Research / JEE Main model card

Published 3 September 2026 · Model jee-main-2026-nta-count-heuristic-v1

JEE Main 2026 percentile to rank model card

The Admission Guardian JEE Main rank model converts a final Paper 1 Total NTA Score percentile into a broad CRL planning interval. It is a low-confidence population heuristic, not an official NTA percentile-to-rank conversion.

Download model card JSON

Use it for historical orientation, not counselling decisions

Use the official CRL and category rank on the final scorecard for JoSAA, CSAB and college matching. This model does not calculate a category rank, eligibility or admission probability.

Official inputs used

The model uses candidate counts in NTA's final JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 result notice. No third-party marks-versus-rank table is used.

Session 1 appeared
13,04,653
Session 2 appeared
10,34,330
Appeared in both sessions
8,00,516
Official unique appeared
15,38,468
Candidates at 100 percentile
26

Session 1 + Session 2 - common appeared equals 15,38,467, one below NTA's official unique-appeared figure. The model retains the official 15,38,468 total and discloses the difference.

Calculation method

  1. 1. Estimate the share above the percentile

    Population share above = (100 - percentile) / 100.

  2. 2. Apply the share to published populations

The model calculates candidates above the input in each session, in the overlap-adjusted population and in the official unique population.

  3. 3. Return a broad interval

The lower numerical estimate takes the largest of the two session-level counts, the inclusion-exclusion estimate and the 26-person perfect-percentile floor. The upper numerical estimate allows the session counts to add while retaining the same floor. A simple official-cohort position is shown as a baseline. Neither end is a guaranteed CRL bound.

  4. 4. Preserve the 100-percentile tie band

NTA reported 26 candidates at 100 percentile. The model therefore returns 1-26 and does not claim that every 100-percentile candidate has CRL 1.

Example 2026 model outputs

These are deterministic outputs from model version jee-main-2026-nta-count-heuristic-v1. They are not observed official ranks.

Why the confidence is low

  • NTA calculates Total NTA Score percentile separately within each shift.
  • The final score can use the better Total NTA Score across two sessions.
  • Subject percentiles and response-based tie-breakers affect the official rank order.
  • NTA has not published a complete mapping from every final percentile to final CRL.
  • A population calculation cannot reproduce candidate-level shift and tie data.

Questions about the model

Is this an official JEE Main percentile-to-rank table?

No. NTA does not publish a complete 2026 percentile-to-CRL table. This is a deliberately broad, low-confidence planning heuristic built from NTA-published candidate counts.

Which percentile should I enter?

Use the final Paper 1 Total NTA Score percentile from the final scorecard. Do not enter raw marks, percentage, a subject percentile or a Session 1-only score when a final best-of-two score is available.

Why is the rank estimate a range?

NTA calculates percentiles within shifts, combines best-of-two results and applies tie-breakers. Published session totals cannot identify one exact CRL for a percentile, so a single-number claim would imply false precision.

Does the model predict category rank?

No. It estimates a broad Common Rank List planning range only. It does not estimate category rank, eligibility or admission chances.

Can I use the estimate for JoSAA or CSAB choices?

No. Use it only to understand the broad scale of the 2026 percentile-to-rank relationship. Use the official CRL and category details from the scorecard for JoSAA, CSAB and college matching.
