LLB fees: compare the period and every included charge
There is no defensible single “LLB fee” for this catalogue course. Universities set different tuition, facilities, admission, examination, hostel, mess and deposit charges, and may state prices per year, semester or entire programme. The current catalogue's ₹18,000–₹25,000 fee fields are aggregate values associated with two linked colleges; their period and item basis are not established in the source record. They are not used here as an annual tuition quote or a three-year total. For planning, use only a dated official schedule for the exact campus and category, then compare like with like. Never multiply or annualise an amount unless its period is explicit.
A dated example: NLSIU 2026-27
NLSIU's programme page lists ₹3,18,200 in tuition and facilities plus ₹1,88,200 for off-campus housing, giving ₹5,06,400 for the first year when housing is included in the 2026-27 table. It describes the figures as per annum. It separately lists a one-time admission fee of ₹13,900 and refundable security deposit of ₹18,800 for SC/ST students or ₹23,700 for other students. The university says only students assigned housing pay the housing fee; the housing amount includes meals. These amounts are a dated NLSIU example only. They do not establish the cost of all three years, and the refundable deposit is not tuition. Check the current notice, housing allocation and fee schedule before making a budget. (NLSIU fees)
A second institution's schedule is not directly comparable
NLU Odisha's official LL.B. page lists admission/re-admission, tuition, facilities, hostel accommodation, a total and a one-time refundable deposit; it also says monthly mess charges are separate. The page's table does not clearly state the period of each recurring amount in the excerpt used here, so this guide does not label the total annual or full-programme cost. Its currency and category structure also differ from NLSIU's. Before comparing, ask NLUO or another institution for a written schedule with academic year, number of payments, category, hostel status, mess, examination charges and refund rules. A fee component may be mandatory, optional or payable to another body, so totals should not be combined until their basis is clear. (NLUO fee schedule)
Build a complete three-year budget
For a graduate-entry programme, make a year-by-year worksheet rather than copying a headline. Include tuition and facilities charges, university admission or registration fees, examination charges, hostel and meals if applicable, refundable deposits, books and materials, travel, technology, relocation, and lost income if the schedule is full-time. Mark which items recur, which are one-time, which are refundable and which depend on room allocation. Ask whether the institution can revise fees for later years and whether the offer letter caps increases. Keep the application and entrance-test fee separate from tuition. If the official schedule gives only first-year cost, do not multiply it by three unless the university confirms later-year rates. This avoids treating an estimate as a contract.
Scholarships, financial aid and payment terms
Financial support differs by university and applicant. Ask whether aid is need-based, merit-based, government-sponsored or externally funded; whether it covers tuition, accommodation or both; what documents are required; and whether renewal depends on attendance or academic progress. NLSIU describes university, external and third-party financial-aid channels for its students, but that does not establish eligibility or award size for a different institution. Confirm deadlines, disbursement timing, interest and repayment for loans, and whether a scholarship can be combined with a category benefit. Read refund and withdrawal rules before paying a deposit. Do not rely on an agent's claim that aid is guaranteed or that a seat will be held without a published receipt.
Fee questions to resolve before accepting
Request a written answer to these points: What academic year does this schedule cover? Is each amount per semester, per year or for the whole degree? Which charges are compulsory? Is hostel placement guaranteed or separately allocated? Are meals included? What deposit is refundable and on what date? Are examination, library, insurance or alumni charges additional? Can tuition change in later years? What happens if a student withdraws, fails to submit a final degree or loses eligibility? Ask for the policy document, not just a verbal estimate. Compare the total payable to the amount in the offer letter and retain every receipt. If a page gives a subtotal that excludes mess or travel, show those exclusions next to the number instead of presenting it as an all-in cost.
Why this page does not state a national average
A small set of linked colleges and unlabelled aggregate fee figures cannot establish an annual national LLB price. The three-year route itself varies by public/private status, campus, housing and fee schedule. More importantly, a single amount with no source year or period could mislead applicants into budgeting too little or comparing different fee bases. This article therefore uses official institution examples with their dates and limitations, while leaving the course-wide scalar unresolved. Recheck the current university schedule at application and admission; archived fee tables are useful for historical comparison only. A course aggregator should not turn an unknown unit into a fabricated annual or programme total.
