IIT Indore has different admission routes by degree, so start with the programme rather than a generic “IIT admission” checklist. For its Bachelor of Design (B.Des.), the current UCEED 2027 brochure names IIT Indore among seven participating institutes and requires a separate B.Des. application after the exam. For B.Tech and other technical undergraduate choices, the route is the JEE Advanced and JoSAA system for the relevant admission year. Postgraduate and doctoral admissions are department-specific: IIT Indore’s official admissions page lists M.Tech, M.Sc, MS and M.A. programmes, while the PhD office says applicants must check the target department’s minimum educational qualification and qualifying-exam requirements. Do not transfer a test rule or deadline from one degree to another.
Undergraduate routes: engineering and design are separate
For B.Tech and other technical undergraduate programmes, use the JEE Advanced and JoSAA notices for the actual admission session. JoSAA describes its 2026 process as the joint seat-allocation platform for participating institutes, including the IITs, with admissions for academic year 2026–27. That is a verified historical/current-cycle reference, not a schedule for 2027–28. The 2027 engineering examination and counselling rules must be checked when the authorities publish them. A past-year category cutoff, seat matrix or counselling date does not establish next year’s eligibility or likely offer.
Design has a more specific route. The UCEED 2027 brochure, released on October 1, 2026, lists IIT Indore’s School of Innovation among the seven B.Des. institutes using the exam and says candidates must separately apply through the joint B.Des. seat-allocation process. The brochure says the UCEED score is valid only for admission in academic year 2027–28. It also distinguishes qualifying the exam from receiving a seat: appearing or being on the rank list does not itself create an admission entitlement. In practical terms, a candidate must complete both the UCEED registration/examination steps and the subsequent B.Des. application.
The current UCEED 2027 notice gives a concrete timeline. Regular-fee registration closes October 31, 2026; late-fee registration closes November 6 at 5 pm. The exam is scheduled for January 17, 2027, from 9 am to noon, and results are scheduled for March 6. The B.Des. application process is listed to start March 15, 2027, with seat-allocation rounds beginning April 21; the brochure notes that round dates are tentative and updates will appear on the UCEED site. These dates are for UCEED 2027, not a standing annual timetable. At the time checked, the registration window was still open, so the immediate next step for a B.Des. applicant was to verify documents and complete the form on the official portal before the applicable deadline.
IIT Indore’s UCEED brochure describes its School of Innovation B.Des. as a four-year programme launched in 2025. The first year is foundation study; from year two students choose among four initial focus areas: Urban System Innovation, Educational Technologies, Healthcare Systems and Sustainable Energy Systems. The brochure says each semester includes a project component. This is a relatively new programme, so applicants should assess the actual curriculum and project structure rather than relying on older IIT Indore pages that may predate the degree. The same brochure says a two-year M.Des. and PhD programme were expected to start from 2027; “expected” is not confirmation that those programmes are open. Check the School’s current admission notice before treating either as an available application option.
Postgraduate admission: verify the department notice
The institute’s admissions and academics pages list M.Tech, M.Sc, MS and M.A. postgraduate routes, with dual-degree options also shown. Those labels do not imply one common application or one common qualifying examination. IIT Indore’s 2026-27 admissions page links GATE 2026, JAM 2026 and COAP 2026, and its academic page links a 2026 Autumn fee notice and AY 2026–27 tuition-remission notice. Those links show which official portals are relevant to current notices, but they do not establish that every programme accepts the same score or follows the same selection process.
Before applying, open the latest advertisement for the exact degree and department, then match four details: minimum educational qualification, accepted qualifying examination and validity, whether a central portal such as COAP or another institute portal is required, and any written test or interview stage. Save the notice version and application dates. A GATE score may be relevant to a particular M.Tech route, while a science master’s programme may use a different national examination or its own selection procedure. An MS by research and a taught M.Tech can differ in project expectations and selection even when a department uses similar subject knowledge. The official programme call, not a generic page, controls.
PhD admission: minimum qualifications are not the whole selection
IIT Indore’s PhD page says applicants should verify both Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQ) and Qualifying Examination (QE) for their chosen department. The institute lists GATE, JEST and CSIR-NET among examination requirements and describes a process involving an online application, application fee, at least two reference letters, a statement of purpose and a written test or interview. Department-specific calls can add or change the applicable requirements, so candidates should read the current advertisement before deciding that a particular degree or test is sufficient.
The live HSS call illustrates why the department notice matters. For its November 2026 selection round, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences gives an application deadline of November 4, shortlisted-candidate intimation on November 6 and a written examination/interview on November 23. It states that the round is for candidates with UGC/CSIR-NET-LS/JRF/PhD-only/GATE or an equivalent examination, and requires applicants to select a relevant research area and prepare a statement of purpose. The page sets different qualifying-degree thresholds by category: for UR/EWS/OBC-NCL it lists 60% aggregate, first class as defined by the university, or CPI 6.0/10; for SC/ST/PwD it lists 55%, first class, or CPI 5.5/10. This is a dated HSS call, not a universal PhD rule for every IIT Indore department or a 2027–28 promise.
A practical application checklist
- Identify the exact degree and department before choosing an examination.
- Use the programme’s latest official notice to verify degree, subject, category, test and score-validity rules.
- Apply separately to the required exam or counselling portal and the institute/programme portal where instructed.
- Record the notice date, deadline, fee and required documents; check for addenda before submission.
- After a result, follow the separate seat-allocation or institute-selection procedure. An exam score alone is not an offer.
For B.Des. applicants, the current official action is to monitor the UCEED 2027 site and complete the B.Des. application when its March 2027 window opens. For engineering applicants, wait for the 2027 JEE Advanced and JoSAA notices rather than reusing 2026 dates. For postgraduate and PhD applicants, the next useful step is to contact the relevant IIT Indore department only after reading its current call and checking the listed qualifying route. The admissions page provides separate UG, PG and PhD contacts, which helps route a question to the correct office.
