If you are hunting for a neat, weightage-labeled MAH MCA CET syllabus breakdown for 2026, let me stop you right there - one does not exist as an official document. The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, publishes broad topics. It has never released a chapter-wise marks distribution. Any website promising exact weightage numbers - “General English: 18 marks, Computer Concepts: 22 marks” - is guessing, often recycling decade-old patterns that the CET Cell does not confirm.
What you can bank on is this: the test is a 200-mark MCQ sprint across four sections, there is zero negative marking, and every question pulls from high-school and undergraduate-level understanding of mathematics, logical reasoning, English usage, and computer fundamentals. Knowing that changes how you prepare. You spread your bets across all four sections instead of obsessing over one. You practise speed over depth. And you stop chasing weightage charts that have no authoritative source.
As of 14 June 2026, the MAH MCA CET 2026 exam has already been held - on 30 March 2026. The official information brochure for that cycle was released by the State CET Cell and remains the most reliable reference for the 2026-27 admission season. Since no structural changes have been flagged, the syllabus and pattern documented below will almost certainly carry forward unchanged for the next cycle. Here is exactly what the official brochure says, what past papers suggest about topic patterns, and how to turn all of that into a preparation strategy you can trust.
MAH MCA CET 2026: What the Official Brochure Says
The architecture of the exam is stable year-on-year. The State CET Cell’s information brochure for 2026 confirms the following structure, which you should treat as authoritative.
Exam Structure
Section-Wise Distribution of Questions and Marks
This is the only official weightage you need - and it is section-level, not topic-level. The Mathematics & Statistics and Reasoning sections together contribute 120 marks out of 200, which means they deserve the larger share of your preparation time. But with zero negative marking, you cannot afford to neglect English or Computer Concepts either; every unattempted question is a lost opportunity.
The brochure also makes clear that there is no negative marking. You attempt all 100 questions. An incorrect answer earns zero, same as a blank. So any educated guess has positive expected value.
The Official Syllabus, Verbatim
The State CET Cell published the syllabus inside the 2026 information brochure. I have reproduced it below exactly as it appears, with only minimal formatting for readability. This is the one document you should treat as syllabus gospel - nothing else.
Mathematics & Statistics (30 questions, 60 marks)
The questions cover high-school mathematics (up to the 12th standard). The topics listed are:
- Algebra: Fundamental operations in algebra, expansion, factorization, quadratic equations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, binomial theorem, permutations and combinations.
- Co-ordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian co-ordinates, equations of a line, mid-point, intersections etc., equations of a circle, distance formulae, pair of straight lines, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola, simple geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, scaling.
- Differential Equations: Differential equations of first order and their solutions, linear differential equations with constant coefficients, homogenous linear differential equations.
- Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, height and distance, inverse function.
- Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, averages, dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, and measures of dispersions, skewness and kurtosis, random variable and distribution functions, mathematical expectations, binomial, Poisson, normal distributions, curve fitting, and principle of least squares, correlation and regression.
- Arithmetic: Ratios and proportions, problems on time-work, distance-speed, percentage, etc.
- Basic Set Theory and Functions: Set, relations and mappings.
- Mensuration: Areas, triangles and quadrilaterals, area and circumference of circles, volumes and surface areas of simple solids such as cubes, spheres, cylinders and cones.
Logical / Abstract Reasoning (30 questions, 60 marks)
The official description is brief: “This shall include the questions to measures how quickly and logically you can think. This section will cover logical situations and questions based on the facts given in the passage. This test shall check the problem solving capability of the candidate.”
That gives no chapter list. What it signals is that you should expect analytical puzzles, data sufficiency, pattern recognition, and logical deduction questions drawn from a wide pool.
English Comprehension and Verbal Ability (20 questions, 40 marks)
The brochure states: “Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidate’s general understanding of the English language. There will be questions on the topics such as basic English grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, synonyms antonyms, sentence correction, word & phrases, jumbled paragraph.”
It is functional English, not literary. You will not see poetry analysis; you will see passages, error-spotting, and word-level accuracy.
Computer Concepts (20 questions, 40 marks)
The Computer Concepts syllabus is the most granular in the brochure. Topics listed:
- Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), structure of instructions in CPU, input / output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back-up devices.
- Data Representation: Representation of characters, integers, and fractions, binary and hexadecimal representations, binary arithmetic: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, signed arithmetic and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point representation of numbers, normalized floating point representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams.
- Computer Architecture: Block structure of computers, communication between processor and I/O devices, interrupts.
- Computer Language: Assembly language and high level language, computer programming in C.
- Operating System Basics
What the Official Syllabus Leaves Unsaid: Topic Patterns from Past Exams
The CET Cell syllabus is a boundary document, not a study guide. It tells you what can be tested, not what usually gets tested. To prioritise within each section, candidates and coaching faculty build topic maps by analysing recalled questions from previous years. These are not official weightages - treat them as observable patterns that appear frequently enough to merit attention.
One detailed analysis of the MAH MCA CET 2025 Mathematics section, for example, showed that out of 30 mathematics questions in one shift, probability and probability distribution accounted for 5 questions, trigonometry for 4, permutations and combinations for 3, vectors and differential equations for 2 each, and co-ordinate geometry and algebra for 1 each. Nine questions were rated easy, sixteen medium, and five hard. This does not mean every year mirrors that exact distribution, but it tells you that probability and statistics are not an afterthought - they are among the most heavily tested sub-topics.
Similarly, across the four sections, certain question types surface repeatedly. In reasoning, seating arrangements, blood relations, syllogisms, coding-decoding, and direction-sense puzzles appear almost every year. In English, 4-5 questions on jumbled paragraphs are common, alongside synonym-antonym pairs and one or two short reading comprehension passages. In Computer Concepts, binary arithmetic, Boolean algebra, and C-language fundamentals are staples; memory organisation and OS basics follow.
