IIM Mumbai MBA scholarships for 2027-28: what is confirmed?
IIM Mumbai’s current Admissions page and the official policies located for the MBA, MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management (MBA-OSCM), and MBA in Sustainability Management (MBA-SM) describe the 2026-28 batch. In the pages and policy PDFs reviewed for this 2027-28 guide, I did not find a current MBA scholarship or tuition-waiver schedule, amount, eligibility test, application form, or award timeline. That is a source-bounded gap, not proof that no student can receive assistance. The policies are tied to an earlier batch, and no 2027-29 aid rules should be inferred from them. Check the next programme-specific policy before budgeting on a scholarship.
This distinction matters when comparing an offer with another school. A fee table tells you the amount charged; it does not establish that a grant will reduce it. Likewise, a reserved seat category or a concession mentioned in an older disclosure is not automatically an institute scholarship for a new MBA entrant. Until an award letter states the amount, eligible programme, payment timing and conditions, compare the full published cost and treat any possible aid as unconfirmed.
PhD research assistance is a separate funding route
The same Admissions page does publish monthly financial assistance for eligible PhD scholars: ₹37,000 for a Junior Research Fellow with two years or less of research, and ₹42,000 for a Senior Research Fellow with more than two years. IIM Mumbai says it follows Department of Science and Technology Office Memorandum SR/S9/Z-08/2018, dated 30 January 2019, for research personnel under centrally funded R&D programmes. These are PhD research stipends, not MBA scholarships, tuition discounts or a general student grant. The page does not provide enough detail here to treat every PhD applicant as eligible; confirm the programme’s current admission notice and funding conditions.
The JRF and SRF labels also describe research-stage categories, not two MBA merit bands. Do not multiply the monthly figures by a presumed number of months or years to estimate a guaranteed award: the page excerpt does not set a stipend duration, continuation conditions, deductions or all eligibility requirements. PhD applicants should verify these details with the current doctoral programme notice and ask whether the cited rates remain applicable to their admission year.
Why older fee-waiver figures should not be carried forward
IIM Mumbai’s official Mandatory Disclosures 2022 file contains older NITIE-era fee-waiver information for postgraduate diploma programmes and cohorts around 2021-22. It lists need-based tuition concessions and government assistance in that historical context, and names programmes such as PGDIE and PGDIM. The document predates the current MBA policies and does not establish a scholarship for today’s MBA, MBA-OSCM or MBA-SM intake. Do not apply its old percentages, family-income limits or assistantship amounts to a 2027-29 MBA budget. A historical disclosure is useful for understanding why old web summaries may mention aid, but it is not a current offer.
The programme label and cohort are decisive. NITIE-era diploma students and current IIM Mumbai MBA students are not interchangeable populations, even though the institution’s name changed. An old waiver record cannot answer whether a current applicant qualifies, whether the benefit still exists, or whether the amount offsets tuition, hostel charges or another component. The recent MBA policy PDFs are the relevant documents to monitor for programme-specific terms.
How applicants should confirm support before accepting an offer
Ask IIM Mumbai whether any institute-funded scholarship or fee concession applies to your exact programme and batch. Request the current written notice and confirm: who may apply; whether selection is based on household income, academic merit or both; what income documents and certificates are required; the award amount and whether it is one-time or recurring; when applications open; and whether the benefit reduces tuition or is paid separately. Also ask whether the award is available to all three MBA routes or only a named programme. Until those terms are published, compare the full programme cost without assuming a waiver.
Check external government or lender assistance separately from institute awards. Eligibility, application portals and disbursement are controlled by the relevant scheme or lender, and may depend on domicile, category, income, course recognition or bank assessment. An admission offer by itself does not establish eligibility. Keep the programme’s official fee schedule and any written scholarship decision together when comparing financing options.
For the 2027-28 guide, the practical answer is therefore narrow: the reviewed official material confirms PhD JRF/SRF assistance, but does not state MBA scholarship terms for the next intake. Recheck the central IIM Mumbai Admissions page and the policy linked for your programme before paying a deposit. If admissions staff confirm a scheme directly, request the written rules and effective batch so that the assistance can be compared on the same basis as fees.
