When the fee statement arrives, separate tuition from other institute charges, one-time deposits, examination or registration charges, hostel rent, mess advance and travel or personal costs. Check which items recur each semester, which are refundable, and which can change. Do not add a one-time refundable deposit to recurring tuition or mistake a mess advance for the full annual food cost. Save the fee notice and payment schedule that apply to your own admission year.

Tuition remission is a separate question from the sticker amount. For applicants comparing offers, calculate the amount due before enrolment and the recurring amount for a normal semester separately. If payment is adjusted against an amount already paid through counselling, use the institute’s actual balance-fee instruction rather than paying a duplicate estimate. Contact the relevant official office when the notice is unclear; retain the written clarification and receipts.

Hostel and mess costs: one dated example, not a current quote

NITA’s first-year hostel notice for the 2025-26 odd semester listed an initial total of ₹36,645 for first-year UG double occupancy. That total comprised ₹5,000 refundable caution money, ₹2,000 hostel admission fee, ₹6,200 hostel fee and ₹23,445 mess advance for the first semester. The notice described a separate payment sequence: the ₹7,000 initial amount after physical reporting, followed by ₹29,645 for UG double occupancy. This is a historical 2025-26 example for first-year UG students, not a 2027-28 quote, not tuition, and not an all-years hostel cost. Hostel placement is a separate process from academic admission. The 2025-26 notice instructed eligible students to pay through MIS, complete room allotment there, and report to the assigned hostel with payment receipts and the allotment letter. Current procedures, rooms, occupancy and charges may change. Before accepting a room, confirm the fee period, occupancy, what the hostel charge includes, mess advance and adjustment rules, refundable components, payment deadlines, room allotment method and whether any category-specific application is required. Ask about the process for students who arrive late or need accommodation support. If a notice provides a total, check whether it includes caution money and whether that amount is refundable, rather than comparing totals without matching components.
