MDI Murshidabad’s official policy index lists both a Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme and a separate scholarship scheme for students from North-East India. That establishes that the institute maintains these policy categories, but it does not by itself announce who will receive aid in the 2027–29 PGDM intake. The current PGDM page says students are conditionally eligible for scholarships and directs them to the scholarship section for requirements. It does not set out a complete 2027–29 award count, scheme-specific criteria or application calendar. Treat the historical terms below as a guide to questions to verify, not as a promise of current support.
What the published schemes have covered
The institute’s North-East scholarship and freeship policy describes support for economically weaker, meritorious students from North-East states admitted to its two-year full-time PGDM. It envisaged five freeships covering 100% of tuition and ten scholarships covering 20% of tuition per year, starting in academic year 2021–22. These are the scheme’s stated design numbers, not confirmed seats for the 2027–29 batch. MDI’s scheme announcement gives a historical example: two students received a full tuition waiver in PGDM 2021–23.
The official policy index separately lists the TFW Scheme, dated 15 June 2022, and the special North-East scheme, dated 23 January 2021. Do not treat them as interchangeable awards. The available TFW recipient notice concerns PGDM 2023–25; it is not the current cycle’s policy text. The North-East policy has its own domicile, schooling and income conditions. Confirm the applicable scheme and current written rules with MDI before budgeting around either one.
Historical eligibility and selection rules
Under the North-East policy document, an applicant was required to be domiciled in a North-Eastern state, to have attended both Class 10 and Class 12 in the region, and to have at least 50% in each of those examinations. The document also states a minimum 50% in a three-year bachelor’s degree and a family annual income ceiling of ₹8 lakh. These are the original published criteria. The institute has not established in the materials reviewed that each threshold remains unchanged for 2027–29, so applicants should ask for the current policy version and the exact documents accepted as proof of domicile, schooling and income.
The same document describes awards as term-based and dependent on academic performance. It says an award may stop for a subsequent term if a student’s CGPA falls below 6, with restoration described at 6; it also describes higher scholarship levels for stronger performance bands, including 7.0–8.5 and above 8.5. The scheme’s selection process is described as beginning after the first 30 days of Term I and using CAT percentile. The timing, thresholds and selection mechanics are historical policy wording, not a confirmed 2027–29 calendar. Ask the admissions or programme office which current version governs and when a first-term decision would be made.
The old policy also says a student cannot receive this aid while holding another scholarship or stipend, and makes continuation dependent on academic and behavioural conduct. MDI’s PGDM 2023–25 fee-waiver notice likewise describes performance and conduct conditions, says other fees remain payable, and says assistance is withdrawn when a recipient holds other scholarship, stipend or financial support. These conditions come from an earlier cohort notice and scheme document; do not assume that every detail applies to the new batch until MDI confirms it in writing.
What past disclosures do and do not show
MDI’s mandatory disclosure dated 31 July 2025 records two 100% tuition freeship recipients and two 20% scholarship recipients for PGDM 2024–26. A separate notice lists three TFW tuition waivers for PGDM 2023–25, alongside three North-East freeships and one North-East scholarship for that cohort. These records show that awards were reported for named batches. They do not establish the number of awards available, the number of applicants, or the chance of selection in 2027–29. The figures should not be added across cohorts or schemes as though they were one annual quota.
The historical scheme refers to tuition, not a waiver of every cost of attendance. MDI’s current residential PGDM fee schedule lists ₹12,32,940 in tuition within a total of ₹16,45,940 for PGDM 2027–29; the remaining scheduled charges total ₹4,13,000, and the institute says charges are subject to revision. This arithmetic is useful for planning only. No 2027–29 award is confirmed by the sources reviewed, and an old tuition-only percentage cannot be applied to the current schedule without written confirmation of both eligibility and the amount covered. Hostel, food, deposits or other costs should not be assumed waived.
How applicants should verify support
For the 2027–29 intake, first ask MDI for the current TFW and North-East scheme documents, the number of awards in each category, the application route and deadline, current income and academic criteria, and whether applications are submitted with admission materials or after joining. Request confirmation of required certificates, whether the CAT percentile is still used, when selection occurs, what costs remain payable, and whether another scholarship, stipend or financial assistance makes an applicant ineligible. Keep the response with the fee offer and compare the final written award against the named batch and fee components before calculating net cost.
The official pages reviewed do not publish those cycle-specific details for 2027–29. MDI’s current PGDM admissions page identifies the 2027–29 batch and directs applicants to scholarship information, while the policy index names the two schemes; neither source resolves current award availability or application steps. Until MDI provides the applicable policy and an individual award decision, plan using the full published fee schedule and treat any scholarship as unconfirmed. The historic scheme wording is useful for preparing questions, but it is not evidence that an applicant will qualify or receive a particular amount.
