NEET-UG Examination Result is expected by mid-October
Last updated: April 20, 2026

The NEET-UG examination result for medical college admissions is expected by mid-October. This was the largest test conducted during the COVID-19 era. Nearly 16 lakh students registered, with about 85 percent appearing for the exam.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the exam offline for the first time. Answer keys for the pen-and-paper based test will be released next week.
A senior NTA official explained that NEET results take longer to process compared to the JEE Main examination. JEE Main results were released just six days after the exam. The delay for NEET stems from its manual, non-computer based format. Scanning the OMR sheets simply takes more time.
There are approximately 80,000 seats across 536 medical colleges in India. Government and private colleges each hold about half of these seats. Under the NMC Bill Act, the government now has authority to set fees for 50 percent of private college seats-around 20,000 seats. This means the government will regulate fees for roughly 75 percent of total medical seats, or about 60,000 seats nationwide.
