First identify the correct route
There is no single M.Com. admission examination or application calendar for India. Universities publish their own entry route, and the process may depend on academic year, programme duration, mode and applicant category. A typical sequence is to confirm the exact programme and eligibility, register for any required entrance examination, submit a separate university application, select the programme or preferences, complete document checks and pay the fee only after an offer or allocation. Each stage has its own deadline and omission can invalidate an otherwise eligible application.
CUET(PG) is one route, not the national M.Com. admission rule
The University of Delhi’s 2026-27 two-year PG process illustrates a CUET-based route. Its official CSAS(PG) 2026 bulletin says all two-year PG admissions in that cycle were based on CUET(PG) 2026 and that candidates also had to apply through CSAS(PG). The bulletin states that NTA’s role was conducting the examination, declaring results and handling exam queries; appearing for CUET(PG) alone was insufficient for admission. Applicants also needed to meet programme eligibility and use the university’s allocation system. Registration was a separate step with its own schedule.
This example is explicitly limited to Delhi University’s two-year 2026-27 intake. The University announced separate one-year and two-year master’s processes, so the two-year CUET/CSAS process must not be projected onto its one-year pathway without checking that pathway’s own bulletin. Other institutions can use CUET(PG), their own entrance test, academic merit or another authorised process. Verify the exact programme and test-paper mapping for the application year.
Application steps that prevent avoidable errors
- Read the current programme notice. Confirm the award, one- or two-year structure, campus or study mode, qualifying degree and minimum marks. A general prospectus may link to a more specific department document or corrigendum.
- Register for the examination if required. Use the official testing authority portal, select the paper named for the programme, and check the current information bulletin for exam format, dates, identification rules and correction windows. A registration receipt is not a university application.
- Apply through the institution’s own portal. Enter degree, subject, marks and category information exactly as documents show them. At Delhi University, the 2026-27 two-year route required CSAS(PG) registration in addition to CUET(PG).
- Complete programme preferences or choices. Where a seat-allocation system asks for programme/college preferences, list only options you would accept and check the order before locking it. The choice rules, edit window and upgrade/freeze steps are cycle-specific.
- Monitor official notices and email. A test result, merit position or provisional offer is not a final admission by itself. Check for document verification, fee-payment windows, category certificates and any physical-verification requirement.
- Keep evidence of each step. Save the submitted form, payment receipt, test application, preference list, scorecard and final admission confirmation. Use the admissions office’s grievance channel promptly if data or allocation appears incorrect.
Selection and seat allocation
Selection can combine test score, programme-specific eligibility, category rules, preferences, seat availability and document verification. A high test score cannot cure an ineligible subject combination, and a qualifying score is not a guaranteed offer. In a centralised allocation process, applicants may need to rank programmes and respond within a specified window. Institutions may publish later rounds, upgrade choices or spot admissions, but none should be presumed until officially announced. Avoid relying on coaching-site predictions or a past year’s cutoff as a promise for the next intake.
For applicants to a non-CUET institution, the same careful separation applies: identify whether selection uses an entrance test, marks, interview or direct eligibility; read how marks are weighted; learn whether the university or an affiliated college handles the application; and confirm when an offer becomes binding. For ODL programmes, the application may be tied to an admission session such as January or July, with a separate prospectus and portal. The application and admission windows can change, so use the latest notice for the current session.
Dates and transition years
Do not use an old calendar as a current deadline. Delhi’s two-year PG registration dates in May and June 2026 are historical examples for that intake, not open application dates. Likewise, an earlier CUET paper code or M.Com. duration may belong to a previous syllabus or cohort. Search the university’s admission page for the exact academic session, then confirm that any department notice is consistent with the central prospectus and later corrigenda. If two official pages differ, seek written clarification from the admissions authority responsible for the programme.
Before submission, make a small tracker with the exam-registration deadline, university-form deadline, programme preference window, document upload requirements, allocation/offer response date and fee-payment deadline. Check time zone and whether the portal closes at the start or end of the listed date. A reminder calendar is useful, but the authoritative source remains the current official notice.
Prepare documents before the portal opens
Many application errors arise from inconsistent information rather than a difficult examination. Keep a digital copy of the degree certificate or provisional certificate, semester-wise marksheets, category certificate in the prescribed format, identity documents, photograph and signature. If the final result is awaited, check the prospectus for a permitted provisional status and the date by which the final marksheet must be uploaded. If a name differs across documents, learn the institution’s correction procedure before the deadline. Do not upload a self-made grade conversion when the university requires its own method.
If a test route applies, use the official NTA CUET(PG) portal and the applicable year’s bulletin to verify the paper name/code and exam requirements. The university’s programme mapping is a separate source: a subject that sounds similar is not proof that it is accepted for M.Com. Keep both the test notice and the university bulletin. For the University of Delhi’s 2026-27 two-year process, the official CSAS document stated that CUET(PG) results alone were insufficient and candidates needed to apply through CSAS(PG) as well. This historical example illustrates why a candidate should maintain two separate completion checks.
After an allocation or offer
Read the offer conditions, not only the programme name. Check whether it is provisional, the assigned college or department, the fee amount and deadline, original-document verification, and the consequence of accepting, freezing or upgrading a seat. A payment receipt proves payment, not that every eligibility document has been accepted. Download the final confirmation and check that it identifies the correct programme variant and session. If you withdraw, use the stated cancellation process and preserve the acknowledgement for any refund claim.
For a direct or merit-based route, confirm what makes an application complete and when the university publishes the merit list or decision. For ODL, note the session start, study-material access, learner-support arrangements, assignment calendar and exam registration dates. These timelines may not match a regular campus calendar. In every mode, rely on the official portal for live schedules; dated pages in this guide are context, and do not treat them as a current invitation to apply.
