Rewa Engineering College (REC) is a study in contrasts. Established in 1964 on a sprawling 250-acre campus in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, it’s a government-aided autonomous institution that promises a lot for a very low price tag. The annual B.Tech tuition is just INR 22,300. That’s a fraction of what private colleges charge. But the trade-off, as student reviews and official data suggest, is a placement scenario that’s challenging, with a 2023-24 UG placement rate of 43.99% and a median package of 4 LPA. For a local student looking for an affordable degree with time to prepare for government exams, it’s a viable option. For someone chasing high-flying corporate careers from campus, the picture is more complicated.

Courses and Academic Programs at Rewa Engineering College

REC offers a focused set of five B.E./B.Tech programs: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, and Computer Science Engineering. There are also part-time B.E. courses and M.Tech programs. The total intake is around 398 students, which keeps batches relatively small. Academically, the college follows the RGPV pattern with mid-semester and end-semester exams. A CGPA of 7.5 or above is needed to be eligible for campus placements—a rule that filters the pool.

The faculty gets mixed but generally positive remarks for being hardworking and qualified, with some professors holding degrees from IITs and NITs. However, a significant caveat is that about 80% of subject teachers are guest faculty. That can lead to inconsistency. Classes aren’t always regular, according to some students. On the infrastructure front, there are smart classrooms, a language lab, and a Centre of Excellence for Microsoft Technologies set up through an MOU. Labs are generally well-equipped, though some student comments point to a few in the Electrical department needing upkeep.

Rewa Engineering College Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is the section where official data and ground reality need a side-by-side look. The college’s official NIRF-reported median package for UG students in 2024 was 4 LPA. For PG, it was 5.5 LPA. The highest package for 2024 was 13 LPA in CSE. The overall placement percentage for the engineering stream in the latest season was 41.5% (UG was 43.99%).

Now, the student review consensus. It’s cautious. Many describe placements as “not good,” “average,” or “poor.” They report fewer companies visiting and packages often clustering in the 3.5 to 5.5 LPA range. The gap between the official 41.5% placement rate and the 30-70% range cited in reviews is where you find the uncertainty. Top recruiters include names like Capgemini, Infosys, TCS, L&T, and Mahindra, but the volume of offers isn’t high. A lot of students end up seeking government jobs or securing off-campus opportunities. The college’s low fee is its biggest cushion against these placement stats. For internships, they’re mandatory (three over the course of the degree), but the college offers minimal help—students largely find them on their own or through local firms.

Fees and Financial Aid at Rewa Engineering College

This is REC’s strongest card. The annual tuition for a B.Tech is just INR 22,300. The total four-year tuition cost is estimated between INR 1.49 and 1.99 lakhs. When you add hostel, it’s still incredibly affordable. For the 2025-26 academic year, total annual hostel and mess costs range from INR 35,000 for a triple-sharing room to INR 50,000 for a single.

Where the college truly shines for eligible students is in scholarships. Being a government institution, it’s a conduit for numerous state and central schemes. SC/ST students can receive scholarships covering fees and providing stipends (Rs. 32,000-40,000). OBC non-creamy layer students get around Rs. 28,000. There’s the MMVY scholarship for those with a JEE Main rank under 150,000 and good 12th-grade marks. Even economically weaker general category students can apply for the Vikramaditya Scholarship. Fee waivers exist for the top 5 students across branches. For many, these schemes can make the degree virtually free.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admission to the B.Tech programs is primarily through the state counseling process (MP BE Counselling) based on JEE Main scores. The college also has its own entrance test, RECPET, but the main channel is JEE Main. Cutoffs aren’t sky-high, which aligns with its positioning. For CSE, unverified data suggests a cutoff around the 82 percentile for general category students, and significantly lower for SC/ST candidates. For M.Tech, a GATE rank under 100 is cited for CSE. The selection is strictly merit-based through centralized counseling; there’s no management or NRI quota. Application windows follow the MP counseling calendar, with rounds typically running from July through September.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The 250-acre campus is frequently described as beautiful, calm, and green—a major plus. Infrastructure is a mix. The central library has nearly 75,000 books and an e-library, though some students complain about new books being unavailable. Sports facilities are ample: cricket, football, volleyball fields, and a gym. There’s a bank and post office on campus. Wi-Fi is reported in the academic building, but its availability in hostels is inconsistently reported.

Hostels are where reviews diverge more sharply. There are two each for boys and girls (the girls' hostels may be off-campus). Rooms are non-AC with basic furniture. The common complaints are about outdated infrastructure, intermittent water and electricity, and basic amenities. Food quality in the mess gets mixed reviews, though it’s generally considered hygienic. Ragging has been a concern in the past. Social life is active with annual fests like ‘Arrambh’ and ‘Aagaz,’ and clubs for design, sports, and tech.

Student Reviews: What Rewa Engineering College Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing the chatter from review sites and forums paints a clear, dual-natured picture. The overwhelming positive is the cost. “Low fees” is the constant refrain, making it a safe bet for students from the region who can’t or don’t want to spend lakhs elsewhere. The large, peaceful campus and generally decent faculty are also praised. It’s seen as a good place if you’re self-motivated, especially for preparing for UPSC or other government exams alongside your degree.

The negatives are equally consistent. Placements top the list, with widespread sentiment that they are weak and you shouldn’t count on a campus job. The reliance on guest faculty (80%) leads to irregular classes and sometimes insufficient academic support. Hostel conditions are often described as sub-par. There’s a feeling among some that you get what you pay for—the education and infrastructure quality can feel limited. The value proposition entirely depends on your goals: it’s high value for a budget-conscious, exam-focused student, and poor value for someone prioritizing a corporate launchpad.

Verdict: Is Rewa Engineering College Worth It?

Rewa Engineering College is a very specific kind of institution. It’s not for everyone. If you are a student from Madhya Pradesh or the surrounding region, with limited financial means, and your primary goal is to obtain an accredited engineering degree at the lowest possible cost while having time and space to prepare for competitive government exams (GATE, UPSC, SSC), then REC makes solid, pragmatic sense. The scholarships can make it almost free, and the pressure is relatively low.

However, if your main ambition is to secure a high-paying software or core engineering job directly from campus placements, you’ll likely be disappointed. The placement record is modest, and you’d be relying heavily on your own off-campus efforts. The infrastructure, while decent in parts, isn’t luxurious. Think of REC less as a destination for corporate recruitment and more as an affordable, spacious platform for a degree that serves as a stepping stone. For the right student with aligned expectations, it’s a worthwhile option. For others, it might feel like a compromise.
