Admission route depends on the institution
BSc Chemistry admissions may use qualifying-exam marks, an entrance examination, a central or state application system, or a combination of these. The university’s current prospectus identifies the controlling route. First verify the exact award and campus, since an affiliated college may teach the course while the university sets eligibility, merit and examinations. A course directory’s “admission process” summary is not a substitute for the current notice.
Delhi University’s 2026–27 FAQ provides a named example: applicants must follow the CUET subject mapping for the programme and complete the CSAS process. Those steps should not be generalized to other universities. For each alternative on your shortlist, identify its own entrance test or merit calculation, portal, counselling method, application deadlines and payment conditions.
A reliable application sequence
- Open the official programme listing and download the prospectus or admission bulletin for your intended year.
- Match your Class XII subjects and marks to the stated eligibility calculation before registering for any required test.
- Record the form deadline, test dates, correction window and result or counselling schedule from the official calendar.
- Submit the application using the exact programme and campus code. Save the confirmation, fee receipt and a copy of each selected subject.
- Monitor the official portal for merit lists, counselling calls, document verification and seat-acceptance instructions.
- Before paying an admission deposit, confirm the fee schedule, refund rule and reporting date in writing.
These are process safeguards, not a claim that every provider uses the same stages. Some institutions publish a merit list directly; others require candidates to rank colleges, attend counselling or accept an offer within a short window.
Keep DU instructions within their cycle
For Delhi University 2026–27, the published undergraduate FAQ links programme eligibility to required subjects in CUET and the university’s CSAS application. Read the programme-specific bulletin for exact paper combinations and later stages. Applicants should not infer the process for another university from this example, and should not rely on a previous admission year’s subject mapping when registering for a new cycle.
Elsewhere, establish whether a central exam score is mandatory, whether a separate college form is needed, and whether a state reservation or domicile rule applies. Check the responsible institution’s current notice for counselling order, document verification and payment. If an entrance-test portal and a university portal both appear in the process, make a checklist of separate registrations and fees; completing one does not necessarily complete the other.
Documents and common contingencies
Prepare Class X and XII marksheets or equivalent records, proof of identity, date-of-birth evidence, photographs and any category, disability, domicile or equivalence documents requested by the exact notice. The list varies, so follow the portal checklist rather than assuming this set is exhaustive. Ensure names and dates match across records; ask how to correct discrepancies before verification.
If final results are pending, find the rule for provisional candidates and the last date for uploading marks. If a portal shows an error, preserve the application number and timestamp and contact the published helpdesk before the deadline. Do not make duplicate applications or payments unless the institution instructs you to do so. Keep copies of submitted forms and all official responses until enrolment is complete.
