SD College of Engineering and Technology (SDCET)

SD College of Engineering and Technology (SDCET) in Muzaffarnagar makes an unusual claim — it’s the first NBA-accredited institute in the region. That's not nothing for a private engineering college that opened its gates in 1997. But read enough student reviews on CollegeDunia and Shiksha, and you’ll get a blurrier picture: placements that swing between 80% and ‘no placement’, average packages that don't quite match the brochure, and a campus that's lush but a bit quiet. Still, for families across western UP who can’t push past the ₹70,000-a-year tuition bracket, SDCET’s AICTE-approved programmes and AKTU affiliation keep it on the radar.

Courses and Academic Programs at SDCET

SDCET runs a fairly broad undergraduate engineering menu. B.Tech specialisations include Computer Science & Engineering, an AI stream, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, and Bio Technology. The institute also offers a lone M.Tech in ECE, an MBA, and three polytechnic diploma programmes — CSE, Civil, and EE.

The academic culture leans on the claim of mentorship from professors with IIT and international backgrounds, and campus literature talks of “individual mentorship” and “special attention.” It’s hard to verify how consistently that plays out in every class, but the faculty count of 57 isn’t meagre. One figure that stands out: faculty members have collectively published over 400 research papers. That’s a decent volume for a college of this profile. No PhD headcount is available, so the overall research depth remains a guess.

A Memorandum of Understanding with Quality Austria Central Asia exists, and industrial visits plus workshops with industry professionals are mentioned routinely. How deeply these tie-ups shape the learning experience is something you’d need to check with current students.

SDCET Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

The placement numbers at SDCET read like two different colleges.

The official data from 2023 puts the highest package at ₹8.2 LPA, average at ₹4.1 LPA, and median at ₹3.8 LPA. The placement percentage claim is an average of 50% of students selected. The recruiters list is long — Wipro, Infosys, Capgemini, Deloitte, Chetu, HCL, Tech Mahindra, and a slew of smaller IT players and core engineering firms like L&T, Maruti Suzuki, BHEL, BEL, and Dabur. On paper, that’s enough to give a student hope.

But student reviews on platforms like CollegeDunia paint a muddier picture. Some say 80% to 90% of students get placed. Others bluntly say “no placement.” A review from the IT branch pegged the highest package at ₹6 LPA, while another unverified claim tossed out 20-25 LPA — a number that neither the college’s own data nor the placement track record for tier-3 private institutes supports. For 2026, official claims cite an average of ₹2-3 LPA, which is a steep drop from the 2023 figure, and some reviews place it at ₹1-2 LPA.

What’s likely happening: a handful of students land decent IT offers via campus drives, the average drifts lower, and a significant chunk of mechanical, civil, and electrical students either fend for themselves offline or grab internships that don't convert.

And that internship bit matters. One student review straight-up says “our college does not provide internships.” There’s mention of a “SKILL INTERN PLACEMENT DRIVE” in news items, but if you’re banking on structured industry exposure during the degree, ask hard questions during counselling.

Fees and Financial Aid at SD College of Engineering and Technology

The fee table for 2025-2026 is refreshingly transparent.

TableCards

Course	Annual Tuition (₹)	College Registration (₹)	University Exam Fee (₹)	University Registration (₹)	Total Payable (₹)
MBA	59,700	1,000	10,000	2,300	73,000
M.Tech (ECE)	57,500	1,000	11,000	2,300	71,800
B.Tech (CSE, IT, ECE, ME, CE, EE)	55,000	1,000	8,200	2,300	66,500
Polytechnic (CSE, CE, EE)	30,150	500	850 (combined)	—	31,500

Hostel charges, based on a 2018 review, stood at ₹35,000 per year including food. That’s likely crept up since, but no updated figure is available. The college claims total 4-year B.Tech costs of ₹2.45 lakhs for some branches, while the Civil Engineering stream is pegged at ₹2.63 lakhs including tuition of ₹2.20 lakhs. Even if you factor in a bit of inflation, you’re looking at a sub-3-lakh engineering degree before hostel — which makes SDCET one of the more affordable private options in Uttar Pradesh.

Scholarships can cover up to 80% of college fees, awarded annually to deserving students. The exact criteria aren’t spelled out, so it’s worth contacting the admission office for the fine print.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admission to SDCET runs through UPTAC counselling, which draws on JEE Main ranks for B.Tech, JEECUP for diploma seats, and national-level management entrance exams (CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT) for the MBA programme. CUET UG and PG are also accepted for some courses.

The 2025 cutoff ranks give you a clear picture of how competitive entry actually is. For the General category, Home State, Round 1 closing ranks:

• B.Tech Artificial Intelligence: 1,174,107
• B.Tech Computer Science Engineering: 1,438,087
• B.Tech Civil Engineering: 1,184,035
• B.Tech Mechanical Engineering: 1,471,703
• B.Tech Electrical Engineering: 1,382,134

These are not tight numbers. With ranks routinely above the 10-lakh mark, many branches fill up deep into the counselling rounds. The UPTAC General AI closing rank for Civil Engineering touched 2,019,065, and the polytechnic home state closing rank was 168,838. An MBA seat could be secured with a rank around 122,179.

The application window typically opens in the months leading to the August-September start. For 2026, UPTAC counselling registration is tentatively slated for May, JEECUP registration extended to May 10, and CUET UG is scheduled between May 11 and May 31.

No NRI or management quota specifics are publicly available.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The institute describes its campus as lush green, though its size in acres remains unspecified. There are separate hostels for boys and girls, but the capacity isn’t published. Reviews on hostel life are mixed—no major red flags, but no glowing praise either. The hostel fee, as noted, was ₹35,000 a year including meals as of 2018.

Beyond a mention of workshops and industrial visits, the brief doesn’t detail labs, libraries, or sports infrastructure. It’s safe to say the campus does the job for a pragmatic day-scholar-heavy student body, but don’t expect a residential university vibe.

What Students Say About SDCET — Reviews & Ratings

Online chatter paints a college that works well for a particular kind of student. The positives that recur: faculty mentorship (particularly from professors with IIT backgrounds), affordable fees, and the NBA accreditation edge when applying for government jobs. The negatives aren’t hidden either. Several reviews bluntly criticise the placement cell. “Our college does not provide internships” is a direct quote, and the narrative around placements is inconsistent — some swear by an 80% placement figure, others call it zero.

The research output by faculty is impressive on paper — 400+ papers — but how much of that trickles into undergraduate learning is unclear. One thing that does come through: students who landed placements with Infosys, Wipro, or Capgemini often did so on the back of self-preparation, not a finely greased placement machine.

Verdict: Is SD College of Engineering and Technology Worth It?

SDCET is a cost-effective engineering college that works for students who can’t afford a private university but want an AKTU degree with NBA backing. If you get into the CSE or IT stream, have a knack for self-driven learning, and can hustle for off-campus internships, you might make it work without piling on debt. The ₹4.1 LPA average (when real) is modest but not disastrous for a first job out of college.

But if you’re eyeing the mechanical, civil, or electrical branches, tread carefully. The placement ecosystem for core engineering here looks thin, and the college’s internship support is weak by all accounts. An unverified salary claim of 20-25 LPA isn’t something you want to hang your financial plans on. For most, SDCET is a functional fallback — not a dream destination.
