Nikhil Institute of Engineering and Management (NIEM) in Mathura is a private college that’s been around since 2008, affiliated with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). It’s a name you’ll see pop up if you’re looking at engineering or management colleges in western Uttar Pradesh, especially given its location on the Delhi-Agra highway. The pitch is straightforward: low total course fees and a long list of recruiter names. But there’s a gap between that official story and the very limited, dated student feedback available online. It’s a college that seems to operate under the radar, with scarce recent reviews making it hard to get a current, on-the-ground sense of daily life. For students prioritizing cost and an AKTU degree, it’s an option. For those placing a premium on a vibrant, well-reviewed campus culture or guaranteed high-tier placements, the picture is less clear.

Courses and Academic Programs at Nikhil Institute of Engineering and Management

NIEM offers a standard set of programs you’d expect from a technical institute in the region. There are 11 courses in total, with the main draws being the undergraduate B.Tech and postgraduate MBA.

The B.Tech specializations are in Civil, Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology, and Mechanical Engineering. The college says its programs are industry-aligned. For Computer Science, the focus is listed as software development and IT skills. For Mechanical, it’s on design and manufacturing applications. That’s the standard curriculum talk. Intake for B.Tech is listed as "as per admissions rules," which typically means it follows the AKTU/UPCET sanctioned intake, though the exact number isn’t published. For MBA, there’s a clearer number: 120 seats, with specializations in Financial Management, HR, and IT.

Faculty numbers are a bit unclear in the data—one source says 107, another 65. There’s no available detail on PhD ratios or notable professors, which isn’t unusual for newer private colleges. The academic calendar and grading would follow the AKTU system. You can find more on the university’s structure at the AKTU official website.

NIEM Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is the section where you have to read between the lines. The college’s official claim is a 100% placement rate for its last batch. The list of recruiters is extensive, including major names like TCS, L&T, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Accenture, and Reliance, alongside many smaller IT and core engineering firms.

But here’s the critical context: there are no available figures for highest, average, or median packages. That’s a significant data gap. More importantly, the only specific student review on placements, dated back to 2016, directly contradicts the 100% claim. A B.Tech student from that time stated, "No company came to our college for placement as our college was new so no company came to our college for placement we got chance to appear in interviews in campus placement."

That’s a single, old data point, but it’s a red flag. It suggests the early years may have been a struggle. The current reality could be better—the college has been operating for over 15 years now. However, the complete absence of recent salary data or graduate testimonials about packages means you should treat the 100% figure with caution. The placement cell does organize summer internships, which is a positive. The verdict? The recruiter list looks good on paper, but the actual placement experience and outcomes for an average student remain an open question without more current, transparent data.

Fees and Financial Aid at NIEM

This is arguably NIEM’s strongest selling point. The total course fees are remarkably low compared to many private engineering colleges.

• B.Tech: The total fee for the entire 4-year program is approximately ₹2.45 to ₹2.8 lakhs. That works out to roughly ₹61,000 - ₹70,000 per year, which is very affordable.
• MBA: The total 2-year program fee is around ₹1.2 to ₹1.33 lakhs, or about ₹60,000-₹66,500 per year.
• Polytechnic: About ₹1.01 lakhs total.

Hostel and mess fees aren’t detailed, so that’s an additional cost to budget for.

The college does offer scholarships, which is a plus. For engineering students, it’s based on 12th marks: ₹15,000 annually for 60%, ₹20,000 for 65%, and ₹25,000 for 70% and above. MBA students can get similar amounts for marks over 65%. There’s also a 2% fee concession for female students, and concessions for state and international sports representatives. However, a 2016 review mentioned issues with scholarship disbursement, claiming the college management said scholarships "would not come." It’s impossible to know if this administrative issue persists, but it’s something to ask very specific questions about during the admission process.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admissions follow the standard dual-track system for private colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

For B.Tech, you need a valid score in either JEE Main or the state entrance exam, UPCET (formerly UPSEE). The college doesn’t publish cutoff ranks or percentiles, which suggests they likely fill seats through the UPCET counseling rounds and may have seats available even after. Always check the official UPCET counseling website for the latest seat matrices.

For MBA, they accept scores from UPCET, MAT, or CAT. Admissions are also given through a management quota or direct entries, which is common.

The selection process is a standard 7-step procedure: check eligibility, take the entrance exam, submit an application (with a fee), verify documents, wait for a merit list/counseling/interview, receive an offer, and then enroll. Applications open months before the July/August session start.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The campus is described as being in a pollution-free area along the highway. Infrastructure-wise, they highlight modern labs (4 are mentioned), a well-stocked library with 16,000 books and a reading room, and an auditorium. Sports facilities for cricket, volleyball, and table tennis are available, coordinated by a sports cell.

Hostels are separate for boys and girls, on-campus. The listed amenities are basic but essential: 24-hour mess, indoor/outdoor games, medical facilities, telephone, and round-the-clock internet. A canteen with "hygienic products at controlled prices" and medical facilities are also noted. Transport is mentioned as a facility, though details aren’t specified.

The description paints a picture of a functional, no-frills campus. Without recent student reviews on hostel quality, food, or social life, it’s hard to gauge the actual living experience. The location, 20km from Mathura city, implies a somewhat isolated setting, making the on-campus facilities and peer group all the more important.

Student Reviews: What NIEM Alumni Really Think

This is the biggest challenge in evaluating NIEM. There is a severe scarcity of recent, genuine student reviews on platforms like CollegeDunia, Shiksha, or Reddit. Most feedback traces back to 2015-2016.

From that limited, dated pool, two consistent complaints emerge:

1. Placement Reality: As noted, a 2016 review starkly contradicted placement claims, stating no companies visited.
2. Scholarship Issues: Another review from the same period alleged problems with scholarship disbursement.

There are no recurring recent positives or negatives about teaching quality, faculty interaction, management behavior, or campus culture. This lack of contemporary voice is a data point in itself. It could mean the college has a low profile online, or that student engagement on public forums is minimal. For a prospective student, it means you must rely heavily on a direct campus visit, conversations with current students if possible, and very clear questioning of the administration during the admission process.

Verdict: Is Nikhil Institute of Engineering and Management Worth It?

NIEM Mathura presents a classic trade-off. Its biggest advantage is cost. With total B.Tech fees under ₹3 lakhs and MBA under ₹1.5 lakhs, it’s an accessible option for students with tight budgets who want an AKTU-affiliated degree. The scholarship policy, if reliably executed, adds to this value proposition.

However, significant questions hover over the experience. The placement record, despite an impressive recruiter list, lacks transparent salary data and is shadowed by old negative reviews. The absence of recent student feedback makes it difficult to assess the actual academic environment, teaching quality, and campus life. The location is somewhat remote.

So, who is it for? NIEM could be a pragmatic choice for a cost-conscious student from the region who has cleared UPCET/JEE Main with a moderate score, is primarily focused on obtaining the degree, and is prepared to be proactive in seeking internships and placements largely through their own efforts. It’s probably not the best fit for someone prioritizing a proven track record of high placements, a vibrant and well-documented campus culture, or a college with a strong national reputation. The final step for any serious consideration must be an in-person visit to ask hard questions and form your own impression.
