B.Sc. Agriculture eligibility: check your exact subject combination and route
There is no single marks-and-subject rule that can be applied to every B.Sc. Agriculture seat in India. Eligibility depends on the degree title, institution, academic year, entrance route, quota, candidate category and sometimes domicile, age or prior-board equivalence. Read the prospectus for the programme you will actually select, and check later corrigenda before applying. A rule printed for one university or for ICAR’s past seat appendix should not be treated as a nationwide minimum.
Start with the school qualification and named subjects
Many programmes require a completed or appearing 10+2 or equivalent qualification, but accepted subjects vary. Biology, mathematics, agriculture or particular science combinations may be accepted in different combinations by different institutions. Ask whether the subjects must have been studied together, whether practical components are required, how an equivalent or open-school qualification is assessed, and whether English is required. Do not assume that Physics-Chemistry-Biology (PCB) is mandatory everywhere or that mathematics or agriculture subjects are universally accepted.
The ICAR CUET (ICAR-UG)-2026 bulletin’s university annexure lists subject combinations and conditions for 2025-26 as guidance, while stating final 2026-27 university subject eligibilities were still pending. That appendix itself shows variation. Assam Agricultural University’s own 2026-27 bulletin accepts PCB, Physics-Chemistry-Agriculture (PCAg) or Biology-Chemistry-Agriculture (BCAg) for its B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture programme. VIT’s 2026 page instead specifies an overall qualifying-exam aggregate and a separate PCB aggregate for its own programme. These examples cannot be blended into a universal rule. ICAR bulletin, AAU bulletin, VIT eligibility.
Marks thresholds and category relaxations are not interchangeable
Find the exact threshold and how it is calculated. The prospectus may distinguish overall aggregate from aggregate in specified subjects, require a pass in every subject, define how grades are converted, or restrict the examination attempts it accepts. Category relaxations may apply only to listed categories or seats and may require certificates in a prescribed format by a stated date. A state list and the relevant central list may not be interchangeable for an all-India quota. Confirm whether a relaxation affects eligibility, ranking, reservation or fee category; these are separate questions.
For instance, AAU’s 2026-27 information bulletin describes minimum aggregate marks of 50% for General/OBC/UPS and 40% for SC/ST/DAC for the listed programme group, subject to its exact terms. VIT’s 2026 programme page specifies 60% overall and 60% in PCB, with a stated 10% relaxation for its named SC/ST or specified regional candidates. These policies belong to those institutions and cycles. They do not establish a national threshold, and a candidate should read the actual certificate and domicile clauses rather than rely on a summary. AAU 2026-27 bulletin, VIT 2026 eligibility.
Age, residency and special-seat conditions
Age limits can vary, can be measured on a specified date and can include category-based changes. Domicile or permanent-residence requirements may apply to state seats, local quotas, sponsored candidates or particular routes, while another route may be open to applicants from across India. Institutions may also define conditions for NRI, international, defence, employee, nominee or in-service categories. Do not infer that a candidate qualifies for a seat merely because they meet the general 10+2 requirement.
AAU’s 2026-27 bulletin sets its own minimum age date and describes domicile and other candidate groups for its entrance route. The ICAR information bulletin maintains route-specific rules and category documentation. A state prospectus can introduce a separate local process: Kerala Agricultural University’s 2026 portal publishes an agriculture prospectus and KEAM route materials separately from ICAR-related notices. For any special category, read the exact section, definition, issuing authority, document format and submission deadline in the current notice. AAU bulletin, ICAR bulletin, KAU admission portal.
Eligibility is different from selection and allotment
Eligibility lets an applicant enter a process; it does not promise a rank, counselling invitation, seat, scholarship or admission. Selection can depend on examination scores, board marks, category rank, preference order, quota, available seats, document verification and the institution’s tie-breaking rules. A programme may have different eligibility conditions for ICAR quota, state quota, management or institutional seats. A candidate should verify the correct stream and seat pool before selecting a course code.
For ICAR 2026-27, the bulletin ties ICAR allocation to CUET (ICAR-UG) merit and later counselling; it also describes an ICAR share of seats and specific institutions where coverage differs. It separately notes that universities may choose to use NTA scores for their own UG admission. This distinction matters: a university may have a state process alongside ICAR counselling, with separate applications and eligibility. Check whether you must register with both NTA and the university, and whether qualifying one process is enough for the seat you want. ICAR 2026-27 bulletin.
Make a personal eligibility checklist
Before paying an application fee, record your board and qualification, subjects and practicals, final or predicted marks, category, domicile, age on the specified date and the seat route. Match each item to a paragraph in the latest official prospectus. Ask the admission office in writing about equivalence, subject substitutions, pending results, improvement attempts, grade conversion and whether a certificate must be valid on the application date or at counselling. Save the reply with the prospectus and any corrigendum.
If an official source conflicts with an older brochure, use the current notice or obtain written clarification. Do not rely on an aggregator’s general statement that “science students are eligible” if the official programme list requires a named subject combination. Because eligibility changes with year and route, this evergreen guide uses 2026-27 examples as illustrations only; check the admissions rules for your intake and campus. The institution’s current written rule controls your application.
