The official undergraduate catalogue lists a broad group of technical and science pathways. Its B.Tech list includes Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Civil, Chemical, Ceramic, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Instrumentation, Electrical, Food Process, Industrial Design, Mathematics and Computing, Mechanical, Metallurgical and Materials, Mining, and Engineering Physics. Separate entries include B.Arch, Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry, Life Science, Mathematics and Physics, and four B.Tech-M.Tech dual-degree tracks in Chemical, Industrial Ceramic, Metallurgical and Materials, and Mining Engineering.

This matters because a fee table applies to named awards and routes, not to the institute as a whole. The 2026-27 notice has separate B.Tech, dual-degree and Integrated M.Sc. sections. The totals in this article should not be copied to another programme unless the current official notice explicitly includes that award. For curriculum and course structure, use the catalogue’s syllabus links and the programme’s academic regulations rather than assuming two branches share identical requirements.

B.Tech and dual-degree charges in the 2026-27 notice

NIT Rourkela’s 2026-27 fee notice lists ₹1,36,500 for the first semester of B.Tech and ₹1,11,500 for the second. From the third through sixth semester the listed total is ₹1,11,500 each; the seventh semester is ₹1,14,500 because the schedule adds a souvenir fee, and the eighth is ₹1,11,500. The B.Tech dual-degree table lists the same first-year and later semester totals, with its own ten-semester structure. These are values in one dated notice, not a 2027-28 fee confirmation.

The first-semester total includes ₹62,500 tuition, ₹5,000 other fees, ₹2,000 each for student activity and medical fees, ₹5,000 hostel seat rent, ₹5,000 Hall Establishment Fee, and an approximate ₹30,000 mess advance. It also includes one-time admission fee ₹2,500, refundable-on-completion caution money ₹10,000, and a ₹12,500 Institute Emergency Fund deposit. Separate recurring and one-time charges help explain why the first-semester bill is higher than later semesters. The notice describes the mess amount as approximate, so actual food billing can differ.

Integrated M.Sc. uses a different tuition amount

The same 2026-27 fee notice gives Integrated M.Sc. totals of ₹81,500 in the first semester and ₹56,500 in the second. Later standard semester totals are ₹56,500 through semester eight; semester nine is ₹59,500 because the table includes a souvenir fee, and semester ten is ₹56,500. Its tuition is ₹7,500 per semester, rather than the ₹62,500 tuition listed in the B.Tech and dual-degree sections. The comparison shows why an institution-wide “semester fee” without programme and year is not a useful budget figure.

The Integrated M.Sc. schedule also includes one-time admission fee, caution money, Institute Emergency Fund deposit, hostel charges, Hall Establishment Fee and approximate mess advance. Check the PDF’s specific semester row and footnotes before adding costs. B.Arch, postgraduate and international admission routes may have their own tables and conditions; the 2026-27 schedule should not be generalized beyond the programmes it names.

Tuition relief and what it does not cover

For the 2026-27 B.Tech schedule, the institute states complete tuition exemption for SC, ST and PwD candidates and students from families with annual income below ₹1 lakh. It states that students with annual family income between ₹1 lakh and ₹5 lakh pay one-third of tuition, shown as ₹20,833. This is a tuition adjustment, not a waiver of every semester charge. Hostel seat rent, Hall Establishment Fee, medical and activity fees, mess advance and one-time deposits appear as separate items in the table.

A practical budget should separate tuition, recurring institute charges, residence costs, approximate food advance, and deposits that may be refundable or returned on completion. The notice marks caution money as refundable if the programme is completed and describes the Institute Emergency Fund as a one-time corpus-fund deposit. Do not assume both deposits follow the same return rule. Confirm the fee treatment, income certificate requirements and current application procedure with the institute’s academic office before choosing a payment amount.

Before paying: verify the current fee edition

Use the official notice that matches your programme, admission channel and intake year. The institute homepage displayed the 2026-27 JoSAA/CSAB/DASA fee announcement dated 14 July 2026, while the source reviewed here does not establish a 2027-28 schedule. If you are applying for the next intake, treat the 2026-27 table as a dated reference and wait for the notice that names your own year.

At payment time, confirm the semester total, any tuition concession, exact hostel or mess charges, the status of one-time deposits and the payment deadline in the current official notice. Make sure that the notice covers your degree and counselling route. Preserve the fee receipt and the notice version used for your calculation. These steps prevent common errors: comparing a first-semester bill with a later recurring bill, counting approximate mess advance as a fixed annual cost, assuming a tuition concession waives all other charges, or applying B.Tech rates to an award with a separate schedule.

When comparing offers from two campuses, line up the same semester and award first. A first-semester bill can include admission and refundable deposits that do not recur, while later semesters may still include hostel, hall and mess charges. Keep those categories separate in your own estimate.
