Institute remission and listed scholarships
IIT Bhubaneswar’s 2025 undergraduate academic profile describes several distinct forms of support. It says eligible students whose parental gross annual income does not exceed ₹5 lakh may receive tuition-fee remission. Within that description, it identifies full remission for the stated income group below ₹1 lakh and two-thirds remission for the group between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh. The B.Tech fee schedule separately lists a 100% tuition-fee waiver for SC, ST and PwD students. Treat these as source-specific eligibility descriptions, not a promise that every incoming student qualifies or that the remission covers the complete semester bill. The published fee schedule separates tuition from hostel, mess advance, insurance, institute and one-time charges. Confirm the applicable fee and remission notice for your admission year, and ask which components are reduced before planning the amount you will need at joining.
The academic profile also names Government of India schemes for SC and ST students, students with disabilities, post-matric support and Ishan Uday, as well as state scholarship schemes. This is a list of scheme families the institute says it endorses, not a current award call or a guarantee that each scheme remains open to every IIT Bhubaneswar student. Central and state programmes can set their own domicile, category, income, course, academic-progress and application conditions. An applicant should use the notice issued by the responsible ministry or state portal for the relevant year, then confirm any institute certification or enrolment documents with the scholarship office. Do not assume that a scholarship title alone establishes eligibility or that an award can be combined with institute remission.
For a practical first check, compare your family’s documented gross income and category with the institute’s current remission terms, then review government and state programmes for your domicile and course. Ask whether the institute’s income measure, certificate format and deadline match the external scheme. Keep the fee schedule separate from the scholarship award: a waiver of tuition does not necessarily remove hostel charges, mess advances, insurance or one-time fees. The available institute profile is dated 2025 and does not set a 2027-28 application window, award amount or payment date. Obtain the cycle-specific notice before relying on a figure in a budget.
PM-Vidyalaxmi is a loan route, not a scholarship
PM-Vidyalaxmi is a government-backed education-loan route that may help reduce borrowing costs for eligible students. The Ministry of Education guidelines describe a collateral-free, guarantor-free loan for students admitted on their own merit to a quality higher education institution, with separate interest-support provisions. The principal remains a loan that must be repaid; an interest subsidy is not a grant for tuition and does not cancel the amount borrowed. The scheme’s published conditions also interact with other scholarship, fee-reimbursement and interest-support benefits, so applicants should read the complete rule before accepting more than one form of support.
The portal describes full interest subvention for eligible students from families with annual income up to ₹4.5 lakh on loans up to ₹10 lakh. The Ministry guidelines describe a 3% interest-subvention route for students with annual family income up to ₹8 lakh, on loan principal up to ₹10 lakh, during the moratorium period. They cap that 3% support at one lakh beneficiaries a year and set a selection method if applications exceed the cap. The Ministry’s guidelines distinguish the Central Sector Interest Subsidy route for qualifying technical or professional courses from PM-Vidyalaxmi’s 3% support. Those categories are not interchangeable: course type, institution status, income, admission route and other assistance can affect which rule applies. The scheme guidelines also say students receiving another Central or State government scholarship, another interest-subvention scheme or fee reimbursement are not eligible for PM-Vidyalaxmi benefits. Confirm the exact interaction before assuming that two benefits can be stacked.
Use the PM-Vidyalaxmi portal to register, search for the institution, complete its common education-loan application and select a participating bank. The portal says applications are routed to selected banks for processing and that banks conduct due diligence before sanction. The portal FAQ notes that banks set their own interest rates, so a bank advertisement or headline rate is not a guaranteed rate for an individual applicant. Check the current institution list, the course and admission route, the bank’s written sanction terms, applicable subvention conditions and the repayment schedule. Do not treat credit guarantees to lenders or interest support during the moratorium as cash paid to the student.
Documents and next steps
Start with the latest IIT Bhubaneswar notice for your programme and intake, rather than reusing a previous student’s form or an older scholarship notice. The institute identifies a Scholarship and Fellowship section within Academic Affairs. Its published staff directory lists the section email as [email protected]. Ask the office which remission application applies to your category, the current income-certificate format, any renewal conditions, and whether the award is applied directly to fees or reimbursed after payment. Keep written confirmation of deadlines and required records.
For an external scholarship, verify the issuing authority’s current scheme rules, eligible courses and institutions, the application window, required certificates, renewal conditions and payment process. For a state scheme, check the portal for the state that governs your eligibility; the institute’s 2025 profile lists examples from multiple states, which is a reminder that domicile can matter. For a loan, verify the bank’s interest rate, margin, moratorium, repayment obligations and whether your scholarship or fee remission affects scheme eligibility. Keep copies of submitted applications and acknowledgement numbers, and follow up through the portal and the responsible office if a document is returned or a payment is delayed.
The sources opened for this page establish the institute’s 2025 description of remission and the published national loan framework, but they do not establish a 2027-28 IIT Bhubaneswar scholarship calendar or current institute award amounts. Recheck the official notice before accepting an offer or budgeting around aid.
