HTET 2026 is happening on 13 and 14 June 2026. If you are reading this on 14 June, you may be sitting for the Level‑1 PRT or Level‑2 TGT paper this afternoon - or preparing for the next notification cycle. Either way, the syllabus blueprint released by the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) for this year’s examination does not change dramatically between cycles. The version published with the HTET 2026 information bulletin is your most reliable guide for the current test and the next scheduled examination likely in November 2026.
BSEH, Bhiwani, conducts the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test once a year - and has announced that a second session may follow in October‑November 2026 to fulfil court‑mandated annual testing requirements. Over 2.5 lakh candidates are expected for the June 2026 session, which is being conducted through a public sector undertaking agency for the first time.

HTET certifies eligibility for three distinct teaching posts. Applying for the wrong level makes your candidature invalid even if you clear the exam.
| Level | Post | Classes you can teach | Age group focus | Minimum qualification (broad) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Primary Teacher (PRT) | I to V | 6‑11 years | Senior Secondary (10+2) with 50% marks and a 2‑year D.El.Ed (or B.El.Ed); or Graduation with D.El.Ed. |
| Level 2 | Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) | VI to VIII | 11‑16 years | Graduation in the concerned subject with 50% marks and B.Ed (or D.El.Ed in some cases). |
| Level 3 | Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) | IX to XII | 14‑17 years | Post‑Graduation in the concerned subject with 50% marks and B.Ed. |
There is no age limit for HTET. Candidates who are in the final year of their professional degree can also apply, but their candidature will be considered only after they acquire the minimum qualification.
All three levels have 150 multiple‑choice questions carrying 1 mark each. There is no negative marking. The paper is printed in both Hindi and English; language sections appear in the respective script.

For TGT, subject‑specific questions are set at the difficulty level of Classes VI‑X, with some linkages up to Senior Secondary. For PGT, the standard is Classes IX‑XII, extending to Post‑Graduation level in the concerned subject.
This section tests your understanding of how children learn and develop, and how a teacher should facilitate that. The age‑group focus shifts with the level: PRT (6‑11 years), TGT (11‑16 years), PGT (14‑17 years). The topics, however, remain largely the same.
Key areas:
Both verbal and non‑verbal reasoning. Topics include:
This is the defining section that separates HTET from CTET. Questions are entirely Haryana‑specific.
Static Haryana GK questions often ask: “Haryana’s largest district by area?” (Sirsa), “Formation date?” (1 November 1966), “First Chief Minister?” (Bhagwat Dayal Sharma). Current affairs from the last 6‑12 months before the exam are heavily tested, so relying on a year‑old book is risky. Track government portals and leading Haryana newspapers monthly.
Content:
Pedagogy: concept and scope of EVS, integrated EVS, environmental education, approaches to presenting concepts, activities, experimentation, discussion, CCE, teaching aids.
This is the heaviest section. You choose one subject from the official list. The syllabus follows the Haryana school education department’s curriculum.
TGT concerned subjects: Science, Mathematics, Music, Hindi, English, Home Science, Sanskrit, Social Studies, Art, Punjabi, Physical Education, Urdu.
PGT concerned subjects: Hindi, Biology, Political Science, Home Science, Chemistry, English, Sociology, Mathematics, Urdu, Psychology, Commerce, Computer Science, Punjabi, Economics, Physical Education, History, Music, Physics, Sanskrit, Geography, Fine Arts.
TGT/PGT Science: Chemistry (sorting materials, acids‑bases‑salts, metals and non‑metals, carbon compounds, atomic structure, chemical reactions), Biology (cell, tissues, diversity of life, human physiology, reproduction, heredity, ecology, food resources, diseases), Physics (motion, force, gravitation, work‑energy‑power, sound, light, electricity, magnetism, modern physics). These are tested up to Class X level for TGT and up to Graduation/Post‑Graduation depth for PGT.
TGT/PGT Mathematics: Number system, algebra, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, geometry (Euclidean), mensuration, statistics, probability - with increasing depth at PGT.
TGT/PGT Social Studies: History (ancient, medieval, modern India, world history, Haryana’s role in freedom movement), Geography (physical features, climate, resources, agriculture, Indian and Haryana geography), Civics (constitution, democracy, Panchayati Raj, UN), Economics (development, sectors, money and banking, globalisation, consumer rights).
TGT/PGT English: Reading comprehension, grammar (verb patterns, tenses, narration, voice, articles, determiners, phrasal verbs, parts of speech), literature (text‑based questions from Haryana board syllabus for Classes VI‑X), pedagogy.
TGT/PGT Hindi: History of Hindi language and literature, detailed knowledge of prescribed textbooks (Basant), grammar (रस, छंद, अलंकार, संधि, समास, वाक्य शुद्धि), pedagogy.

The HTET qualifying certificate is awarded to candidates who secure the minimum cut‑off marks. The exam is qualifying in nature; it does not guarantee a job. The cut‑offs are category‑wise and uniform across all three levels.
| Category | Qualifying percentage | Qualifying marks (out of 150) |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS / OBC (all states) | 60% | 90 |
| SC and Differently Abled/Physically Challenged (Haryana domicile) | 55% | 82 |
| SC and Differently Abled/Physically Challenged (other states) | 60% | 90 |
The HTET certificate remains valid for 7 years from the date of issuance. There is no limit on the number of attempts. You can reappear to improve your score even after qualifying.
