option for students with moderate EAMCET/ICET scores.

The selection process follows the standard 70:30 split. Seventy percent of seats are filled through the Convener Quota (state counseling), and the remaining 30% are Management Quota (Category B) seats, where fees are higher and can range from ₹70,000 to ₹1 lakh per year depending on the branch's demand.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The campus spans about 11 acres on the Mahabubabad road, a couple kilometers from Khammam town. Infrastructure is a mix of adequate and dated. Labs are equipped, with over 125 computer systems and specialized setups for mining and agriculture. The library holds over 25,000 volumes. There's an indoor sports stadium and outdoor grounds. Maintenance, however, gets mixed reviews, with some complaints about older equipment and washroom upkeep.

Hostels are separate for boys and girls, and their proximity to the academic blocks is a plus. Safety and warden supervision are described as good. The food in the mess is consistently labeled "average" in student feedback—neither a highlight nor a major scandal. For transportation, the college runs its own bus fleet covering Khammam town and neighboring areas like Madhira, Yellandu, and Wyra, which is essential for day scholars from these parts.

Social life is largely campus-centric. There are technical fests and cultural events, but the overall atmosphere is described as more functional than vibrant. It's a commuter and local student-heavy population.

Student Reviews: What DARE Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing feedback from CollegeDunia, Shiksha, and forums like Reddit gives a consistent, nuanced picture. The positives are clear: it's considered a good, affordable option for local students. The faculty is often praised for being supportive and helpful with academics. The mining engineering program is repeatedly cited as the college's standout, legitimate strength.

But the negatives are equally consistent and important to weigh. A recurring, serious point raised on platforms like Reddit (r/Ni_Bondha) is the presence of pronounced caste-based groupings among the student body, which some find exclusionary and a negative social dynamic. The administration is described as strict, with heavy fines for low attendance and rules governing dress code (like banning round-neck T-shirts) and punctuality. As discussed, the placement reality often disappoints against the brochure claims. Finally, some feel the infrastructure, while sufficient, shows its age and lacks high-end maintenance.

A typical student verdict you'll find paraphrased online: "It's a decent college if you're from around here and want to study close to home without huge debt. Just manage your expectations on placements and campus culture."

Verdict: Is Daripally Anantha Ramulu College of Engineering & Technology Worth It?

DARE is a classic example of a college that serves a specific need very well, but isn't for everyone. It is absolutely worth it if you are a student from Khammam or the surrounding districts with a moderate TS EAMCET/ICET rank, seeking an affordable JNTUH degree without the cost and hassle of moving to Hyderabad. It is particularly compelling if you are intent on pursuing Mining Engineering, where its regional reputation and industry connections are genuine assets. For students eligible for state scholarships, it becomes a very low-risk financial proposition.

You should probably look elsewhere if your primary goal is a immersive, cosmopolitan campus life with high-flying corporate placements. If you're aiming for top-tier IT packages or a vibrant, diverse social environment, the limitations here will feel constraining. DARE is a practical, local solution for engineering education. It provides a degree, a platform, and specific regional opportunities—but it won't fundamentally transform your career trajectory on its own. Your success will depend heavily on your own drive and networking, both during and after your time on campus.
