JEE Main : Correct Way of Preparation
Last updated: April 20, 2026
The national-level entrance examination, JEE Main, is conducted online. Based on this exam, admission to undergraduate BE/BTech courses is offered in IITs, NITs, and other centrally and state-funded technical institutions. Here's how to prepare effectively.
The JEE Main exam is offered in both offline (pen-paper) and online (computer-based) modes. The question paper contains 90 multiple-choice questions, with 30 each from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Negative marking applies. While the syllabus broadly covers the intermediate course, certain chapters are more critical and frequently tested.
Emphasize Important Topics
- Physics: Newton's Laws of Motion, Work-Energy Theorem, Conservation Laws, Rotational Motion, Electronics, EMI, Heat and Thermodynamics, Nuclear Physics, Radioactivity, and Semiconductors.
- Chemistry: Redox Reactions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, GOC (General Organic Chemistry), P Block Elements.
- Maths: Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Quadratic Equations, Conic Sections, Definite Integration, Differential Equations, Vector and 3D Geometry, and Complex Numbers.
Practice Regularly
Regular mock test practice is crucial for JEE Main and JEE Advanced preparation. After completing the syllabus, consistently solve sample question sets and previous years' papers. This is especially important in the final one or two months before the exam. It improves performance. Aim to solve questions within the prescribed time limit.
Focus on Speed and Accuracy
Like other competitive exams, JEE Main demands speed and accuracy. Achieve this through regular, timed written practice. Work on problems daily in a simulated exam environment. Identify your weaknesses and address them. Repeat this process consistently.
Learn to Select the Right Questions
Scoring 100% is rarely possible. What matters more is how you perform relative to others. If the paper is difficult, it's difficult for everyone. You must develop the skill to decide which questions to attempt and which to skip during the exam. This decision-making ability is key to success.
