IIM Kozhikode scholarships: institute aid, government schemes and eligibility
IIM Kozhikode lists several kinds of student support: an institute merit award, need-based financial assistance, central and state government schemes, and scholarships run by outside organizations. Which route fits depends on the programme, academic performance, family income, category or domicile, and the scheme’s own application rules. The listed opportunities are not automatic fee reductions, and the published page does not promise an award to every eligible student.
For a practical first check, separate support into three questions: Is the scheme for your programme and year? Do you meet its financial or academic conditions? Who makes the final award decision? IIMK’s need-based aid, for example, considers income and a scheduled-bank education loan, while the merit award is tied to CGPA. Government and sponsor schemes use their own rules. Keep those tracks separate when estimating how much of the programme fee you may need to fund.
Institute merit scholarships and need-based aid
The IIMK Merit Scholarship page says first- and second-year students in PGP, PGP-LSM and PGP-Finance may receive the award based on CGPA performance during an academic year. It states a ratio of one scholarship for every 20 students in each year. This is a selection basis and a ratio, not a commitment that any particular student will receive a fixed award. The webpage does not state a current award amount; the annual report provides one historical reference below.
IIMK Need Based Financial Assistance (NBFA) is a separate route. The posted eligibility criteria require gross annual family income of no more than ₹8 lakh for the last financial year, an education loan from a scheduled commercial bank to fund study at IIMK, and bank-issued disbursement details when applying for second-year assistance. The page also says students must meet all listed criteria, remain free of institute disciplinary or misconduct findings, and disclose other grants or assistance. The Financial Aid Committee ranks applications using a financial score and decides the quantum of aid. Meeting the stated conditions therefore establishes eligibility to apply, not an assured full fee waiver.
IIMK’s 2024-25 Annual Report describes the scale of past institute support. It reports that 86 students received NBFA worth ₹4.62 crore in total, including 73 full-tuition and 13 partial-tuition awards. It also reports 58 merit scholarships of ₹25,000 each across PGP, PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM. These are completed results for that academic year, not the number, amount or distribution available to a future batch.
Central and state schemes use additional conditions
IIMK’s scholarship page lists central schemes for SC students, ST students and minority-community students. The page describes different conditions for each: examples include parental income thresholds, community or category status, or prior-examination marks. A government scheme’s presence on the institute page does not mean every IIMK student qualifies or that the same rules apply across schemes.
The page also lists state-supported scholarships, including a Maharashtra scheme tied to domicile or border-area status and the Maratha community, and a Tamil Nadu scheme for specified BC, MBC and DNC communities. These are narrower routes. Check whether your residence, domicile, community and programme meet the particular scheme’s rules before treating it as part of your funding plan.
Government scheme names and thresholds can change. IIMK’s list is a useful starting point, but applicants should verify the current notification and application steps with the responsible ministry, state authority or national scholarship portal. Use the threshold from the applicable notification and financial year, not a figure remembered from an older application.
International students and outside sponsors have separate terms
International applicants should use IIMK’s separate scholarship page rather than assuming the domestic student-affairs page applies to them. The international page describes merit-based tuition waivers for foreign nationals in PGP, PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM. For every 10 students, it lists three 50% and six 25% waivers for PGP, and one 50% plus two 25% waivers for each of PGP-Finance and PGP-LSM. Its selection weights are 50% GMAT/CAT performance, 30% IIMK interview performance and 20% socioeconomic background. The page says the form follows an offer letter, is shared by the International Relations Office, and is submitted with the seat-confirmation payment. These are the posted terms; confirm them with IIMK for the admission round in which you apply.
The domestic scholarship page also names private awards from IDFC FIRST Bank, Mirae Asset Foundation, Aditya Birla Group and OP Jindal. These are administered with sponsor-specific eligibility and selection processes. Treat the institute page as a directory, then read the current sponsor notice for the eligible colleges, application window, award value and continuation criteria. A private award shown on a page may have separate deadlines or selection steps outside IIMK’s own aid process.
IIMK’s international page states that a student cannot hold more than one scholarship or stipend in the same academic year and must return one if another award is received. The domestic page gives a similar disclosure instruction for multiple scholarships, grants or assistance. Before accepting two awards, ask the relevant IIMK office how the rule applies to your case.
A short scholarship application checklist
- Identify your exact programme, year of study and applicant category. Do not use the international fee-waiver route for a domestic application or assume a PGP award covers every IIMK programme.
- For NBFA, check the last-financial-year family-income limit, scheduled-bank loan requirement and the second-year loan-disbursement document rule. Ask the Financial Aid Committee or student-affairs office which form and evidence are required for your cohort.
- For a merit award, confirm the CGPA period, ranking method and award notification for your year. The posted page gives the basis and ratio but not a current award amount.
- For a government or outside scheme, verify the latest official notice, eligibility documents, deadline and whether it can be combined with IIMK support.
- Build a funding plan using only confirmed fee waivers or awards. Do not subtract a possible scholarship from the published tuition bill before an award is granted.
The 2024-25 report gives useful historical context, while the scholarship pages describe posted routes and conditions. For a current offer or award amount, rely on the notice for your own admission cycle and obtain written confirmation from IIMK or the named sponsor.
