Start with the exact programme and applicant category
For a Master of Hospital Administration, eligibility is not a single national formula. Each university sets the accepted prior qualification, minimum marks, category relaxation, recognition rules, final-year conditions and any work-experience requirement. A general course listing can help you identify likely options, but it cannot decide whether you qualify for a particular campus. Read the current prospectus and programme-specific notice before paying an application fee.
The examples in current institutional sources vary. KIIT School of Public Health lists graduates from medicine, AYUSH, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary science, physiotherapy, allied health, technology, computer applications, hospital administration, public health, business, law, science, arts, commerce and other disciplines. Its page sets a 50% aggregate threshold and states that the institution must be recognised and the medium of instruction English. That is KIIT’s stated rule on a page dated 15 November 2023, not a rule for every MHA. (KIIT eligibility) MGUMST’s 2026 booklet says any bachelor’s degree is accepted, with listed thresholds of 50% for general, 45% for Gen-PH and 40% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/MBCNCL applicants. It applies to that university’s programme and booklet. (MGUMST MHA Information Booklet 2026)
TISS Mumbai’s 2026–27 MHA criteria describe a different requirement: a successfully completed bachelor’s or master’s degree of minimum three or four years, or an equivalent pattern meeting its stated formal-education requirements and awarded by a UGC-recognised university. Applicants still studying in three-year degrees had to pass subjects through semester four at application; those in four-year degrees had to pass through semester six. The document also requires completion of final-year requirements, including examinations and internships, before final admission. These conditions belong to TISS’s 2026–27 MHA admission process. (TISS selection criteria) They should not be copied into a future cycle or another university’s form.
Check the marks rule exactly
A stated minimum percentage may be calculated differently by institutions. Verify whether the threshold applies to aggregate marks across all years, the last qualifying degree, specific subjects or a prescribed grading conversion. Check whether practical, supplementary or improvement marks count and whether an equivalent CGPA needs a particular conversion certificate. If you have a foreign qualification, an incomplete transcript or a result pending, ask the admissions office which document and deadline apply.
Do not assume that category relaxations are universal. The MGUMST 2026 booklet names specific groups and percentages for its course; other institutions may define categories differently or require a particular certificate authority, format and validity period. TISS’s criteria describe category rules for selection separately from degree eligibility. Read both the eligibility section and the seat-allocation or reservation policy, and check whether you must produce proof at application, assessment, counselling or enrolment. Keep a copy of the exact notice used.
Health sciences may be preferred, required or simply one accepted route
Some programmes are open to graduates from many backgrounds, while others focus on health and allied-health qualifications. A course page may say “any graduate”, list preferred fields, or state required degrees. Those phrases are not equivalent. “Preferred” does not automatically mean “required”; a list of accepted fields may be exhaustive. If your degree is interdisciplinary or has an unfamiliar name, send the admissions office your exact award title and awarding university and request written confirmation.
For example, MGUMST’s 2026 booklet presents an any-bachelor-degree rule with category marks. KIIT’s page lists multiple fields and also includes an equivalent-degree provision. IIHMR Jaipur’s 2026–28 executive MHA requires a graduate degree with its stated marks threshold plus at least three years of full-time work in public health, hospital, healthcare, CSR, ESG or a related field. That work-experience requirement is tied to an executive programme and should not be attributed to regular MHA courses. (IIHMR Executive MHA)
Final-year applicants and experience conditions
If you are still completing your degree, check whether the programme lets you apply provisionally and when the final degree certificate, mark sheet, internship completion or registration must be submitted. TISS’s 2026–27 notice sets semester-pass conditions at application and requires successful completion of all final-year requirements before admission is finalised. Another university may use a different cut-off date or may not accept candidates awaiting results. Do not treat “final-year students may apply” on one campus’s page as a common MHA provision.
Work experience can influence admission in different ways. It may be mandatory for an executive course, preferred in a tie, considered during an interview or irrelevant to the published process. KIIT says relevant experience may be preferred in a tie; IIHMR’s executive route makes experience a formal requirement. Check how experience is defined, whether internships count, whether it must be full-time and which employer documents must be provided.
A document check before submission
Build your checklist from the official notice: degree certificate or provisional certificate, all semester/year mark sheets, CGPA conversion if applicable, identity records, category or disability documents, experience certificates where required, entrance-test registration and score records, and proof of internship or registration if specified. Ensure names and dates match across the application and academic records. If there is a discrepancy, ask how to document it before the correction window closes.
Finally, distinguish eligibility from selection. Meeting the minimum qualification only permits consideration under that programme’s process. A test score, interview, merit list, category allocation, seat availability and preference order may determine who receives an offer. Verify the current cycle’s complete process after confirming you meet the entry requirements. If the institution has not yet published a notice for your target year, do not infer future rules from a previous year’s PDF.
