If you're looking for a nursing college in Haryana that puts clinical practice front and center, Dr. JP Sharma Memorial School and College of Nursing is a name that comes up. Established in 2009 and attached to Rajan Hospital right on campus, this private institute has built a local reputation for turning out job-ready nurses. It's not a sprawling university campus with a buzzing social scene—it's a focused, disciplined training ground. The affiliation with Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHSR), Rohtak and recognition from the Indian Nursing Council (INC) gives its degrees the necessary weight. For students who want to learn nursing by actually doing it, and who don't mind a strict academic environment, this can be a solid, pragmatic choice.
The college offers a tight, focused curriculum across three core nursing programs. With just 110 seats split between them, classes are relatively small, which students often cite as a plus for getting attention. The B.Sc. Nursing program is the main draw, taking in 40 students each year who have cleared 10+2 with PCB and the state CET. The 3.5-year GNM course is another route, while the 2-year Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing is for working GNM diploma holders looking to upgrade.
Academically, the calendar follows the university in Rohtak, so sessions start around August. But the real differentiator is the clinical training. Being headquartered at Rajan Hospital means theory from the classroom is immediately applied in a real hospital setting. That's a significant advantage. Faculty, led by President Dr. Rajan Sharma, are described in reviews as accessible and mentor-like, which helps in a demanding field like nursing. It's a no-frills academic environment, but one designed for practical competency.
Placement in nursing isn't about campus recruitment drives in the traditional engineering sense. Success here is measured by licensure, government exam results, and direct hiring by hospital partners. The college doesn't publish formal LPA packages, which is pretty standard for nursing institutes. The trajectory for graduates typically follows one of three paths: clearing exams like NORCET for government jobs (AIIMS is a noted recruiter), joining major private hospital chains like Fortis or Max Healthcare, or pursuing opportunities abroad.
Alumni profiles show nurses in the UK's NHS and in UAE clinics. For freshers starting in Indian private hospitals, the starting salary is generally estimated between ₹3 to ₹4.5 LPA. That's a decent starting point for the region. The 100% mandatory internship, fulfilled at Rajan and affiliated civil hospitals, is the critical bridge to these jobs. It's not a placement cell that hands you an offer, but the clinical exposure makes you employable. If you're proactive about taking the required exams and leveraging the hospital network, you'll find opportunities.
For a private institution, the fee structure is relatively moderate, especially for the flagship B.Sc. Nursing program. Tuition is estimated at ₹65,000 to ₹70,000 per year, putting the total four-year cost around ₹2.6 lakhs. That's just tuition, though. You need to factor in hostel and mess fees, which add roughly another ₹60,000 per annum. GNM fees are reported inconsistently online—some portals mention very low figures, but a realistic estimate for a private college would align closer to ₹50,000 per year. Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing runs about ₹65,000 yearly.
Remember, these are estimates for 2024-25 and are subject to the annual 5% increment allowed by the Haryana government. Additional examination and university charges are paid separately to Pt. B.D. Sharma University. The college's official website doesn't detail extensive scholarship programs, so financial aid would likely be through state or national schemes for which students must apply independently.
Admission is centralized and merit-based. For the B.Sc. Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programs, the gateway is the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the affiliating university, Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak. You don't need NEET for these courses. For GNM, eligibility is 10+2 with a minimum of 40% aggregate.
The process is straightforward: apply for the CET when applications open (typically May-July), take the exam, and then participate in the centralized online counseling run by the university. Seats are allotted based on your CET merit rank. Like most private colleges in the state, a management quota exists for a percentage of seats as per government guidelines. The key is to focus on securing a good rank in the Haryana nursing CET to have a strong choice during counseling.
This is a compact, functional campus. At 3 acres, it's not a place you go for sprawling lawns or a vibrant "college town" vibe. It's a place to study and train. The infrastructure is built around that purpose: dedicated labs for anatomy, nutrition, and community health, plus a computerized library with around 2,700 books. Sports facilities for cricket, hockey, and swimming are there.
Hostel life is segregated and disciplined. The girls' hostel has a capacity for about 150 students in shared rooms, while the boys' hostel accommodates around 50. The college maintains its own transport buses, which is a major plus for day scholars given the proximity to Jagadhri Railway Station (~1.6 km) and Yamuna Nagar Bus Stand (~2 km). The social life is quiet. You won't find big cultural fests here. The student consensus is clear: it's a place for focused learning, not for a typical "campus experience."
Scouring reviews on portals like CollegeDunia and Shiksha paints a consistent picture. The overwhelming positive is the clinical exposure. Being part of a working hospital from day one is invaluable, and students feel it prepares them exceptionally well for the job. Faculty are repeatedly praised for being supportive and approachable.
But there are consistent negatives, too. The environment is described as strict, with high emphasis on attendance, punctuality, and dress code. The small campus size and lack of major extracurricular events mean campus life can feel limited, especially if you're coming from a larger school environment. One review summed it up neatly: "The college is the best in Yamuna Nagar for B.Sc Nursing if you want to focus on studies and clinicals without distractions." That's the trade-off. You gain rigorous training but sacrifice a more relaxed, socially active college atmosphere.
It depends entirely on what you're looking for in a nursing education. If your priority is hands-on clinical skills, teacher accessibility, and a disciplined path to licensure and a job, this college is a strong contender in the Yamuna Nagar region. The affiliation with Rajan Hospital is a genuine advantage, and the moderate fee structure makes it accessible. The alumni network, with graduates at AIIMS and abroad, shows it can open doors for motivated students.
However, if you envision a college life filled with fests, a large campus to explore, and a more autonomous social environment, you'll likely find it lacking. The strict rules and compact campus are real considerations. This institute is best for the student who is serious, focused, and sees nursing as a vocation first. It's a practical launchpad for a nursing career, not a holistic university experience. For the right student, that's exactly what's needed.
