NIT Hamirpur courses and fees: programme structure, charges and what to verify

NIT Hamirpur’s academic choices span four-year engineering degrees, a five-year architecture degree, dual-degree options and postgraduate study. The institute’s published fee schedule is explicitly titled for students admitted in 2023–24 and onwards, until further revision. It is useful for understanding the structure and category-based tuition relief, but applicants should check the latest institute notice before budgeting or paying. The schedule also distinguishes academic fees from a separately issued hostel and mess notice.

Choose by degree and duration

The institute’s 2024–25 annual report lists nine eight-semester B.Tech programmes: Chemical, Civil, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical, Mathematics and Computing, and Engineering Physics. It separately lists ten-semester dual degrees in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering, plus a ten-semester Bachelor of Architecture. The dual degrees and B.Arch therefore have a longer planned study period than the standard B.Tech routes.

At postgraduate level, NITH lists M.Tech and M.Arch specialisations, an MBA, MSc programmes and doctoral study. The exact specialisations and available seats can change by intake. For the 2026–27 cycle, the institute published separate self-sponsored M.Tech/M.Arch notices and an MBA brochure; these are cycle-specific examples, not guarantees that the same programmes or terms will apply to 2027–28. Check the current admissions notice for the programme and entry route you intend to pursue.

Before comparing branches, use the official bachelor course structures and syllabi. Compare compulsory subjects, electives and semester sequence for the actual degree. A programme title alone does not show its emphasis, workload or fit with a student’s interests.

How to read the published fee schedule

The official fee structure says it applies to students admitted in academic session 2023–24 and onwards until revised. It separates tuition from other charges and gives different columns for Open category, SC/ST/PwD, family income below ₹1 lakh, and family income from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. For the B.Tech, dual-degree and B.Arch table, the listed tuition component is ₹62,500 in the Open column, nil for SC/ST/PwD and the below-₹1-lakh income column, and ₹20,833 for the ₹1-lakh-to-₹5-lakh column. These are schedule amounts, not a quote for a new intake; applicants should verify eligibility and the current order.

The same table contains admission, registration, examination, library, medical, student activity, insurance and other charges in addition to tuition. Its category totals differ, and its first semester includes admission-related items that do not recur in the same way each semester. Do not multiply a first-semester total by the number of semesters to estimate the full degree cost. Read the row labels and the table column that matches the student’s category and income documentation, then confirm any revised schedule with the institute.

The schedule also assigns different study lengths to fee tables: B.Tech runs through semester eight, while the dual-degree and B.Arch tables extend through semester ten. Postgraduate fee tables are separate. They distinguish programmes such as M.Tech/M.Arch, MBA and MSc, and include programme-specific items such as project or dissertation charges. Doctoral fees also have their own schedule. A student should use the exact programme table rather than assume that one degree’s tuition or recurring charges apply to another.

Hostel and mess costs are separate

NIT Hamirpur describes itself as a residential institute in its 2024–25 annual report. The academic fee schedule includes a hostel seat fee among its listed components, while the Chief Warden issued a distinct 2025–26 hostel fee notice covering hostel and mess charges. These documents serve different purposes: the academic fee order does not by itself establish the current room, mess or other residence charges.

The hostel notice is dated for 2025–26, so treat it as a prior-year reference. Check the latest notice for the applicable hostel, mess and payment terms, and whether a charge is one-time, per semester or otherwise assessed. Students who need a full cost estimate should combine the current academic fee order with current accommodation and mess instructions; neither document alone represents the complete cost of attendance.

Scholarships and fee relief

The fee order’s tuition columns show substantial category- and income-linked differences, but the applicant must meet the relevant documented conditions. That relief is not the same as a scholarship award, and the table should not be read as an automatic waiver without checking the current rules and required certificates. NITH’s scholarships and fellowships page links application guidance, including a notice for the 2026–27 session. Deadlines and scheme availability are session-bound; use the current notice rather than relying on a previous application window.

Applicants should prepare the documents specified by the relevant scheme and confirm whether the benefit covers tuition, another fee component, or a stipend. A scholarship may have eligibility, renewal and academic-progress conditions separate from admission eligibility. The institute’s fee table and scholarship notice answer different questions, so verify both before treating a benefit as part of a budget.

Budgeting checklist for applicants

For a realistic estimate, first identify the degree and its duration, then use the corresponding programme table and the student’s category and family-income column. Separate tuition, one-time admission charges and recurring semester charges. Add the current hostel and mess amounts only from the applicable warden notice. Finally, check whether any concession or scholarship requires an application, supporting records or later renewal.

The best available published fee schedule reviewed here remains explicitly labelled 2023–24 onwards until further revision, and the hostel notice is for 2025–26. The institute may issue an updated order. Applicants entering a later session should confirm the latest figures, payment deadlines and eligibility conditions directly with NITH before making financial decisions.
