There is no single BHM admission test
BHM admission is organised by the institution or its awarding university. The official examples here show different routes: Jamia Millia Islamia’s course page links applicants to its admission procedure, while M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) says candidates are selected on their RUAS Admission Test performance if they also meet the programme’s eligibility criteria. These named processes cannot be combined into a nationwide BHM test or selection formula. Check the current admission policy for the exact institution and cohort.
The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology’s NCHM JEE is associated with a separate credential, the B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration offered by NCHMCT and recognised by Jawaharlal Nehru University. NCHMCT describes that course as a three-year, six-semester programme with an optional fourth year under its stated structure. Applicants should use the NCHMCT route only when applying to that programme and its participating institutes. Similar hospitality subjects do not make B.Sc. HHA and BHM interchangeable.
For the intended BHM, verify whether admission uses marks, an entrance test, an interview or a combination. A test may be administered centrally by a university or directly by the institution. A separate application may be needed for the college even where an exam registration exists. The current prospectus should state which step controls selection.

JMI identifies its programme as a self-financed BHM and directs applicants to the admission procedure through its examination portal. Use the current session prospectus and portal notice to confirm form dates, any test or selection components, required documents and how the final list is prepared. The course page alone does not provide enough detail to infer the full current selection process.
RUAS’s admissions page describes an undergraduate selection rule: a merit list is released and candidates are selected based on RUAS AT performance, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria. The page outlines online application steps and lists a Rs. 2,000 application fee. That charge is for applying, not tuition. Applicants should check the current RUAS policy for the test schedule, merit-list publication, seat-allotment protocol, document verification, offer acceptance and payment deadlines. A RUAS procedure should not be assumed at JMI or a Bengaluru University-affiliated college.
Treat the test and the later selection steps as separate. Confirm whether the score creates a merit rank, whether counselling is required and whether an offer must be accepted within a fixed period. Ask what happens if a preferred department or campus fills. These details affect how many applications and deadlines you need to manage.
A practical application sequence
First, match the programme name and campus on the official portal. Check the minimum qualification and any subject or marks rules before beginning the form. Second, identify every required step: application registration, entrance test, counselling or interview, document verification and fee payment. Some institutions combine stages; others require separate registrations. Third, save the application number, receipt and submitted form, and monitor the institution’s notice board for updates. When a dated official notice is available, use it to resolve calendar changes.
For an entrance-based route, confirm whether the test is mandatory, how its score affects selection and whether a separate college application is required. RUAS states that its candidates are chosen based on RUAS AT performance subject to eligibility, and references seat allocation under its admission policy. Applicants should read that policy for the applicable year. For JMI, follow the exact instructions in the current prospectus and portal. Neither example establishes a common BHM formula.
Before accepting an offer, verify the programme title, awarding body, campus, total fees, refund terms and the date by which a seat must be confirmed. Keep copies of marksheets and any equivalence or category documents requested. If an offer message conflicts with a published policy, seek clarification in writing before paying. Store the final offer and fee schedule so later questions about admission terms have a clear reference.
Keep the BHM and B.Sc. HHA routes separate
NCHMCT states that its B.Sc. Hospitality and Hotel Administration programme is recognised by JNU and centrally regulated academically by NCHMCT. Its page describes practical learning in food production, food and beverage service, front-office operations and housekeeping, alongside management subjects. Those details help explain the separate NCHMCT credential. They do not prove that a BHM uses NCHM JEE, follows the same duration or has the same awarding arrangement.
If you are considering both credentials, compare degree name, awarding body, campus list, duration, entry rules, assessment, practical training, full cost and admission route in parallel. Verify whether the institution advertises BHM or B.Sc. HHA for the exact intake; abbreviations in search results can be ambiguous. This avoids preparing for one admission process while the intended institution uses another. The current notice from the institution running the programme is the decisive document.
