If you're looking at private engineering colleges in Bhopal with a focus on computer science and a track record of getting students into IT companies, Bansal Institute Of Research Technology & Science (BIRTS) is a name that consistently comes up. Established in 2008 and affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), it's part of the larger Bansal Group of Institutes (BGI Bhopal), which holds NAAC accreditation. The institute's pitch is straightforward: modern infrastructure, experienced faculty, and a placement-driven curriculum designed to funnel graduates towards recruiters like TCS and Infosys. For students with JEE Main ranks in the 1.3-1.4 lakh range, it presents a practical, if not particularly glamorous, option for a B.Tech degree in Madhya Pradesh.

Courses and Academic Programs at Bansal Institute Of Research Technology & Science

BIRTS offers a standard suite of B.E. programs under the RGPV curriculum, with a clear tilt towards computing. The seat distribution tells the story: Computer Science and Engineering gets the lion's share with 180 seats, followed by the newer, in-demand specializations in AI/ML and Data Science (60 seats each). Core branches like Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, and Electrical have smaller intakes, typically 30-60 seats. There are no postgraduate or doctoral programs offered specifically at BIRTS.

The academic approach is what you'd expect from a modern private institute. They emphasize Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and claim to design the curriculum around industry needs. In practice, this means the syllabus incorporates MOOCs, NPTEL courses, and value-added certification programs alongside the standard RGPV coursework. It's a pragmatic model aimed at making graduates more employable.

Faculty strength is listed at 56 members for a student body of 569, which is a decent student-teacher ratio. The institute highlights that most professors have over a decade of experience. Student reviews frequently back this up, praising the teaching quality and supportiveness of the faculty. You won't find nationally renowned researchers here, but for undergraduate teaching focused on fundamentals and application, the feedback is generally positive.

BIRTS Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is the section where you need to read between the lines of the official brochure. The college's website claims a "100% placement record from top companies." That's an ambitious statement. Student reviews offer a more grounded, and probably more accurate, picture. The consensus from platforms like Shiksha and others suggests a placement rate closer to 80-90% for students who actively participate in the process. That's still a solid figure for a private college in this tier.

The package data requires similar scrutiny. You'll see two numbers floating around: an unverified student review mention of a staggering INR 42 LPA, and a more recent, credible figure of INR 16.5 LPA as the highest package. The 42 LPA is almost certainly an outlier, perhaps a single off-campus achievement. The 16.5 LPA is a more believable top-end for on-campus recruitment. The average package, as reported by students, sits in the INR 4-5 LPA range. That's a realistic expectation for the majority.

Recruiters are the familiar names in IT services: TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Cognizant, and Capgemini. Placement for core branches (Mechanical, Civil) is less highlighted but does occur in relevant sectors. The training and placement cell receives positive remarks from students for being supportive. The verdict? Don't expect dream packages, but if your goal is a stable entry-level job in the IT sector after your B.Tech, BIRTS has a system that works for a high percentage of its students.

Fees and Financial Aid at Bansal Institute Of Research Technology & Science

The fee structure is branch-dependent, which is common. It's also relatively transparent, though remember to factor in additional costs.

• Tuition Fees (Total 4-Year Course):

  • BE in AI/ML: ₹2.88 Lakhs (highest)
  • BE in CSE / CSE (Data Science): ₹2.48 Lakhs
  • BE in Mechanical / Civil Engineering: ₹1.68 Lakhs (lowest)

• Hostel & Mess Fees: Approximately ₹54,000 per year (or about ₹4,500 per month). Some reviews also cite a ₹6,000 per month figure, so budget for a range.

• Other Mandatory Charges:

  • Bus Charges: ₹7,500 per semester.
  • University and examination fees are extra and paid separately.

Total 4-Year Cost Estimate: For a student in the hostel, the all-in cost for four years (excluding bus and university fees) ranges from about ₹3.84 lakhs for Civil/Mechanical to ₹5.04 lakhs for AI/ML. That works out to roughly ₹96,000 to ₹1.26 lakhs per year. It's not the cheapest option, but it's competitive for a private institute with its claimed facilities.

