School Qualification
The integrated five-year course is designed for applicants with 10+2 or an equivalent school qualification. The Bar Council of India’s educational-criteria guidance describes +2 following Class 10 as the basic academic route for the five-year integrated course. It also discusses a minimum-percentage framework, including 45% for general applicants, 42% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST as stated on its public page. Universities and tests may phrase categories and aggregate calculations differently, so treat the BCI page as the regulatory context and the current institution bulletin as the operational rule. See BCI educational criteria.
Applicants from arts, commerce, science and other recognised school streams can consider law; the BCI criteria do not prescribe a universal Class 12 subject combination for the integrated course. A university may still define accepted equivalences, board documentation, category requirements or how it calculates aggregate marks. Read those details before paying an application fee.
Test And Category Conditions
Entrance-test eligibility and university eligibility are related but not identical. CLAT 2027 states 10+2 with 45% generally and 40% for SC/ST/PwD, no upper age limit for the UG test, and allows candidates appearing in March or April 2027 to apply subject to proof of passing at admission. Those conditions belong to CLAT 2027; a university may set additional document or category rules. Review the test notice and each selected university’s brochure. Do not assume that a CLAT eligibility result establishes eligibility at every participating or affiliated institution.
Reservation, domicile and special-category seats require evidence in the form and by the authority specified by the university. CLAT’s instructions direct applicants to each institution’s reservation policy. Keep marksheets, category or domicile certificates, equivalence papers and identity records consistent. Foreign-national and NRI routes may have separate applications and conditions. If results are pending, confirm the date by which the university requires proof; provisional test eligibility does not waive the final school qualification.
Separate Law Entry Routes
The three-year LL.B. is a graduate-entry course and usually requires a completed bachelor’s degree, subject to the university’s exact regulations. It is not a shorter BA LL.B. track and does not generally allow a student to transfer years from the integrated course. The LL.M. is postgraduate study for law graduates meeting the programme’s entry rules. NLSIU publishes separate pages for its five-year BA LL.B. and three-year LL.B., illustrating the distinction. Compare each course’s official entry requirements and professional recognition rather than relying on similar degree names.
Calculate Marks Carefully
Before applying, identify which marks the university uses: overall aggregate, best-of subjects, a particular set of subjects, or a recognised equivalent grade conversion. Do not assume that the percentage printed on a marksheet matches the admissions calculation. If the board reports grades, ask whether the university needs a board-issued equivalence or conversion certificate. Applicants with compartment, improvement or supplementary results should check the exact rule about which result is considered and by what date it must be submitted. The accepted exam may be a board examination, but the university’s definition of an equivalent qualification remains controlling.
The BCI educational-criteria page explains the minimum percentage framework it may stipulate, while CLAT’s current page states its own test eligibility. These documents answer related but not identical questions. The CLAT rule sets a condition to appear for the test; an institution determines final admission eligibility and documents. If the two notices use different category terms or percentages, do not merge them into a single national threshold. Contact the admission authority and preserve its written clarification.
Verify Qualification Equivalence
Candidates who studied through an open, distance or correspondence route should verify that their underlying school qualification and examination board meet the applicable recognition rules. BCI’s educational criteria discusses such pathways, but the candidate must still satisfy the basic sequence and university conditions. Applicants with an international school credential should check the accepted equivalence, subject mapping, grade conversion, translation and authentication requirements before the application closes. A generic “equivalent” label on a third-party website is not enough to establish acceptance.
Keep original marksheets, pass certificates, migration or transfer certificates, identity documents and category records available for counselling. Check name spelling, date of birth and parent details across records. If a document is pending, determine whether a provisional application is permitted and the final submission date. Some institutions allow applicants awaiting board results to sit an entrance test, but admission remains conditional on proof of passing with the required marks. The CLAT 2027 eligibility page states this conditional rule for that cycle; each university’s admission instructions determine its own verification procedure.
Category And Domicile Evidence
Reservation and domicile rules are not a single pan-India checklist. Universities specify eligible categories, certificate authorities, formats, issue dates, non-creamy-layer conditions, state residence rules and whether a seat is horizontal or vertical. A candidate who selects a category in the exam form may still need to register separately with the university and upload its required evidence. Missing or outdated documents can change the category under which an application is considered.
Create a document checklist from each institution’s brochure. Include the certificate name, issuing authority, validity period, upload format and physical verification requirement. If applying under a disability, economically weaker section, NRI or domicile category, check the precise definition and supporting records rather than relying on a coaching-site summary. The Consortium directs applicants to individual university policies for reservation and category details, so a general CLAT page should not be treated as a complete seat-allocation rule.
