MBA admission: what the 2026 notice says
The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at IIT Roorkee publishes programme-specific MBA admission instructions. Its saved notice describes MBA Admissions 2026. It is historical guidance for a later intake and does not establish the status of a future intake. The page title is “Admissions 2025”, the site menu says “Admissions 2026”, and the body identifies MBA Admissions 2026, CAT 2025 and interviews tentatively scheduled in March 2026. Those clues point to the cycle described in the body, but the conflicting labels make it especially important to open the current notice before acting. DoMS MBA admissions notice.
For the 2026 cycle, an applicant needed a degree from a recognised university, or a professional qualification equivalent to a university degree recognised by the UGC, in any discipline. The stated minimum was 60% aggregate marks, reduced to 55% for SC, ST and PD candidates. The notice describes aggregate marks or CGPA awarded in qualifying-degree examinations as the basis for the percentage. Applicants whose institution reports CGPA should therefore confirm how their result is to be interpreted rather than assume a conversion formula that the notice does not state.
Final-year students could apply provisionally. They still had to complete the qualifying degree with the required marks or CGPA by the date specified for that cycle. The notice also describes a case where a final-year result was delayed: the candidate could attend the interview using aggregate results up to the pre-final year, provided that performance met the stated minimum, but had to submit proof of passing by 30 September 2026. That deadline has passed. It is useful as evidence of how the 2026 notice treated delayed results, not as a date for a future application.
Shortlisting and selection are different steps
Initial invitations to interview were based on CAT 2025 performance. The notice states one exception: an IIT graduate who had qualified JEE or JEE Advanced and held a CGPA of at least 7.0 on a 10-point scale was exempt from CAT and directly called for a personal interview. This is a narrowly described DoMS MBA exception. It does not establish a JEE or JoSAA admission route for the department, and the regular MBA shortlist should not be inferred from IIT Roorkee’s engineering admissions rules.
An interview invitation was not itself an offer. The notice says the final merit list for offers used aggregate performance in CAT 2025, followed by an interview and work experience. It does not provide the weights for those components in the page content captured here, so applicants should not infer a formula or predict a result from a CAT score alone. Nor was a verified official CAT percentile cutoff series found. Coaching estimates, engineering opening or closing ranks, and cutoffs for another management school cannot substitute for a DoMS selection rule.
The notice says interview invitations would be sent by email and that the information would also appear on the institute website. Interviews were tentatively scheduled for March 2026 at IIT Roorkee and venues in Greater Noida, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. “Tentatively” matters: applicants in that cycle needed to use the invitation and current institute notice for the confirmed venue and instructions. These locations and the 2026 schedule should not be presented as the next cycle’s plan.
Category documents and seats
For the 2026 cycle, the page specified documentation for some categories. OBC applicants were asked to submit a photocopy of the prescribed Government of India category certificate, issued by a competent authority after 31 March 2025. SC, ST and PD candidates were asked to provide the required certificate in the prescribed Government of India format at interview. The notice says reservations follow Government of India rules. Certificate formats, validity dates and submission stages can change, so applicants should use the instructions attached to the applicable cycle rather than reuse a previous certificate checklist.
The same notice stated that 95 seats were “presently” available in the MBA programme. This is the figure stated for the 2026 admission information, not a confirmed current capacity or a guarantee of offers. Seat numbers and category allocation should be checked in the live notice for the target intake. The captured content does not provide a category-wise seat table, so none is inferred here.
For portal-related questions, the notice names IIT Roorkee’s Academic Affairs Office (Admission). It separately directs eligibility, admission-process and programme-specific questions to the Professor and Head of DoMS. Contact details may change; use those shown on the current official page before sending documents or relying on an answer. Avoid sending sensitive certificates through an unofficial channel.
DoMS offers separate programme routes
The department also lists an Executive MBA and doctoral study in Management Studies, including full-time and part-time research. These programmes have their own structure and admission requirements; the MBA’s CAT-based shortlist does not automatically apply to them. The department describes its regular MBA as a two-year residential programme. Its Executive MBA is also described as a two-year programme, with a longer permitted completion period, so candidates should consult the separate programme page and current notice for the rules that apply to that degree. DoMS programmes.
For a later MBA application, check one current official notice for the qualifying degree, marks calculation, category documents, accepted CAT cycle, shortlisting and final-selection stages, interview arrangements, seat information and final-year completion deadline. Keep the date attached to every requirement. If your degree title, CGPA conversion or certificate format is unclear, contact the admissions office named in the live notice before submitting. A past-year rule can help you identify what to verify; it cannot confirm eligibility or a deadline for a cycle that has not been documented here.
