IBS Scholarships: published 2026 criteria and 2027-29 questions
IBS’s FAQ describes 500 scholarships for the 2026 academic year: 400 reserved for high IBSAT scorers and 100 for high scorers in CAT, XAT, NMAT by GMAC and GMAT. It gives test-specific merit criteria for the national exams and says IBSAT awards go to top rankers across the scheduled dates. The current admissions page says scholarship announcements for CAT, NMAT by GMAC, XAT and GMAT will follow after official scores are submitted, in January 2027. These are dated references, not a confirmed 2027-29 award count or a promise that a Kolkata PGPM student will receive an award.
What IBS publishes
The FAQ’s 2026 scholarship information states 500 total awards, divided into 400 for IBSAT scorers and 100 for candidates using CAT, XAT, NMAT by GMAC or GMAT. It says each IBSAT date set was allocated 100 scholarships. The FAQ gives the following merit thresholds for the national tests: CAT at or above the 80th percentile, XAT at or above the 80th percentile, GMAT at 550 or above, and NMAT by GMAC at 225 or above. For IBSAT, it says scholarships are awarded to top rankers appearing across the scheduled dates.
These details belong to the FAQ’s 2026 scholarship reference. They do not establish that the same number of awards, reserved split, thresholds or schedule will apply to the 2027-29 admission batch. The current admissions page indicates that scholarship announcements for candidates presenting official scores from CAT, NMAT by GMAC, XAT or GMAT are expected after scores are submitted in January 2027. That announcement timing does not itself confirm the award total, scholarship amount, campus allocation or renewal conditions for the incoming class.
How to read the score criteria
For the 2026 reference, the FAQ associates the 80th-percentile threshold with CAT and XAT, a score of 550 or above with GMAT, and a score of 225 or higher with NMAT by GMAC. It describes IBSAT scholarship selection as going to top rankers across scheduled test dates rather than stating a single fixed IBSAT score threshold. Keep these criteria attached to their test names and the 2026 reference year. A CAT percentile is not interchangeable with a GMAT score or an NMAT score, and the source does not provide a common conversion between them.
The FAQ frames the listed values as criteria to qualify for merit scholarships through national-level tests. It does not say that crossing a threshold guarantees an award. The page separately describes awards for top IBSAT rankers; it does not publish the rank cut line in the captured text. Applicants should not treat a qualifying score as a confirmed scholarship offer or assume that the same test rank will produce the same award in another cycle.
Before choosing an exam for the purpose of scholarship eligibility, confirm that the test is accepted for the current admission cycle and that the scholarship notice uses the same score year. IBS’s FAQ accepts qualifying admission scores from 2024 onward for the 2027-29 cycle, but scholarship timing and thresholds can be published separately. Use the official scholarship notice and the individual offer, not a generic admissions statement, to confirm whether a score qualifies for an award.
Campus and programme scope
IBS Kolkata offers the PGPM, while IBS uses the same application system for multiple MBA and PGPM campuses. The scholarship FAQ does not allocate the 500 awards by campus, identify a Kolkata-only pool or state whether each award amount differs by programme. It also does not say whether the same thresholds apply to every campus or whether an award can be combined with another fee concession. Do not divide the total scholarship count across campuses or assume that a Kolkata applicant has access to a particular number of awards.
The available FAQ gives the number of awards and test criteria but not scholarship amounts, percentage fee waivers, duration, renewal conditions, academic-performance requirements or rules for combining awards. Applicants should ask which award types apply to the Kolkata PGPM, whether selection is automatic or requires a separate application, how the award is calculated against fees, when it is confirmed and what conditions apply in later terms. Those details should come from the current written scholarship notice or offer.
Timing and score submission
The admissions page says scholarship announcements linked to CAT, NMAT by GMAC, XAT and GMAT will occur after official scores are submitted, in January 2027. Applicants using those tests should check the current instructions for how to submit an official score and the deadline for doing so. The captured page does not say that an unofficial score screenshot is sufficient, and it does not specify the award amount or exact announcement date. Keep the score submission receipt and any scholarship communication with the application records.
For IBSAT, the FAQ’s 2026 reference ties scholarship distribution to the eight December test dates and says 100 awards were allocated to each set of dates. That schedule and allocation are part of the published 2026 information. Do not carry them forward as a 2027-29 promise without a current announcement. Check the candidate portal for the current cycle’s award notice and keep its publication date visible when comparing it with older FAQ material.
Questions to resolve before relying on an award
Ask IBS for a current 2027-29 scholarship notice that names the campus and programme. Confirm the total award amount, eligible tests and score years, whether the 2026 thresholds have been revised, the process for submitting official results, the award announcement date and the allocation method for IBSAT candidates. Ask whether a score meeting a stated threshold only makes an applicant eligible for consideration or results in an award, and whether any separate application is required.
Also confirm how an award affects the fee schedule. Ask whether it applies to the programme fee, the first instalment or later instalments; whether it is renewable; which academic-performance conditions apply; and whether it can be combined with any other concession. The FAQ’s 2026 count and thresholds do not answer these questions. Keep scholarship value separate from the published PGPM fee until the institution confirms the award in writing.
Published information and remaining gaps
The saved official FAQ establishes what IBS published for 2026: 500 total scholarships, a 400/100 division between IBSAT and national-test scorers, 100 scholarships per IBSAT date set, CAT and XAT thresholds of 80 percentile, GMAT 550, NMAT by GMAC 225, and awards for top IBSAT rankers. The current admissions page says national-test scholarship announcements follow official score submission in January 2027. The sources do not establish the 2027-29 award count, Kolkata allocation, monetary value, renewal rules or exact selection formula. Those are questions for the current official scholarship notice, not values to infer from the prior-year FAQ.
