BAMS admission: NEET, counselling and seat selection
BAMS admission is not a single national application form. The route depends on the academic year, seat quota and institution type. For 2026–27, AACCC states that candidates who qualified NEET (UG)-2026 and seek BAMS seats in the institution streams covered by its notice must register for AACCC UG counselling. AACCC conducts the described AIQ process for Government and Government-aided Ayurveda colleges, Deemed Universities, Central Universities and National Institutes. Its separate authority page says the AIQ counselling for private Ayurveda institutes is run by the respective State or Union Territory authority. Always identify the precise seat before applying. (AACCC UG Counseling; AACCC authority split)
1. Confirm the current route and candidate eligibility
Begin with the NEET UG examination bulletin for the relevant year and the current NCISM regulations and counselling instructions. Check that the candidate’s qualifying education, subject combination, age, marks and category meet the provisions that apply in the chosen year. This article does not set numeric thresholds because the current source pages reviewed do not provide a readable complete candidate bulletin in the page body. The AACCC UG bulletin page lists the 2026–27 registration manual and information bulletin but labels the area “Coming soon”; use the actual current linked documents and latest notices before relying on a rule. (AACCC UG information bulletin page)
NEET qualification is a threshold for consideration within the relevant route, not an allotment. Candidates must also meet the rules for the particular seat and participate in the correct counselling. Do not treat NEET registration, an exam score, a counselling merit position and a final allotment as interchangeable. Save the scorecard and read the counselling bulletin’s eligibility, reservation, document and choice-filling provisions. If a candidate has a special status, domicile requirement, category certificate or document-format issue, confirm its treatment with the authority that controls the target seat.
2. Choose the correct counselling portal
AACCC’s current description divides responsibility by institution type and seat stream. The committee coordinates the AIQ seats it lists, while private Ayurveda institutions’ AIQ counselling is assigned to the respective State/UT authority. There can also be state quota and other institution-specific routes. A college may appear in more than one counselling stream, so do not infer the portal from its name alone. Confirm the seat matrix entry, quota label, institution and academic year in the official source before registering. (AACCC counselling and admissions)
For AACCC 2026–27, the UG page directs eligible NEET-qualified aspirants to register on AACCC for covered AIQ seats and consult the 2026 bulletin. The same page points to round results, seat matrices and reporting instructions. A revised schedule can supersede the first schedule; check the current-events page again when each round is announced. If applying through a State/UT route, use the state’s own notice and portal. A central AIQ result should not be used to claim that a state-quota seat is open, and a state cutoff should not be used as an AACCC AIQ cutoff. (AACCC UG Counseling; AACCC UG schedule)
3. Follow the application sequence
The specific bulletin controls the process, but students should expect to check the official registration window, create an application, provide the required identity and academic details, pay any counselling-stage amount, fill and lock choices, monitor allotment notices and complete reporting as directed. Do not rely on a generic calendar: current rounds and deadlines can be revised. Download the latest schedule and retain a copy of every submitted choice, payment acknowledgement, allotment result and reporting document. If a portal is open for one round, that does not mean registration or choice editing is available for another.
Before choice filling, verify each programme and campus against the current permitted seat matrix. Check the college name, university, location, seat type, category and quota. A broad “Ayurveda college” list may include institutions that do not offer BAMS, have no current permitted seat, or are not in the relevant counselling stream. If the name differs between a regulator record and a portal, investigate the official affiliation or name-change notice rather than assuming they refer to the same campus.
4. Understand charges and refunds
Counselling charges are different from tuition and college expenses. AACCC notes that its registration may involve a non-refundable registration fee and a refundable security deposit whose amounts and refund conditions depend on the category and counselling choice. It directs candidates to the 2026 information bulletin and refund FAQs. Check the current amount, payment deadline, forfeiture rules and circumstances for refund before paying. Keep the transaction reference and bank proof. Do not include the counselling deposit when comparing annual college tuition, and do not assume that a deposit is refundable in every situation. (AACCC UG Counseling)
Separately obtain the institution’s dated fee circular for the exact course, quota and academic year. Ask which amounts are mandatory, which are refundable, what is payable at admission, and whether later-year amounts are fixed or subject to revision. Hostel and mess charges, university fees, examinations, deposits and tuition may appear in different documents. A fee displayed on a third-party listing is not proof of the amount due for an allotted seat.
5. Reporting, upgrades and withdrawal
After allotment, read the current reporting rules for the exact round and portal. Confirm the reporting location and deadline, documents to produce, payment channel, acceptance steps and consequences of not reporting. Rules for retaining a seat, opting for an upgrade, surrendering or withdrawing can differ by round and counselling authority. Never rely on an old counselling article to decide whether a candidate may retain a prior allotment after participating in another round. Use the latest official reporting and withdrawal notice, and contact the authority where the rule is unclear.
AACCC’s current page publishes round-specific results, reporting rules and notices as separate current events. That is a useful reminder that the counselling process is dynamic: an original bulletin is not the only document to monitor once a candidate participates. Check the official portal and notices frequently during an active round, and preserve screenshots or downloaded copies of important notices for the student’s records. (AACCC UG Counseling current events)
6. From BAMS study to professional registration
Admission begins a regulated course; it does not itself authorise clinical practice. NCISM’s examination regulations distinguish NEET UG admission from the later National Exit Test. The regulations describe the exit test as part of the practitioner-registration pathway after the compulsory one-year rotatory internship, with enrolment in the applicable register subject to the relevant conditions. Students should follow the rules applicable to their batch and current notices as they progress. This article is about admissions and does not give patient-care or treatment advice. (NCISM National Examination Regulations)
Candidate checklist
- Open the NEET UG bulletin and NCISM rules for the intended academic year.
- Identify the exact college, permitted intake, seat quota and counselling authority.
- Read the latest counselling information bulletin, schedule and seat matrix.
- Check candidate-specific eligibility and prepare documents in the required formats.
- Separate counselling fees/deposits from the college’s dated tuition and other charges.
- Track revised notices, allotment, reporting, upgrade and withdrawal rules through the official portal.
- Keep transaction receipts, choices, allotment letters and reporting confirmation.
For the 2026–27 AACCC stream, consult the official current bulletin and notice rather than carrying the process into a future cycle. NEET UG, counselling and college admission may recur each year, but schedules, seat availability and operational details must be checked afresh. (AACCC UG Counseling)
