Regular vs. Distance Education

Universities offer two main study methods: regular college education and correspondence, now often called Distance Education or e-Learning.

Admission in regular mode typically requires preparing for entrance tests and waiting for cut-off lists. If you get in, you then face challenges like living in a new city and completing assignments on time. Distance education removes these obstacles. Here, you often sit directly for annual examinations without strict attendance or class requirements.

Validity of Distance Education Degrees

Distance education and regular degrees are equivalent in many areas. First, the courses are often the same. Second, the degree awarded is identical. The certificate will not specify whether you studied via correspondence or regular classes; it only states the university and course name.

You should not face validity issues if the institute and course are approved by the Distance Education Council and other relevant bodies like MCI, PCI, NCTE, or BCI. However, limitations exist. Generally, fewer courses are available through distance mode at many universities. Common offerings include B.A., B.Com., B.Com Hons, Political Science, and English Hons programs.

Courses in Mass Communication, Journalism, Fashion Designing, and Law are also available, but science and technology programs are less common.
