IIM Shillong admissions: choose a route, then check its cycle
IIM Shillong’s two main entry routes serve different applicants: the two-year Post Graduate Programme (PGP), which leads to an MBA, and the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), which begins after Class XII. The institute’s posted PGP 2026-28 and IPM 2026-31 notices describe application rounds whose published dates have passed. As of 4 November 2026, the official pages reviewed do not publish the next PGP admission cycle. Treat the 2026 criteria below as historical cycle guidance, not as confirmed 2027-29 rules.
If you are applying after a bachelor’s degree, follow the PGP page and prepare for the CAT cycle named in the next admission policy. If you are applying after Class XII, follow the IPM page and check its next notice for the aptitude-test and academic requirements. Do not substitute one route’s examination or eligibility rules for the other.
PGP: two-year MBA route after a bachelor’s degree
For the 2026-28 PGP, applicants needed a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA; the stated threshold was 45% for SC, ST and Differently Abled candidates. Final-year students and candidates awaiting results could apply provisionally under the conditions in the admission notice. The institute’s page states domestic applicants needed a valid CAT score, with the applicable CAT year specified in the cycle document. It described a separate overseas route for candidates unable to appear for CAT 2025 because they were resident outside India, using GMAT scores for that cycle. Confirm the candidate definition and accepted test in the next policy before relying on the overseas exception.
How the 2026-28 selection worked
The policy used two phases. First, candidates who had opted for IIM Shillong in the CAT application were screened against sectional minimums, then ranked using a composite score based on CAT percentile (65%) and a normalized application rating score (35%). The rating score combined Class X, Class XII and graduation performance with work-experience points. Shortlisting also distributed candidates across academic disciplines and social categories; meeting the minimum percentile alone did not guarantee an interview.
After the personal interview, final ranking used scaled CAT score (40%), PI (40%), application rating score (10%) and a gender score (10%) under the policy’s stated method. The policy also specified minimum PI and communication-proficiency percentages by category; communication was evaluated but its score was not included in the final score. These weights and thresholds belong to 2026-28 only. Read the new cycle document before calculating your chances or preparing around a past formula.
IPM: five-year route after Class XII
The 2026-31 IPM round required at least 70% in both Class X and Class XII, reduced to 65% for SC, ST and DA candidates, and Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Classes XI and XII. Applicants also needed to appear for IPM AT 2026 conducted by IIM Indore; the notice allowed SAT for overseas candidates. The notice’s age rule was tied to a birth date on or after 1 August 2006, with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST and DA applicants. All of these conditions are specific to IPM 2026-31.
The IPM application window ran from 1 May to 30 May 2026. The institute listed shortlisting and PI on 16 June, PI slots from 23 to 25 June, tentative results in the second week of July, and classes in the first week of September 2026. The institute’s page records that this 2026 intake is no longer accepting applications. Those dates are not a schedule for the next intake. Check the next IPM admission policy for any changes to age, marks, test, application fee and stages.
What to do before the next cycle opens
- Choose the route. PGP is the post-bachelor’s MBA route; IPM is the five-year route for eligible school-leavers.
- Check the official cycle notice. Use IIM Shillong’s Admission Process page for PGP or its IPM Admission Process page for IPM. Confirm the intake label, exam year, eligibility and application window on the notice itself.
- Prepare records early. Keep marksheets, degree or provisional-completion documents, category documentation where applicable, and work-experience records ready. The 2026 PGP policy used academic records and experience in its rating score, but the next cycle may set different criteria.
- Complete the correct exam and application steps. Follow the cycle’s instructions for CAT, IPM AT or an expressly allowed overseas route. A test score by itself does not complete an institute application.
- Track institute communications. Shortlisting, PI scheduling, offers and registration are separate stages. Watch the official site and the contact details on the current notice; do not rely on old tentative dates or third-party calendars.
The institute has not yet announced the next PGP cycle on the pages reviewed. The published 2026 IPM process is closed, and these sources do not establish the next IPM opening date. Recheck the official pages when the next policy is released. Until then, no future deadline or admission formula can be confirmed.
