The login link went live on 26 April 2026, and within hours, servers groaned under the weight of over 22 lakh aspirants refreshing their browsers. The NEET admit card is not just a PDF. It is your only entry pass to a three-hour exam that shapes medical careers. No admit card, no exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has said this in plain terms every year, and 2026 was no different. Then came the cancellation of the original 3 May 2026 test, the re-scheduling to 21 June 2026, and a fresh admit card released on 14 June 2026. If you are preparing for NEET UG, understanding the admit card process - for both the original and the re-exam - gives you a template for any year.
One shift. One date. One chance.
The NTA does not stagger NEET UG across multiple days. In 2026, the first exam was scheduled for 3 May 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in pen-and-paper mode across 13 languages. The city intimation slip came first on 12 April 2026, and the full hall ticket opened for download on 26 April 2026. After the paper leak controversy, the exam was cancelled and a re-exam was set for 21 June 2026, with a new admit card released on 14 June 2026.

If you appeared in 2026, your result and further processes reference the same roll number printed on your admit card. Keep the PDF safe. You will need it during counselling.
NTA never posts admit cards. Every candidate must download the document from neet.nta.nic.in using login credentials created at the time of application.
Servers slow down because lakhs of candidates are trying the same thing at once. Instead of refreshing obsessively, try during off-peak hours - late night or early morning works best - or switch to a different browser. If the issue persists, clear your browser cache and attempt again in incognito mode.
If you lost your application number, use the “Forgot Application Number” option on the login page. The system will send it to your registered mobile or email. If the password is forgotten, reset it via OTP or the email link. For candidates without internet access, Common Services Centres (CSCs) across India can help download and print the admit card for a nominal fee (₹10-₹30). NTA also makes the admit card available on DigiLocker and the Sandes app.
Do not just glance at the centre address and move on. A misspelled name or a wrong category code can cause problems at the gate - and later during document verification for admission.
The hall ticket carries these details:
NTA confirmed that 99.2% of candidates received their first-choice city through the city intimation slip. The admit card finalises the exact school or college within that city. If your centre is far from home, plan the route now. Visit the location a day before the exam if possible.
The city intimation slip is released about 10-15 days before the exam. It tells you only the city where your centre is located - no address, no roll number, no exam instructions. It is for travel planning only, not for entry. The admit card, released 3-5 days before the exam, contains everything you need: roll number, centre address, reporting time, and exam day rules. Only the admit card gets you inside the hall.
NTA has not relaxed its security protocol. Every year, candidates are turned away - or face delays - because they ignored the dress code or carried a prohibited item out of habit.
NTA explicitly bans these inside the exam hall:
NTA recommends light-coloured, half-sleeved clothes. Slippers or low-heeled sandals are allowed. Avoid shoes with thick soles and garments with large buttons, zippers, or multiple pockets. These rules speed up frisking. A candidate in a simple cotton kurta and chappals will pass through security faster than someone in a hoodie and jeans.
Candidates wearing customary or religious attire must have selected the “customary dress” option during application. They must report at least an hour before the last reporting time (by 12:30 pm) to allow extra time for private, respectful frisking.
For the 3 May 2026 exam, NTA established a reporting window from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. Gates closed sharply at 1:30 pm, after which no candidate was allowed entry - zero exceptions. The same timeline was expected for the re-exam on 21 June 2026 with slight variations: reporting by 12:30 pm, gate closure at 1:30 pm, exam start 2:00 pm, and finish at 5:15 pm.
Arriving 60 to 90 minutes early is practical advice, not a suggestion. Traffic, last-minute delays, or a forgotten document are not grounds for entry after the gate closes.
The correction window for NEET 2026 closed on 14 March 2026, long before the admit card was released. So if you find a mistake after downloading the hall ticket in late April, or the re-exam admit card in June, you cannot edit it through the portal. But you are not helpless.
Step 1: Note the error and keep a screenshot or printout of the admit card showing the mistake.
Step 2: Contact NTA immediately through its official channels:
In the email, include:
Step 3: Do not wait for a replacement admit card. NTA generally does not issue a revised hall ticket after corrections are noted. Instead, the agency updates its back-end records, and the correction is considered during counselling. You must still appear for the exam with the original admit card you downloaded - even if it carries the error. Entry is typically allowed if the discrepancy is minor and your ID proof matches what the system should have shown.
