There is no national BCA fee. The amount changes with the university, campus, public or private institution, regular or distance mode, programme variant, year and included charges. Compare the exact fee schedule for your intake, and keep tuition, one-time charges, refundable deposits, examination costs and living expenses separate. A single “BCA average fee” can hide different periods and components, so it is not a dependable amount to budget from.
Two official examples with different fee bases
IGNOU’s BCA_NEW page lists ₹8,300 per semester and shows ₹49,800 across all semesters. It separately states that examination fees are excluded and will be decided by the university. IGNOU’s May 2026 programme guide adds that registration and development fees may apply and that fees can change. Use these figures as an example of IGNOU's published ODL fee basis, not as a total-cost guarantee. Confirm the current admission-cycle notice, applicable fee schedule, re-registration charges and examination payments before calculating your own outlay.
Manipal University Jaipur’s BCA fee page lists Indian tuition at ₹1,77,000 annually, a one-time registration charge of ₹10,000 and a refundable caution deposit of ₹10,000. It shows ₹1,97,000 as the total at the time of admission. Multiplying the listed annual tuition by the three years shown on its course page gives a simple tuition-only scenario of ₹5,31,000 if the annual rate remains unchanged. That calculation excludes registration, deposit treatment, fee revisions, examination charges, hostel, food and transport. The page's initial-payment total is not the total cost of the three-year degree. Confirm whether each later year follows the same fee schedule and when the refundable deposit is returned.
These examples are not a directly comparable public-versus-private fee range. One is a distance programme quoting semester charges with examination fees excluded; the other is a campus programme showing annual tuition and first-admission charges. Their inclusion rules and study arrangements differ. Use them to understand how fee pages can present amounts, not to decide that one mode universally costs a fixed multiple of another.
Build your own total-cost estimate
Ask the institution for the complete fee schedule covering all years or semesters and the exact BCA track. Record the currency, payment period, fee revision rule and what each amount includes. Separate recurring tuition from admission, registration, university, laboratory, examination, student activity and technology charges. Identify refundable deposits and the process and timeline for claiming them. If the prospectus quotes “programme fee” but lists additional payments elsewhere, add them only when they apply to your cohort and record the source.
Living costs may be a substantial part of a campus decision. Estimate hostel or rent, food, utilities, transport, a laptop and internet, books, and travel home. Check whether hostel and mess charges are billed separately, whether accommodation is guaranteed and whether the quoted amount covers one month, semester or year. For an ODL route, account for the time and cost of exam travel, internet, learning equipment and any in-person practical requirements. Do not assume that a low tuition figure means a low total cost in every location or study format.
Scholarships, loans and payment timing
Check scholarships on the institution's official page and read eligibility, renewal, income proof, minimum marks, attendance, category conditions and payment timing. A scholarship may reduce tuition only, not hostel or examination charges, and it may be awarded after the initial payment. Ask whether a student must pay the full amount first and receive a later adjustment. Confirm what happens if a candidate withdraws or is not eligible after document verification.
A loan comparison should use the amount and dates actually due, including any margin, processing fees, interest during study, repayment start and co-borrower requirements. Avoid assuming the university's fee instalment schedule matches a lender's disbursement schedule. If a deposit is refundable, do not count it as a permanent discount; budget for paying it upfront and confirm the written refund rules.
Compare offers on the same basis
Use one row per programme and note: current fee year, campus and mode, degree or specialisation track, tuition per semester or year, one-time charges, examination fees, refundable deposit, hostel and mess, scholarship terms, payment deadlines and total estimated cost. If an institution does not publish the full schedule, ask the admissions office for a written amount for your cohort. Do not fill gaps with another college's fees or a blog's general BCA range.
When a fee changes by year, keep the official amounts as a sequence rather than averaging them. If a source gives only first-year charges, label them as first-year charges. If a page quotes a full-programme amount, check whether it includes exam fees and whether the number is current. A valid comparison needs a common period and inclusion basis. The same figure can be accurate for tuition and misleading as “total cost.”
Before accepting an offer, calculate the cash due before classes, the next payment date, and the amount that may be refundable. Add a contingency for fee revisions only if the institution's rules allow them; do not invent a revision percentage. This provides a more useful budget than a purported national BCA fee average.
