Map the process for one university at a time
MHA admission in India does not follow one national entrance examination or counselling system. A university may use a management test, a sector-specific entrance examination, an interview, an academic merit list or a combination. The route may differ between regular and executive programmes at the same university. Confirm the exact programme name and intake year before preparing, because a search result for “hospital administration” may refer to a physician’s MD rather than an MHA.
TISS Mumbai offers a useful example of a multi-stage route, but only for the cycle and institution named in its notice. Its 2026–27 MHA selection document says CAT carries 95% weight and academic diversity 5% for shortlisting to the online assessment. The published overall CAT percentile thresholds are 60 for General/KM/AF/EWS, 54 for NC-OBC and 45 for SC/ST. Final merit uses CAT at 80% and online assessment at 20%, split into ERT (10%) and OPI (10%). The same page reserves the right to modify parameters. These figures describe TISS’s 2026–27 process only; they are not an MHA-wide cutoff or a prediction for 2027–28. (TISS selection criteria)
Other programmes can use different selection methods. Amrita’s MHA page states selection by interview. ICARE Haldia lists admission through JEMAS-PG conducted by WBJEEB. The programmes differ by university and their pages do not establish an interchangeable route. (Amrita MHA; ICARE Haldia) For each application, record the test name, accepted score year, registration deadline, programme-specific paper or code, interview format, weightings, reservation policy, counselling body and final document deadline from the live notice.
Sequence the application steps
First check eligibility and the programme mode. A regular course may accept recent graduates from specified disciplines, while an executive route may require several years of relevant work. Then identify the application portal and any separate exam registration. Some universities require an entrance application before the programme application; others use a common portal. Missing one registration can invalidate an otherwise complete application.
Prepare transcripts and documents early. Common items to verify include degree or provisional certificate, semester mark sheets, identity and category records, a current photograph, test registration and score, experience evidence if needed, and proof of completion of required internships or professional registration. This list is a planning aid rather than a universal checklist. Follow the exact portal instructions and keep the receipt, submitted form and a copy of each uploaded file.
Before paying, confirm the application fee, refund policy, category selection and whether any test score can be updated later. Check that the name, date of birth and qualification details match official records. If the portal allows a correction window, note its dates from the current notice rather than relying on a previous year’s schedule. Save the application number and take a dated copy of the final submitted form.
Prepare for tests and assessments without assuming a syllabus
A CAT-based route requires planning for that examination’s registration, test date, score reporting and any programme-specific shortlist rules. A state entrance test such as JEMAS-PG has its own subject scope, eligibility and schedule. An interview route requires a different preparation strategy. Do not pay for a test or select papers based only on general MHA advice; verify that the university accepts the relevant test in the year of admission.
If a programme includes an online assessment, ask what competencies it evaluates and how it is conducted. TISS’s 2026–27 notice identifies an ERT and an OPI in its final selection weighting. That tells applicants these stages matter, but preparation should remain authentic: be ready to explain your academic background, interest in hospital systems, examples of teamwork or service work, and how you reason through an operational problem. Avoid memorised claims about healthcare “leadership” that do not reflect your experience.
Understand merit, reservation and counselling
Selection can combine entrance scores with interviews, academic background, experience, category rules and seat availability. A published minimum percentile for shortlisting is not a promised admission cutoff. It only describes a threshold for the next stage under the specified process. Final admission may depend on the weighted score, merit list, reservation rules, preferences, waitlist movement and acceptance deadlines.
Read the rules for document verification and offer acceptance. If a degree certificate is pending, determine what provisional evidence is accepted and by when the final certificate is due. For reserved seats, confirm the required certificate format and verification stage. After an offer, check the fee payment schedule, withdrawal/refund rules, hostel availability and reporting instructions before committing. Keep written records of official clarifications.
Watch for similarly named medical programmes
Hospital Administration may also be the name of a medical postgraduate speciality. The MAHE/Kasturba Medical College page retrieved for a hospital-administration search describes an MD, requires an MBBS degree and medical registration, and refers to NEET-PG 2026 and medical counselling. That is not the same admissions route as an MHA open to graduates from other disciplines. (MD Hospital Administration) Verify the degree abbreviation, department, eligibility and regulator before beginning an application.
A cycle-specific checklist
Use the latest official notice for the exact intake and campus. Confirm: whether the programme is regular or executive; the required bachelor’s degree and minimum marks; final-year conditions; entrance-test name and score year; subject paper or code; shortlist threshold; assessment/interview weight; category rules; application and counselling dates; original documents; fee schedule; internship requirements; and contact details for unresolved questions. No 2027–28 MHA notice was verified in this source set. Treat TISS 2026–27 figures as historical/current-cycle examples and check the next notice when published.
