Identify the route before preparing an application
B.Ed. admission does not follow one national application calendar or one entrance test. The authority depends on the exact course: a regular graduate-entry B.Ed., a four-year integrated teacher-education programme after Class 12, a special-education B.Ed. or an open and distance learning programme may each use different portals and selection rules. Start by recording the institution and campus, programme title, academic session, mode, prior degree and teaching-subject category. Use the current official prospectus for that programme, not a general course page or a coaching-site schedule.
The NCTE norms leave the admission procedure to the policy of the relevant state, central authority, university or examining body. The current institution’s notice supplies the operational details: whether selection is based on an entrance exam, marks, merit list, counselling, category preference or a combination. A test used by one provider cannot be transferred to another merely because the award name is also B.Ed.
How different official routes illustrate the variation
The University of Delhi’s 2025–26 B.Ed. prospectus directed candidates to CUET (PG), with subject category and pedagogy choice linked to the test paper. The document also described a separate CSAS(PG) process for allocation. This is a historical DU example: it establishes the route used in that stated session, not the paper, deadline or process for every institution or for the next cycle. CIE’s admissions page now links a 2026–27 B.Ed. e-prospectus and current B.Ed. notices, but the linked Drive prospectus could not be read in this source pass. Applicants should open the current DU notice themselves and confirm the paper code and allocation instructions before applying.
IGNOU’s January 2026 notice described its own online application and entrance test for its ODL B.Ed. programme. That session is closed; its date should not be reused. NCTE’s NCET 2026 information, in contrast, is specifically about entry to four-year ITEP. It is not the standard exam for all B.Ed. courses. The relevant sources are the DU prospectus, current CIE admissions page, IGNOU notice and NCTE NCET page.
Read eligibility, subject choice and the test together
Before registering, compare your prior degree and marks with both the general eligibility clause and each course-specific requirement. Some programmes require particular subjects or a minimum number of credits in a pedagogy area. A candidate may be allowed to apply only to a pedagogy category supported by the transcript; in the cited DU prospectus, the selected category shaped the CUET paper and later allocation. Do not select a subject based only on the exam syllabus or assume that a preferred teaching subject can be changed after submission.
The exam route itself may have multiple components. DU’s 2025–26 document described a subject-category test and paper structure for that cycle. Since test design can change, use the NTA’s bulletin and the university’s current programme bulletin rather than a copied past-paper breakdown. Where an institution uses qualifying-degree merit rather than an entrance exam, prepare the required transcripts and category proof; where it uses a test, confirm registration at both the exam body and institution if both are required. A national score is not automatically a completed university application.
A careful application sequence
-
Open the regulator or university’s current prospectus for the exact campus and session. Check that the programme title, mode and intake match the course you intend to study.
-
Match every eligibility condition to your documents. Check degree type, aggregate calculation, subject credits, category concession, equivalence and whether final-year applicants may appear. Ask the admission office in writing if your transcript or degree title is unusual.
-
Identify the current test and subject paper, if applicable. Confirm the official test body, paper code, application form, language, marking rules, dates and city-selection procedure. Do not assume a past paper code remains valid.
-
Complete each required portal step. A national exam form and the university’s own allocation form may be separate. Save submitted forms, fee receipts and correction-window notices. Follow the institution’s counselling schedule and preference rules.
-
Prepare original certificates, mark sheets, category or disability documentation, identity proof and any employment or study-leave documents required by that prospectus. Keep originals and readable scans available.
-
After an allocation, complete document verification, acceptance and payment by the stated deadline. A score or provisional list is not itself admission; the institution confirms eligibility and the seat only after its official checks.
Keep admission tests separate from recruitment tests
CUET (PG), an institutional B.Ed. entrance examination or NCET is an admissions mechanism for a named programme and cycle. CTET and state Teacher Eligibility Tests address eligibility for certain school-teaching recruitment contexts after or alongside professional preparation. They are not substitutes for a B.Ed. admission test. Likewise, passing a TET does not replace an employer’s degree-subject, professional qualification, age, experience, category or selection requirements. CTET says that being allowed to appear does not itself mean that eligibility has been verified or provide a right to appointment. The recruitment authority makes the final determination against the applicable rules.
For candidates considering primary-school roles, review the specific legal qualification list. The Supreme Court’s 2023 judgment addressed B.Ed. for Classes I–V under the notification before the Court. Do not infer that a general B.Ed. automatically qualifies a person for every grade. Read the current recruitment notice and rules for the school system and post you want.
What to verify when details are missing
If a college page says only “admission through entrance” without naming the test or session, do not guess from a national exam directory. Ask the institution which test, paper, session and portal apply, whether the subject choice is fixed, which degree combinations qualify, and whether the fee covers one application or the course. Verify recognition for the exact programme and campus as well. NCTE’s regulator list and the university’s affiliation record help establish course status; a prospectus or official notice establishes current admission mechanics.
Avoid third-party pages that combine a past-year schedule with a current banner. A notice dated 2025 may accurately document what happened in 2025 while being wrong for 2026. For a future intake not yet announced, keep the route unknown and revisit the official page when the authority publishes its notice. There are no dependable 2027–28 dates in this packet, so this guide gives no future deadline.
