Read the fee figures by course and year

AIIMS New Delhi’s published MBBS charges are unusually low, but the number applicants often quote is only the academic payment. Hostel use, refundable deposits, meals and nationality change the amount and must be checked separately. The latest MBBS fee schedule I could verify in an institute prospectus is for the 2025 admission cycle. It is a useful dated benchmark, not a confirmed 2027-28 bill. The Institute says fees are subject to revision, so use the prospectus for the session in which you apply and follow the reporting instructions issued by the counselling authority.

The 2025 prospectus lists ₹1,628 in academic and other fees for Indian nationals: ₹1,350 tuition, ₹25 registration, ₹90 laboratory, ₹100 caution money and ₹63 student union fee. It asks selected candidates to pay after the Institute’s Medical Board has found them fit. This is a course-specific amount for MBBS, not a university-wide fee rate for nursing, paramedical, postgraduate or super-specialty programmes.

MBBS: tuition is separate from residence costs

The MBBS course is five and a half academic years, including a compulsory one-year internship. For 2025, the prospectus separately listed ₹3,728 under hostel and other fees. That figure includes ₹1,000 refundable hostel security, ₹990 hostel rent, ₹220 gymkhana, ₹1,320 pot fund and ₹198 electricity charges. Hostel allotment is subject to availability. Combining the two prospectus totals gives ₹5,356 in listed academic and hostel-related charges, but that is not a full cost-of-living estimate and should not be treated as a 2027-28 payable amount.

The two totals include ₹1,100 in refundable deposits: ₹100 academic caution money and ₹1,000 hostel security. Subtracting those deposits leaves ₹4,256 in the other listed academic and hostel charges, before food and personal expenses. This breakdown matters when comparing a quoted “total” with an amount due at reporting: the refundable part is a deposit, while the hostel amount also depends on getting a room. AIIMS says the 2025 dues are payable after the Medical Board declares the candidate medically fit; the prospectus allows cash, card or UPI and says an extension of the payment date will not be permitted.

Food is outside the hostel total. AIIMS’s hostel information says boarding charges are extra and that mess prices vary by service arrangement; its published estimate is not a guaranteed current bill. Applicants should ask the hostel or mess office for the current rate list, and should budget separately for personal expenses, travel and any other costs not listed in the prospectus. The refundable hostel security deposit is not the same as a non-refundable tuition charge.

Foreign nationals follow a materially different MBBS fee schedule: the 2025 prospectus states tuition of US$75,000, paid in three instalments across the pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical phases. Do not apply the Indian-national ₹1,628 figure to that route. The prospectus also describes separate admission and eligibility arrangements for foreign candidates; applicants should confirm their category and payment instructions with AIIMS and the Medical Counselling Committee before remitting funds.

Nursing, allied health and postgraduate courses

AIIMS New Delhi lists MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing (Hons.), B.Sc. Nursing Post Basic, radiography, optometry, operation theatre technology, dental hygiene, dental operating-room assistance, M.Sc. and M.Biotech courses, MD/MS/MDS, DM/M.Ch. and doctoral study. These programmes have different durations, entry routes and fee schedules. A single “AIIMS fee” figure cannot responsibly describe them all.

For hostel budgeting, the Institute’s FAQ, marked last updated 21 November 2025, reports separate course-based charges. It lists ₹1,440 across the four-year B.Sc. Nursing course and ₹960 for the four-year optometry entry shown as B.Sc. (Ophthal). Other listed allied-health hostel totals vary by course and duration. A refundable ₹1,000 hostel security deposit is shown separately, and boarding is extra. These are hostel charges, not the academic tuition for those degrees. The source advises applicants to consult the relevant admission prospectus as well.

The FAQ also shows different hostel charge schedules for medical residents, sponsored residents and research scholars. These should not be used as a proxy for tuition or for another programme. For nursing, allied-health and postgraduate admissions, check the exact course prospectus and the latest fee notice: older course pages and historical schedules may remain online, and a fee from one course or session does not establish the current amount for another.

What to confirm before accepting a seat

Use the current course-specific prospectus to confirm the academic fee, payment deadline, refundability of each deposit, and whether hostel accommodation is available for your category. Keep hostel rent and mess charges separate from tuition. If you are applying as a foreign national, verify the applicable fee schedule rather than converting the Indian-national amount. For any 2027-28 course whose current prospectus is not yet available, treat older figures as history only and wait for the official session notice before making a financial commitment.

The practical comparison is therefore not simply “low fee versus high fee.” For MBBS, the 2025 document shows a low academic charge, while accommodation and food are separate and category-specific. For other programmes, the current academic fee needs its own prospectus check. Applicants should retain the prospectus version and payment receipt for their own session because AIIMS reserves the right to revise published details.