Scholarships are available, primarily through state schemes. The institute directs students to the official MP Scholarship portal. Eligibility depends on category, merit, and family income.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admission to all B.E. programs at BIRTS is centralized through the state counseling process conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Madhya Pradesh. Your ticket in is your JEE Main score. MP BE and MPPET scores are also accepted, but JEE Main is the primary gateway.

The cutoffs are where you gauge your chances. For the 2025 admission cycle, the closing ranks for the General Home State category give a clear picture of demand:

• BE Computer Science & Engineering: Closing Rank 1446259
• BE Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning: Closing Rank 1431389
• BE Computer Science & Engineering (Data Science): Closing Rank 1355443
• BE Civil Engineering: Closing Rank 1356863

As expected, CSE and its variants are the most sought-after. The ranks are not overly competitive, placing BIRTS as an accessible option for students with moderate JEE Main scores. The selection is purely merit-based through the DTE MP counseling rounds. Keep an eye on the official BGI Bhopal website and the DTE MP portal for application windows, which typically open around July-August.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

Spread over 5 acres in the Kokta area of Bhopal, the BIRTS campus is described by students as "vast and clean." The infrastructure is consistently highlighted as a strong point. Lecture halls are equipped with smart boards, labs are modern and well-maintained, and the library is reported to be well-stocked with a spacious reading area. Wi-Fi covers the campus, and power backup is available.

The hostel situation has some conflicting reports. Officially, the institute provides hostels near the campus with "comfortable and secure" living, nutritious food, indoor games, and laundry. Several student reviews praise the hostel food and atmosphere. However, at least one review flatly states the college does not provide a hostel. This is likely an outlier or a case of limited hostel seats being full. If hostel accommodation is critical for you, it's essential to confirm availability directly with the institute during admission.

Student life is a mixed bag. On the positive side, the college has various clubs (coding, cultural, English) and organizes annual events like "Timelapse," "Bansal Utsav," and Garba nights. Sports facilities are decent, with cricket, volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts outdoors, and table tennis, carrom, and chess indoors. The canteen provides basic meals, though quality is noted as variable.

The downside, mentioned by some students, is that the campus isn't "happening" in a traditional college sense. The focus leans heavily towards academics and productive seminars. The daily schedule—typically 10 AM to 4:30 PM—is structured. If you're looking for a vibrant, university-style social scene every day, you might find it somewhat lacking.

Student Reviews: What BIRTS Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing feedback from review platforms paints a coherent picture. The praise is concentrated in three areas: faculty, infrastructure, and placements. Students repeatedly call out the teaching quality, noting experienced and supportive professors. The smart classrooms, labs, and clean campus get high marks. On placements, while the 100% claim is viewed skeptically, most agree the placement cell is effective and a high percentage of willing students get IT jobs.

The criticisms are about campus culture and some amenities. The phrase "not so happening" comes up regarding social life. The canteen food is just okay. The long daily schedule is noted as a minor gripe. There's no significant uproar about management issues or unfair practices, which suggests a generally stable administrative environment.

It's the kind of feedback you'd expect for a mid-tier private engineering college. It does its core job well (education, placement) but isn't a holistic lifestyle destination. For many students and parents, that's a perfectly acceptable trade-off.

Verdict: Is Bansal Institute Of Research Technology & Science Worth It?

BIRTS is a pragmatic choice. It's best for students who have secured a JEE Main rank in the 1.3-1.45 lakh range and are primarily focused on getting a functional B.Tech degree and a job in the IT sector. Its strengths are clear: decent teaching, good infrastructure for its price point, and a functional placement pipeline to major IT service companies. The fees are reasonable, and the location within Bhopal is convenient.

You should probably look elsewhere if you're aiming for top-tier research, ultra-competitive campus drives with product companies, or a bustling, immersive campus social life. The college's identity is that of a placement-oriented institute, not a center of academic innovation.

So, is it worth it? For a student from Madhya Pradesh or the surrounding region, with a target of stable post-graduation employment, BIRTS represents a solid, low-risk investment. You'll likely get out what you put in. Manage your expectations, focus on your studies and skills, and the institute's system should help you land that first job. In the ecosystem of private engineering colleges, that's a successful outcome.
