Start with the exact programme and intake
B.Sc. Microbiology eligibility is set by the admitting university. A broad catalogue label cannot tell you whether a programme requires Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Mathematics or a particular combination in Class XII. It also cannot resolve minimum marks, category relaxations, board equivalence, age rules or final-year conditions. Check the official prospectus for the campus and admission year you will apply to, then compare the exact rule with your own marksheet.
Delhi University’s 2026–27 Undergraduate Bulletin gives programme-specific eligibility and CUET subject combinations for its B.Sc. (Hons.) Microbiology programme. That is useful for applicants considering DU, but it is not a general rule for every B.Sc. Microbiology course. (DU 2026–27 Bulletin)
Start by noting the award title and university, not just the course keyword. Confirm whether you are applying to a general B.Sc., an honours programme or a four-year format. Institutions can have separate eligibility statements for each option even when the subject name is similar. If a college is affiliated, check both the university’s central rules and any college-specific admission instructions.
Check required school subjects carefully
Make a small table with one column for each university and rows for required subjects, acceptable alternatives, minimum marks and the CUET or entrance papers. Do not infer that studying Physics, Chemistry and Biology automatically satisfies an online test combination; the admission notice may require a specific set of CUET subjects and may restrict candidates to papers they studied in Class XII.
DU’s 2026 UG admissions FAQ explicitly tells applicants that CUET papers must be those in which they passed Class XII examinations and directs them to the Bulletin for programme-specific eligibility. The FAQ belongs to DU’s 2026–27 cycle. (DU admissions FAQ) If another university’s prospectus differs, follow that institution’s current notice. Keep a saved copy of the relevant page or PDF and record its publication date, since a search snippet or old coaching summary may omit a subject substitution or updated rule.
Read marks, categories and equivalence language
A minimum percentage may refer to the qualifying examination aggregate, specified subjects or a conversion from grades. Read whether the university uses all subjects, best-of subjects, a Biology/Chemistry combination or a board-prescribed conversion. Check if a category relaxation is stated and which document proves eligibility for it. Do not calculate a threshold from a prior cycle if the current notice has changed the subjects or formula.
If your board uses grades, a different name for a subject or an equivalent qualification, ask the admissions office how it will be assessed. Get a written clarification before a deadline if the prospectus is ambiguous. Do not assume a school subject with a similar title is accepted as equivalent, or that an entrance-paper choice can replace a missing school qualification.
Final-year applicants and document checks
Confirm whether students awaiting final results can apply provisionally, what proof must be submitted and the last date by which all examinations and practicals must be complete. A provisional application does not guarantee final admission if the result, marks or documents later fail the stated condition. Check whether the university requires original certificates at counselling, and whether digitally issued documents are accepted.
Prepare the Class XII marksheet, transfer or migration records where required, identity proof, category certificate if applicable, CUET scorecard, application form and payment confirmation. Names, dates of birth and subject labels should match across the records. If they do not, contact the institution about correction procedures rather than waiting until verification. Keep the confirmation of every uploaded document and track any portal status change.
Eligibility is not admission or career licensing
Meeting the minimum academic requirement only allows an application to be considered. Merit ranking, entrance scores, seat availability, counselling preferences and document verification may determine the offer. Read those stages separately from the eligibility paragraph. Likewise, admission to an undergraduate microbiology degree does not by itself certify eligibility for clinical laboratory reporting, regulated practice or a specialised job. Employers and regulators define those requirements separately.
For an application in a future cycle, do not carry forward DU’s 2026–27 CUET combination or any previous year’s cutoff as a guaranteed rule. No 2027–28 admission notice was verified for this guide. Check the current official bulletin and contact the admissions office if your subject combination is unusual. Save the answer with the cycle and programme title so that you can apply the correct version when submitting the form.
