IIT Guwahati does not use one common entrance test or one application deadline for every degree. The route depends on the programme: BTech applicants use JEE (Advanced) and JoSAA; BDes applicants apply through UCEED and the later BDes admission process; the Biomedical Science and Engineering BS has a separate IAT-based application; and postgraduate programmes each set their own exam, eligibility and selection steps. Before paying for an exam or application, match your intended degree to IIT Guwahati’s current Academic Affairs page, then follow the notice for that exact session. The institute’s live admissions site currently carries a December 2026 PhD call and links programme-specific routes, but its 2027-28 dates are not a single published calendar.
For BTech, start with the JEE (Advanced) eligibility and exam cycle, then use JoSAA for institute and programme choice filling. In the 2026 process, the JEE (Advanced) organisers state that registration and choice filling in JoSAA are mandatory for qualified candidates seeking an IIT seat. IIT Guwahati’s July 2026 joining instructions also required the relevant exam admit card, provisional seat-allotment letter and proof of seat-acceptance payment at document verification. A rank alone is not admission: candidates must complete JoSAA’s choice, acceptance, document and payment steps, then follow IITG’s reporting instructions. Check the current JEE and JoSAA notices for the next cycle; do not reuse a previous year’s choice-filling or reporting dates.
BDes follows a different route through UCEED. The UCEED 2027 announcement says candidates who passed Class XII in 2026 or are appearing in 2027, in any stream, may appear. The UCEED 2027 site lists registration from October 1 to October 31, 2026, the examination on January 17, 2027, results on March 6, 2027, BDes applications from March 15, and admission rounds beginning April 21. These are UCEED 2027 dates for the 2027 BDes admission process, not a JEE or BTech schedule. At the time checked, the regular registration deadline is close; applicants should use the official candidate portal and verify payment completion before the deadline. UCEED qualification is followed by a separate BDes programme application and seat-allocation process, so completing the exam registration alone does not secure an IIT Guwahati seat.
IIT Guwahati’s BMSE admission page also offered a four-year BS in Biomedical Science and Engineering (BMSE) through its School of Health Sciences and Technology. The latest detailed institute admission page opened for this review is for the 2026 intake: it required Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in Class XII, a minimum 75% aggregate in those four subjects, and qualification in IAT 2026. The published 2026 seat matrix totalled 20. That cycle’s application dates have passed, so use these as the latest published example, not as confirmed 2027-28 eligibility, intake or dates. The next action is to check IITG’s BMSE page for the next session’s notice before registering for IAT or assuming the same subject combination and seat count will continue.
A separate online option is IIT Guwahati’s BSc (Honours) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. It is delivered online through Coursera, with an optional four-week campus immersion, and has its own admission process; it is not the same as an on-campus BTech or the BMSE BS. The official online BSc page lists a January 2027 cohort, with applications closing October 31, 2026, and says applicants with at least 60% in Class XII may apply. Candidates eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) in any year receive direct admission under its stated rules; other applicants complete Mathematics Essentials and an online qualifier test. If you want a residential campus degree, check the programme type carefully before applying.
For MTech, IITG’s MTech eligibility page requires a relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree and a minimum CPI of 6.0 out of 10, or 60% marks, with qualifying study duration of at least six years after Class X. Regular-category candidates also need to qualify in the GATE paper accepted for their chosen specialisation. The page’s table shows why “GATE qualified” is not enough by itself: each MTech discipline maps to one or more permitted papers. For example, CSE lists Computer Science and Information Technology, while some specialisations accept multiple discipline-specific papers. Check the current table for the exact programme before selecting a GATE paper. Selection can include a department interview or written test; the July 2026 schedule shows the mode and dates varied by academic division. Treat that schedule as a previous session’s example, not a promise about 2027-28.
For MSc, IITG’s admissions menu identifies JAM as the route for several science programmes. MDes, MA, MS by Research and other master’s programmes have their own programme pages and may add a studio test, written test or interview. The institute’s 2026 master’s selection schedule records such variation across departments: it includes interviews for many MTech programmes, an offline studio test and interview for MDes, and an offline selection step for MA. Read the discipline’s current notice rather than assuming that every postgraduate applicant is ranked only by a national exam. Selection modalities, eligible exam papers, minimum marks and seat availability can differ across specialisations and admission categories.
MBA candidates should check the School of Business criteria separately. The programme page specifies a valid CAT score, at least 65% in high school, intermediate and bachelor’s degree, with a five-percentage-point relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates, and a minimum 60 percentile in CAT Quantitative Aptitude. The linked selection document describes a two-stage process: a composite score shortlists candidates for an online personal interview, and final selection combines CAT performance and interview performance. The stated weights are 60% for CAT and 40% for the interview at the final stage. This makes the sectional QA threshold a screening condition, not the entire selection formula. Check that the latest selection document remains applicable to the admission cycle you are targeting.
Doctoral applications are submitted through IITG’s application portal, but eligibility and selection are handled by the relevant department, school or centre. In the December 2026 PhD call, the portal opened October 8 and closes at 5:00 pm on October 28, 2026. Selection is scheduled during November 24 to December 5, with registration on January 4, 2027. The notice allows candidates to submit applications to more than one discipline under one login, but the application steps and fee must be repeated for each discipline. It lists a processing fee of ₹300 for female, transgender, SC, ST and PwD candidates and ₹600 for other candidates. Those dates and fees belong to the December 2026 call; they should not be presented as the 2027-28 calendar.
The PhD notice says each academic division may shortlist using GATE, NET, CEED, prior grades or other qualifications, then select through a written test, interview or both. The separate selection schedule shows the format varies by discipline and can be online, offline or hybrid. The seat matrix is likewise programme- and category-specific; it lists OPEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST columns and warns that the Institute may modify the matrix before allocation. Applicants should open the exact discipline row, scheme and category rather than treating a headline total as a guaranteed seat. For MTech/MDes/MS by Research graduates applying under the specified regular PhD category without GATE or CEED, the 2026 notice describes an Institute Assistantship Test route; eligibility is narrowly defined, so read the notice before relying on it.
First, identify the exact degree and session. Next, confirm the accepted exam and paper, qualifying-degree subjects and marks, category rules, and whether a department test or interview follows. Keep separate the national exam registration, IITG programme application and central counselling stages; one does not automatically complete the others. Download the current notice and seat matrix, note the deadline in the notice’s own time zone, and save proof of every completed application and payment. For allotted UG seats, use the official counselling instructions and IITG fresher page for the matching session’s reporting and document-verification list. For research and postgraduate programmes, monitor the application portal and the relevant division page because selection schedules can differ.
IITG’s current notices show why date checks matter: UCEED 2027 already has a published exam and BDes timeline, the online BSc lists its January 2027 cohort dates, and the detailed BMSE page still describes the 2026 cycle. The PhD December 2026 notice has its own deadline and seat matrix. There is no single “IIT Guwahati admission deadline” that safely covers all these routes. Use the current official programme page as the source of truth, and contact the Academic Affairs Section or programme office linked there if a qualification or category case is unclear.