Step 4: Reach the exam centre early. Carry extra passport-size photographs and multiple copies of the admit card. At the centre, explain the situation to the exam authorities and show any email acknowledgement from NTA if you have it. The centre superintendent can manually verify your identity and allow you to sit for the exam on an undertaking basis.
NTA has a transparent policy for disputed questions, which becomes relevant once the answer key is released after the exam. Knowing these rules helps reduce post-exam anxiety.
The marking scheme remains +4 for each correct answer and -1 for each wrong answer. Unanswered questions yield zero. Use a ballpoint pen provided by the invigilator to darken the OMR bubbles completely; never use pencil, whitener, or overwrite.
Tossing the admit card into a drawer and forgetting about it is a mistake. This document stays relevant through multiple stages:
Make at least three photocopies now. Keep one at home, carry one to counselling, and store a scanned copy in your email or cloud drive.
The NEET UG 2026 original exam was to be held across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, at over 5,432 centres, for approximately 22.79 lakh registered candidates. More than 2 lakh personnel - including 674 city coordinators, over 6,000 observers, and centre superintendents - were deployed. The re-exam on 21 June 2026 maintained similar scale. Security included end-to-end GPS tracking of question papers, CCTVs linked to control rooms, Aadhaar-based biometric authentication, and mandatory frisking with high-sensitivity metal detectors. NTA also blocked over 65 Telegram channels for spreading fake paper leaks and filed cyber-crime complaints.
Where can I download the NEET 2026 admit card? Only from the official NTA NEET website: neet.nta.nic.in. No third-party site has access to hall tickets.
What login credentials are required? Your application number and either your password or date of birth, plus the security captcha shown on screen.
Will NTA send the admit card by post? No. The hall ticket is issued online only. Hard copies are never dispatched.
Is a colour printout mandatory? Colour is not strictly required, but the photograph and signature must be clearly visible. If black-and-white prints make these details fuzzy, use a colour printer.
What if I forget to carry the admit card to the exam centre? You will not be allowed entry. No duplicate admit card is issued at the centre under any circumstances.
Can I show the admit card on my phone? No. Only a physical printed copy is accepted at the centre gate.
I found an error in my name - can I still sit for the exam? Yes, in most cases. Report the error to NTA immediately via helpline and email. Carry your correct ID proof to the centre and explain the discrepancy. The exam authorities will verify you manually, and NTA will update its records separately for future counselling stages.
What if the QR code or barcode on my admit card is not scanning? Try downloading the PDF again using a different browser or device. Sometimes corrupted downloads cause this issue. If it persists, contact NTA. This is usually a technical glitch and does not block entry.
Can I change my exam centre after the admit card is issued? No. Exam centre allocation is final once the hall ticket is released. The city intimation slip gave prior notice, and no requests for centre changes are entertained.
Is a signature required on the admit card? The admit card carries the digital signature you uploaded during application. At the exam centre, you will sign the attendance sheet twice and give your thumb impression. Do not sign directly on the admit card unless instructed by the invigilator.
How long should I keep the admit card? At least until the admission process is complete in your allotted medical college, which could be several months after results. A scanned copy remains useful even after that.
What is the reporting time and gate closing time for NEET 2026? The gates opened at 11:00 am, and the last entry was at 1:30 pm for the original exam. Similar timings were expected for the re-exam. Arrive at least 60-90 minutes early to complete frisking and biometric verification.
What happens if biometric verification fails? If fingerprint or face authentication cannot be completed due to technical issues or poor quality, candidates are not denied entry. They must sign an undertaking (available at the centre) and manual identity verification is done using documents.
Can I use my own pen in the exam hall? No. NTA provides a ballpoint pen at the centre. You must use only that pen for marking the OMR sheet.
What are the key exam pattern details for NEET 2026? The exam had 180 compulsory multiple-choice questions: 45 each in Physics and Chemistry, 90 in Biology (Botany + Zoology), totalling 720 marks. Duration was 3 hours (or 3 hours 20 minutes for the re-exam). Marking: +4 correct, -1 incorrect, 0 unanswered.
What languages was NEET 2026 conducted in? 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Are PwBD candidates eligible for extra time? Yes, candidates with benchmark disability (≥40%) receive one additional hour, regardless of scribe usage. They must carry valid PwBD certificate.
Can I bring a water bottle inside? Only a transparent water bottle is allowed. No labels, no opaque bottles.
What about the city intimation slip? It is released about 10-15 days before the exam to inform candidates of their exam city for travel planning. It is not a substitute for the admit card and cannot be used for entry.
