About Singapore
Singapore is a beautiful country, not just for business but also for education. It's considered one of the best in the world. The quality education system and developed economy attract students from India, China, Burma, and other Asian nations. The number of Indian students coming here keeps rising. The environment feels familiar because many Indian students study at various institutions.
Singapore has few natural resources, so human capital is its main asset. Education is seen as the key to a knowledge-based economy. With so much talent available, nearly all multinational companies have centers in Singapore. An estimated 87,000 international students study there, with Indian student numbers growing by 20% each year.
As migrant student numbers grow, the Singapore government is making efforts to globalize the education system. They encourage branches of top universities from around the world. Some of Europe's best business schools are there, alongside branches of famous US universities like the University of Chicago, MIT, and Stanford. Students here get a unique and pleasant educational opportunity.
At the National University of Singapore's Enterprise Centre, experts, industry leaders, and investors help develop young people's business ideas. Young entrepreneurs pitch their ideas on the lower floor. If approved, they meet industry representatives upstairs. If those talks go well, investors on the next floor provide full support to bring the idea to market.
Singapore's Institute of Technical Education has a similar concept. This government institution for vocational courses is surprising. A large part of the institute houses retail outlets where the public shops. Students work as trainees in these real shops-salons, bakeries, optical stores-connecting their practical training directly to the industry.
What is special in Singapore?
Safety: Singapore has one of the world's lowest crime rates. Its image is far better than Australia or America regarding student safety. The low crime rate makes nightlife easier.
Language: Singapore's British rule left a strong English-speaking population, which still impacts society. There's also Little India, where people of Indian origin, food, and culture are present. Hindi and Tamil are used alongside Mandarin and English.
Spending: Study costs are lower compared to Western countries. The government spends heavily on improving education infrastructure. Living and education costs are manageable for Indian students. An engineering degree from a prestigious college costs approximately 14,000 to 20,000 Singapore dollars (₹6,00,000 to ₹10,00,000) per year. Scholarships can further reduce costs.
Distance: The short distance attracts Indian students. A flight from India takes about five and a half hours. Direct daily flights are available from New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai.
Employment: The developed economy means no shortage of jobs. The ease of getting work permits is another attraction.
