Separate billed charges from the full study budget
A Purdue budget includes more than tuition. The Bursar’s published rate tables distinguish tuition and required fees billed by the University from estimates for housing and food, books and supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. The amount varies with campus, residency classification, college or programme, credit load and any additional course or program charges. This matters when an international student compares offers: a tuition figure alone is not a full attendance budget, while an overall estimate may include living costs that are not all invoiced by the Bursar.
For an initial plan, identify the exact campus and intended major, use the current academic-year table, and separate fixed billed charges from living-cost estimates. Then add costs that depend on personal choices, such as travel to India, health insurance, visa-related expenses, housing selection and personal spending, where they are not already included. Purdue notes that individual programs may have additional fees and directs students to review the table carefully. Do not add a separate fee twice if it already appears in the published total.
The figures below are for the published 2026-27 academic year and should be treated as a dated planning reference, not a quote for 2027-28 or a student-specific invoice. Purdue’s Cost and Financial Aid page links students to current tuition, scholarship, financial-aid and planning resources.
Use 2026-27 rates only for that academic year
Purdue’s 2026-27 Bursar table lists an estimated academic-year total of USD 56,748 for international undergraduates in its Computer Science, Data Science and Engineering, and Biological Engineering rate group, including tuition and required fees, estimated housing and food, and other estimated expenses. Within that estimate, tuition subtotal is USD 36,154; housing and food estimate is USD 16,734; and the listed other estimated expenses total USD 3,860. These amounts are for the table’s full-time, fall/spring annual basis, not a guaranteed amount for every student or every major.
The Bursar explains that housing and food estimates are not the same as actual charges for students living off campus, and that books, transportation and miscellaneous figures are estimates rather than billed fees. The table says some programs have additional fees and individual flight courses may incur course-specific charges. An honors college charge may also apply. Students should therefore review the row for their actual programme and campus, and check the notes rather than reusing the Computer Science group’s amount for another major.
These figures apply only to 2026-27. They do not establish the cost of attendance for the 2027-28 entry cycle. Use Purdue’s current undergraduate tuition and fees table and the student’s term-specific account information when preparing a final budget.
Treat financial aid estimates carefully
Purdue’s undergraduate admissions page lists scholarships, grants, loans and work-study among its financial assistance resources. However, aid programs have their own eligibility criteria and application steps; availability to a particular international student should not be assumed from a general aid page. Check each scholarship’s conditions and ask the Division of Financial Aid or the responsible scholarship office whether international applicants can apply. Any potential award should be deducted from the budget only after Purdue confirms it in writing.
Purdue’s Net Price Calculator page states that its calculator is designed for full-time domestic undergraduate students and is based on current figures and award guidelines. It also says an estimate is not a final determination or actual award. International students should not treat that tool’s output as their net price. Instead, use the international student’s own official cost estimate and any written scholarship offer, then plan for the remaining tuition, fees and living expenses.
A part-time campus job or future internship may be useful for experience, but it is not a substitute for documented funding to meet the student’s educational and living costs. Check immigration work rules and the exact aid conditions before relying on any future earnings. The Purdue financial aid resources and calculator page explain the limits of their tools.
Confirm the right rate before committing
Before accepting an offer, compare like with like: academic year, campus, academic program, residency category, full-time credit assumptions, billed tuition and fees, and estimated housing and other costs. Purdue’s 2026-27 rate page contains different tables for several colleges and programs and separate tables for Indianapolis, summer or winter sessions, online study and other fees. The same university name does not mean the same price applies to every route.
Ask Purdue to clarify any uncertainty about the student’s classification, program-specific differential, insurance or other required charge. Recheck the tuition table for the correct year and the student’s portal for invoiced charges. When planning from India, convert the USD total using a current exchange rate separately and allow for exchange-rate movement; do not treat a rupee conversion as a Purdue quote.
This guide summarizes official published prices for a prior academic year to make the cost structure understandable. It does not promise a future tuition rate, calculate an individual scholarship, or include every personal expense. The University Bursar’s current rates and the student’s official account are controlling.
