What is open for IIM Mumbai MBA admission?
As checked on 4 November 2026, IIM Mumbai’s central Admissions page lists the MBA, MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management (MBA-OSCM), and MBA in Sustainability Management (MBA-SM) under Admission 2026. It marks each 2026-28 intake as closed. The page does not show a 2027-29 MBA application notice or dates. That means applicants should use the 2026-28 documents below as a reference to the most recently published selection rules, not as an invitation to apply or a promise that the next cycle will use the same CAT year, thresholds, deadlines or weights. Check the current IIM Mumbai Admissions page.
IIM Mumbai runs three separate full-time MBA routes in this admission group. The general MBA is open to graduates from any discipline. MBA-OSCM has a narrower degree-background test. MBA-SM accepts graduates from any discipline, with sustainability management as the programme focus. The previous admission page describes each as a two-year programme and identifies them separately; applicants should compare the eligibility pages before choosing which application to follow. A common institute name does not mean the three programmes have identical academic entry requirements.
General MBA and MBA-SM: qualifying degree
For the 2026-28 MBA and MBA-SM batches, the institute’s policies required a recognised bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA, relaxed to 45% for SC, ST and PwD applicants. The degree had to represent at least three years of education after higher secondary schooling. These programmes accepted graduates from any discipline. The policy explains that the awarding institution’s own method is used to calculate marks; where no conversion scheme exists, IIM Mumbai divides the CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplies by 100. Read the MBA policy or MBA-SM policy for the applicable details.
MBA-OSCM: qualifying degrees
MBA-OSCM has a distinct qualification route. The 2026-28 policy accepted an Engineering or Technology degree in any branch, with 50% marks or equivalent CGPA, relaxed to 45% for SC, ST and PwD applicants. It also listed alternatives: M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Statistics, a minimum five-year dual degree in Mathematics and Computing, or a minimum four-year BS/B.Tech in Economics, at the same stated marks threshold. Do not assume that any bachelor’s degree that is acceptable for the general MBA automatically qualifies for OSCM. Check the programme-specific OSCM policy, especially if your degree title or duration is unusual.
CAT 2025 minimums were screening floors, not guaranteed interview cutoffs
For 2026-28, IIM Mumbai used CAT 2025 for the general MBA, MBA-OSCM and MBA-SM. Their policies published the same category-wise minimum percentile floors for Stage I consideration for a personal interview:
These are minimum requirements to be considered at Stage I, not a promise of a shortlist at exactly those percentiles. The policies explicitly say actual section-wise and overall cutoffs may be higher depending on the number of candidates called for interviews in each category. Candidates meeting Stage I could then be shortlisted for PI using CAT score, sectional cutoffs and reservation category. For a future application, do not use this CAT 2025 table as a prediction of the CAT 2026 or later cutoff. The full tables appear in the official MBA, MBA-OSCM and MBA-SM policies.
How the 2026-28 final selection score worked
The 2026-28 policies describe a three-stage process: meet the Stage I CAT minimums, receive a PI shortlist, then enter a category-wise merit list after the interview. For the general MBA, the composite score assigned 60% to CAT 2025, 20% to the personal interview and 20% to the Academic Performance and Work Experience (APWE) score. The OSCM and Sustainability Management policies list the same weights. The institute labels these weights tentative and says they may vary depending on applicant data status. They are historical policy terms for the named batch, not a confirmed 2027-29 formula.
APWE in those policies drew on school marks, bachelor’s marks and work experience, with discipline and school stream affecting how academic marks were scored. The MBA policy also placed a date on its work-experience calculation: experience as of 31 December 2025. The practical point is that CAT was the largest single stated component, but it was not the complete final score. Interview performance and the academic/work-experience calculation still mattered. Applicants should not try to forecast a final score from the published minimum CAT table alone.
Final-year applicants and documents
The prior policies permitted final-year students and applicants awaiting results to apply, subject to documents and eventual completion. Those conditions were tied to the 2026-28 intake. The degree-completion deadline was 30 June 2026. Provisionally admitted candidates had until 31 December 2026 to submit the final marksheet and certificate. Those dates belong to the closed 2026-28 batch; neither sets a future intake’s deadline. A new applicant should wait for the next policy before deciding how much time they have to complete their degree.
For the previous batch, the institute’s policies allowed applicants with CGPA or grades to use their university’s official equivalence where available. If the institution had no conversion scheme, the MBA and MBA-SM policy stated the institute’s formula of CGPA divided by the maximum CGPA, multiplied by 100. The policy also required final-year applicants to support their current marks and later prove degree completion. Keep transcripts, degree-duration information and any official conversion certificate available, but follow the next cycle’s document instructions rather than submitting against dates from a closed batch.
IIM Mumbai applies the Government of India reservation policy for Central Educational Institutions. The 2026-28 MBA policy listed the CAT 2025 categories and thresholds in its own tables; category eligibility and minimum CAT floors should be checked together. A candidate who meets the minimum eligibility percentage still does not automatically qualify for an interview or admission. The institute reserves discretion over shortlisting and academic-category classification.
What to do next
The immediate action is to monitor IIM Mumbai’s official Admissions page for a new MBA intake notice and the linked policy for each programme. Confirm the batch label, CAT year, eligibility, category-specific Stage I table, interview process, final-score weights, application window and final-year document dates directly in that notice. If applying to OSCM, compare your degree’s subject and duration with its listed alternatives. If applying to the general MBA or MBA-SM, check the next policy’s degree and conversion rules.
As of the source check for this 2027-28 guide, the latest MBA admission policies available on the institute page describe CAT 2025 and the closed 2026-28 batch. No 2027-29 application deadline, CAT requirement, shortlist threshold or final-selection formula has been established here. Treat those items as unannounced until IIM Mumbai publishes the next official policy.
