MBBS scholarships listed for 2026
MAHE’s 2026 Scholarships prospectus includes MBBS at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Mangalore in its Kalam–Pai, Freeship and Scholar scheme. It lists eight combined scholarships for the Mangalore MBBS campus, and says these scheme seats together are limited to 5% of the General-category intake. The document does not make all eight scholarships interchangeable: one among the campus allocation is set aside for Kalam–Pai, while the three schemes have different NEET All India Rank bands and benefits.
For MBBS, the prospectus gives a 2026 NEET AIR range of 1-500 for Kalam–Pai, 1-5,000 for Freeship and 5,001-10,000 for Scholar. It separately lists one Kalam–Pai scholarship for KMC Mangalore. These are eligibility and selection ranges in the published scheme, not a guarantee that every applicant in the range will receive an award. MAHE’s process selects by NEET AIR among candidates who meet the other conditions and complete admission formalities in the specified counselling round. The final allotment depends on the scheme rules and available campus seats.
Keep the campus in view: the prospectus lists KMC Manipal separately with 11 combined MBBS scholarships, while KMC Mangalore has eight. Do not apply Manipal’s number or a different MAHE programme’s scholarship table to the Mangalore MBBS course.
Eligibility and what each award covers
The prospectus states an academic threshold for all three MBBS schemes: 80% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class 12 from a recognised board. NEET 2026 AIR determines the listed rank bands. Meeting a rank and marks threshold does not alone complete the application; the scheme also ties selection to counselling, admission and reporting conditions.
Kalam–Pai is the most extensive award described. The prospectus specifies a 100% waiver of programme and hostel fees, a MAHE-allocated double-occupancy attached non-AC hostel room, and a ₹5,000 monthly sustenance allowance during the regular on-campus programme period, excluding internship. It also says a minimum ₹10,000 programme fee is retained, the student pays a minimum ₹10,000 programme fee in later years, and any hostel upgrade carries a differential charge. Food, books and academic materials remain the student’s responsibility. The page’s programme description confirms that MBBS includes a compulsory one-year rotating internship, so the stated allowance exclusion matters when comparing the headline benefit with the full course timeline.
Freeship waives 100% of the programme fee payable under the stated scheme, subject to the prospectus’s minimum payment provisions. The prospectus says ₹10,000 is retained as the minimum fee and that scholars must pay at least ₹10,000 towards programme fees in each subsequent year. It lists other costs such as accommodation, food and books as the student’s responsibility. Scholar provides a 50% waiver of programme fee payable; the prospectus likewise requires the full first-year fee to be paid at reporting before eligible excess is refunded and says the awardee covers other expenses including accommodation, food and books. Neither of these two descriptions promises a hostel-fee waiver.
Counselling, payment and continuation conditions
KMC Mangalore’s official MBBS page says applicants qualify NEET UG and proceed through online registration and choice filling on the MCC, KEA or JCECEB portal, followed by counselling, allotment and reporting. The 2026 scholarship prospectus adds scheme-specific conditions. For Kalam–Pai, Freeship and Scholar, MAHE says the award goes first to the highest-NEET-rank candidate who meets the conditions and completes reporting and admission formalities in the first round of DGHS/MCC counselling. Where a vacancy remains after the prescribed rounds, the document describes subsequent allocation by NEET AIR. It excludes candidates admitted through the Government category, including KEA counselling, from these three scholarships. Do not read the general MBBS counselling route as proof that every route is scholarship-eligible.
The cash-flow timing is important. The prospectus instructs candidates to pay the full first-year programme fee plus a refundable ₹10,000 caution deposit at reporting, then says the eligible excess is refunded after all counselling rounds, after verification and submission of the MAHE Scholarship Application Form 2026. This means an award described as a full fee waiver may still require substantial upfront funds. Confirm the current prospectus, exact category and refund process before relying on a net-fee calculation.
Continuation is conditional rather than automatic. For the three MBBS awards, the 2026 prospectus requires at least a 65% cumulative aggregate in university examinations before the next-year fee due date; failure, incomplete or detention grades make the student ineligible for that year’s scholarship. It also describes forfeiture for irregular attendance or misconduct. Its withdrawal terms can require repayment of benefits used if a scholar leaves after the counselling resignation deadline. Applicants should read those conditions alongside the award value, not only the advertised percentage.
Postgraduate medical awards and the next cycle
The same 2026 prospectus has a separate merit scholarship section for postgraduate medical, dental and super-speciality programmes. It explicitly includes MD at KMC Mangalore and says admission must be through MCC. Its listed MD fee-waiver rates vary by speciality: 100% for Anatomy and Biochemistry for the first three admitted candidates with the best NEET AIR, 100% for Physiology for the first two, 25% for Community Medicine, Hospital Administration and Palliative Medicine, 35% for Pharmacology with a separate top-rank 100% award for the first admitted candidate, and 50% for Microbiology with a separate top-rank 100% award for its first admitted candidate. These are speciality-specific 2026 terms, not one blanket MD discount. In that prospectus the DM and MCh super-speciality entries are for KMC Manipal, so they should not be presented as Mangalore awards. Check the current brochure for the programme and campus you are applying to.
The published MBBS conditions above are specifically from the 2026 admissions prospectus. On 6 November 2026, the KMC Mangalore programme page advises candidates to check the NEET 2027 brochure for final eligibility and says the 2027 fee structure will be updated shortly; the opened sources did not establish a 2027-28 scholarship prospectus or award allocation. Treat 2026 ranks, seat counts, benefits, payment timing and continuation conditions as historical guidance only. Before applying for 2027-28, check MAHE’s latest scholarship document and the applicable MCC, KEA or other counselling notices, then ask the Admissions Office to confirm the exact campus, programme, category, payment amount and refund schedule in writing.
