The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) is the management department of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Its catalogue lists a regular MBA, an Executive MBA and doctoral study in Management Studies. The available sources describe the 2026 MBA admission cycle and programme structure, but do not establish an open 2027-28 application window, current fee totals, MBA placement outcomes, a department-level NIRF rank or a DoMS-specific accreditation. Applicants should use the current notice for each programme rather than carry old numbers into a new cycle.
DoMS is based at IIT Roorkee in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Its history page says Management Studies was established in 1998 at the then University of Roorkee. IIT Roorkee’s heritage page describes the parent institution’s lineage: Roorkee College began in 1847, and the University of Roorkee became an IIT in 2001. These dates describe different events. The department’s 1998 history should not be conflated with the institute’s 1847 origin or its 2001 IIT status. DoMS history · IIT Roorkee heritage.
IIT Roorkee identifies itself as an Institution of National Importance. That status belongs to the parent institute and does not establish a separate DoMS accreditation. The official pages captured for this review do not establish a current programme-specific AICTE approval statement or a department-level NAAC grade for the MBA. Check the current prospectus or ask the institute for regulatory documents before relying on a third-party profile.
The DoMS catalogue describes the regular MBA as a residential programme across two academic years, organised into eight terms and 76 credits. It lists dual specialisation across Finance, Marketing, Operations, Information Systems and Human Resource Management. This identifies the subject areas, but does not establish which elective combinations will run in a particular term or how many students can choose each one. Prospective students should compare the current curriculum and course schedule for their intended cohort. DoMS programmes · Course information.
The Executive MBA is a separate offering. The department describes it as a two-year degree that may be completed in up to five years, with more than 55 electives. Those figures do not tell a working professional the attendance schedule, delivery mode, current fee basis or which electives will actually be offered. Use the separate Executive MBA notice for those details. The regular MBA’s residential format and CAT shortlist should not be assumed to apply to this programme.
DoMS also lists full-time and part-time PhD study in Management Studies. The catalogue says fellowship availability follows institute norms, but this does not guarantee funding or establish an individual stipend, selection test, duration or supervisor availability. Applicants should check the current doctoral advertisement and research information for the exact intake. The MBA, Executive MBA and PhD have different audiences and commitments; compare each against its own notice rather than treating the department’s programmes as one admissions route.
The saved DoMS MBA notice describes the 2026 cycle. The page title says “Admissions 2025”, the navigation menu says “Admissions 2026”, and the body identifies MBA Admissions 2026, CAT 2025 and interviews tentatively planned in March 2026. The body provides the clearest cycle markers, but the inconsistent labels make checking the live official notice essential. This source does not establish later-cycle dates or application status. DoMS MBA admission notice.
For the 2026 cycle, applicants needed a degree from a recognised university or an equivalent professional qualification recognised by the UGC, in any discipline. The notice set a minimum of 60% aggregate marks, or 55% for SC, ST and PD candidates. It says the aggregate marks or CGPA awarded in qualifying-degree examinations would be considered. It does not state a universal conversion formula for every university’s CGPA, so candidates should confirm how their own transcript will be evaluated.
Final-year students could apply provisionally, provided they completed the qualifying degree with the required marks or CGPA by the specified date. The notice also addresses delayed final results: candidates could appear for interview using results through the pre-final year if those results met the minimum, but had to provide proof of passing by 30 September 2026. That deadline has passed and is historical, not a future-cycle instruction.
Initial interview shortlisting used CAT 2025. The notice gives a limited exception: IIT graduates who had qualified JEE or JEE Advanced and had a CGPA of at least 7.0 on a 10-point scale were exempt from CAT and directly called to interview. This is a specific DoMS MBA exception; it does not make JEE the regular MBA entrance exam or establish an engineering/JoSAA route for the department. The notice says final offers considered CAT performance, interview and work experience, but the captured text does not give a verified percentile cutoff series or the component weights. Engineering cutoffs and estimates from coaching sites are not DoMS MBA selection data.
The same notice stated that 95 MBA seats were “presently” available. It tentatively scheduled interviews in Roorkee, Greater Noida, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata and said reservation followed Government of India rules. OBC applicants were asked for a prescribed category certificate issued after 31 March 2025; SC, ST and PD candidates were asked for the prescribed certificate at interview. These seat figures, locations and document dates belong to the 2026 information and may change. Verify the active cycle’s notice for seat information, category documents, selection stages and final-year deadlines.
A current MBA fee total could not be verified from the saved official department sources. Legacy database totals lack a clear academic year, components and payment basis, so they are not repeated. Ask for the current MBA and Executive MBA schedules separately. Compare tuition, institute charges, deposits, accommodation and meals over the stated duration; an older combined total cannot safely stand in for a current bill.
The DoMS Placement Reports page lists annual editions through 2025, and a separate page describes the placement process. The captured reports page does not expose inspectable report attachments; its linked XML endpoint returned 404. The available material therefore does not substantiate a current MBA placement rate, cohort denominator, median or average salary, highest offer, recruiter count or role distribution. Do not repeat figures from directories without the original report and its cohort definitions. DoMS placement reports · Placement process.
When comparing a report, check the graduating year, eligible students, students seeking placement, accepted offers and salary period. A rate needs its denominator; a salary needs its unit and cohort; a recruiter list needs a year and a clear statement of whether it represents offers. These measures answer different questions. The archive listing helps locate editions, but the listing itself is not evidence of outcomes.
The department’s facilities page describes a departmental library, classrooms and learning aids. It also refers to the wider IIT Roorkee library and campus resources. An institute facility may be available to students without being owned or operated by DoMS. The same page includes older hardware and bandwidth details, which are not treated as current specifications. Confirm present access, hours and services with the department or institute. DoMS facilities.
The reviewed material does not establish a current hostel allocation, room type, mess charge or residential availability for a particular intake. The MBA’s residential format describes the programme, not a guarantee of a particular room. Applicants who need campus housing should ask the institute for the current allocation rules and costs. The parent institute’s campus information can provide context, but does not answer a programme-specific housing question.
DoMS may fit applicants seeking management study within a technical institute and a regular MBA curriculum that permits two specialisations. That is a description of the documented structure, not evidence about teaching quality or employment results. The sources reviewed do not support comparative claims such as “top-ranked”, “100% placed” or “best value”. A useful comparison should put the current curriculum, total fee basis, location, residential costs and same-year outcome data side by side.
Start by choosing the programme, then use its own current notice. MBA candidates should compare their degree and marks with the live eligibility rules, register for the specified CAT cycle if required, and keep category documentation and final-year completion dates tied to that notice. Executive MBA candidates should check the distinct work-compatible format and completion terms. PhD applicants should consult the current advertisement for eligibility, selection and funding. If a fact is absent from the responsible source, ask IIT Roorkee directly rather than borrowing a rule from another IIT or management school.
