BPT fees in India: compare the official schedule, not a headline
There is no single national fee for a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. The amount depends on university and college, academic session, quota or funding category, payment schedule and charges included. A course-level average cannot tell an applicant what a specific institution will bill, and two published “total fee” figures may include different items.
Dated official examples
Gauhati University’s 2026–27 fee schedule lists ₹3,90,000 as the total across its BPT four-year table. The table itemizes admission, registration, tuition, library and IT service, development, student activity, caution, electricity and examination charges. Treat that as a schedule for that university and the course format shown; ask whether the new five-year curriculum and internship change any charge for the admitted cohort. IIS University Jaipur’s 2026–27 page presents BPT fee items separately: first installment ₹90,900, refundable security ₹2,000 and other fees ₹17,100; later-year rows list installment and other-fee entries separately. Read the university’s own table to understand when each amount is due. These figures are not comparable to a four-year grand total without aligning the same years and components. These examples are not a national average, a promise another college will charge similarly, or future-cycle rates. Fees can change, and different admission categories can follow different schedules.
Build a like-for-like cost sheet
For each shortlisted institution, record the session and admission category, tuition per year or semester, one-time admission and registration charges, examinations, laboratory or clinical charges, uniform and equipment, refundable deposits, hostel and mess, transport to clinical sites and internship-related costs. Note whether the stated total includes all years, what is refundable, and which charges may rise. Keep the official notice and verify when it was issued.
Ask admissions to confirm the total scheduled payment for your batch, whether fees apply during internship, whether clinical travel is included, and what happens if a student repeats a year or withdraws. Do not treat a scholarship as guaranteed until eligibility, renewal criteria and net payable amounts are documented.
The BPT row has no verified generic tuition amount. The maintained tuition field is cycle-scoped and requires an official course-level value. It cannot accurately store examples from different universities as if they were one BPT price. This page offers a method and dated examples; applicants should compare the exact institution’s current schedule.
Compare totals only when their basis matches
The two official examples cited above use different presentation formats, so they should not be compared as though each were a complete like-for-like invoice. Gauhati University’s 2026–27 table lists a BPT total across a four-year schedule. IIS Jaipur presents an installment together with separate refundable security and other fee amounts. Before comparing either figure with another college, verify the exact line items, year coverage, seat category, campus, refund conditions and whether the internship year is included. A first installment is not the full course cost, and a refundable deposit should not be treated as tuition.
Build a cost sheet with separate columns for academic year, charge name, amount, frequency, due date, refundability and source document. Include tuition, admission or registration charges, university/examination charges, laboratory or clinical charges, uniforms, books, travel, hostel and mess. Add one-time and recurring expenses separately. If a fee table bundles items, preserve its label and do not invent a split. Ask the accounts office to confirm whether the published amount can be revised by a government or university order.
Estimate the whole commitment cautiously
A four-year fee schedule may not cover every cost associated with a pathway that includes internship. Verify whether the institution charges tuition, examination fees, transport or other amounts during internship and whether a stipend is offered. Do not assume stipend availability, amount or continuity without a current written policy. Likewise, do not multiply one annual figure across all years if the source says fees increase by year or leaves later years unspecified. If future-year amounts are not published, show them as unknown in a personal budget rather than extrapolating.
Add living costs only from a realistic plan for the campus: hostel eligibility, mess rates, commuting distance and clinical placement locations can alter the budget. These are not part of the official course fee unless the fee schedule says so. Ask about deposit refunds and the documented withdrawal timeline. A counselling deposit and a college admission deposit may be separate obligations, each with its own rule.
Questions to put to the finance office
Request the current fee order for the exact BPT cohort and seat type. Ask which charges are payable at admission, annually, by semester or at examination; whether the published total includes university fees; what charges apply during internship; which deposits are refundable and by when; and what happens if a student withdraws after reporting. Ask for a receipt for every payment and confirm the official payment portal or account details independently.
If an office gives a verbal estimate that differs from the published schedule, ask for a written clarification before committing. Save both the schedule and reply with their dates. Do not rely on an aggregator’s national fee range to budget for a specific seat: the cited official examples are deliberately institution- and session-bound, and the course-level aggregate does not identify a prospective student’s payable amount.