The bottom line: the official syllabus is your map; past paper analysis is your compass. Use both, but do not confuse the map for the compass.
Sample Questions from the Official 2026 Brochure
The CET Cell includes specimen questions in the information brochure to help candidates understand what to expect. These are not exhaustive, but they reveal the style and difficulty range. Here are brief examples without reproducing entire passages.
- Mathematics: One question asks for the height of a tree before it was broken, given the angle the upper part makes with the ground and the horizontal distance to where it touches - a classic trigonometry-plus-mensuration application. Another asks for the length of the major axis of an ellipse given its equation, and a third involves three mutually exclusive events with conditional probability expressions.
- Reasoning: A sample set describes the scheduling of six plays across Monday to Saturday with multiple constraints. You must deduce the schedule, identify which day a specific play cannot be staged on, and determine which play immediately follows another. This tests sequential logic, exactly the kind of multi-condition puzzle that appears in the actual exam.
- English: A passage with numbered blanks tests contextual vocabulary. Another set asks for synonyms and the nearest meaning of bold-underline words in sentences, checking both word knowledge and comprehension. Jumbled sentences requiring rearrangement also appear.
- Computer Concepts: One question gives a binary number and asks for its decimal equivalent; another asks which symbols represent a block of code in C. These are factual, one-step questions - high-speed scoring opportunities if you have covered the basics.
These samples confirm that the exam rewards breadth and quick recognition, not deep theory.
How to Use This Syllabus to Build a Preparation Plan
The No-Negative-Marking Advantage
This is the single most tactical detail you absorb. Since wrong answers cost nothing, your exam-day goal is to mark every one of the 100 bubbles. The risk is not guessing - it is running out of time and leaving answers blank.
Train with that mindset from the first mock test. When you hit a question you cannot solve in 45 seconds, eliminate two obviously wrong options, mark your best guess, flag it if the software permits, and move on. Return only if time allows.
Sectional Time Strategy
You have 90 minutes for 100 questions - roughly 54 seconds per question. But some question types (vocabulary, basic computer facts, simple arithmetic) take under 30 seconds, while others (multi-step probability, complex puzzles) need up to 2 minutes. A practical time budget that experienced test-takers often use:
This is a guide, not a straitjacket. If you are a mathematics-major and solve quant in 20 minutes, shift that surplus to reasoning or computer concepts where you are weaker.
Phase-Wise Preparation
Phase 1: Diagnostic (one week). Take one full-length past paper or a credible mock test cold. Do not study first. Note your section-wise scores. If you score 85% in English but 30% in Computer Concepts, you know exactly where your time should go.
Phase 2: Sectional depth (four to six weeks). Work each section independently.
- For Mathematics & Statistics, start with arithmetic and algebra - they are foundational and voluminous. Then move to trigonometry and co-ordinate geometry, which mix formula recall with diagram interpretation. Probability, statistics, and differential equations are the high-density topics; tackle them last when your numerical fluency is sharp.
- For Reasoning, spend a week on topic-by-topic drilling: one day for series, one for analogies, one for blood relations, one for direction sense, two for puzzles and seating arrangements. Then shift to mixed sets.
- For English, read one 400-word editorial passage daily and answer self-framed comprehension questions. Do grammar drills on error-spotting and sentence improvement. Build vocabulary through context - words that appear in technology and business articles are more useful than obscure GRE lists.
- For Computer Concepts, a rapid first pass - one week to cover all topics at a definitional level. Then take an MCQ book and solve chapter-wise. Flag every term you cannot define in one line; revisit only those.
Phase 3: Integrated practice (two to three weeks). Full-length, timed tests, attempting all 100 questions each time. Analyse errors on two axes: knowledge gaps (you got the concept wrong) and speed gaps (you knew it but took too long). Fix knowledge gaps by re-reading the concept. Fix speed gaps by solving easier variants until the pattern becomes automatic.
Phase 4: Final revision (last week). Formula sheets, C-programming syntax flashcards, OSI model layers, binary conversion tricks, and a daily 90-minute timed mock to keep the rhythm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an official chapter-wise weightage for MAH MCA CET?
No. The State CET Cell publishes a broad syllabus outline inside its information brochure. It has never released a chapter-wise marks distribution for individual topics. Any website or coaching institute claiming specific weightage numbers - for example, “Trigonometry: 8 marks” - is offering estimates based on past paper analysis, not an official document. The only confirmed weightage is section-level: Mathematics & Statistics (60 marks), Logical Reasoning (60 marks), English (40 marks), and Computer Concepts (40 marks).
Where can I download the official MAH MCA CET syllabus PDF?
The syllabus is not a standalone PDF. It is part of the annual information brochure published by the State CET Cell. For the 2026 cycle, the brochure was available at cetcell.mahacet.org. For future cycles, navigate to the MCA CET section of the website and download the latest brochure once released. The syllabus segment is usually a few pages within that document.
How many sections does the MAH MCA CET exam have?
Four sections: Mathematics & Statistics (30 questions), Logical / Abstract Reasoning (30 questions), English Comprehension and Verbal Ability (20 questions), and Computer Concepts (20 questions). All are compulsory, and the full test is delivered as a single computer-based session of 90 minutes.
Is there negative marking in MAH MCA CET?
No. There is zero negative marking for incorrect answers. The official brochure states this explicitly. Unanswered questions also carry zero marks. You should attempt all 100 questions - an educated guess costs nothing.
What is the eligibility criteria for MAH MCA CET?
As per the 2026 information brochure, you must be an Indian national and hold a bachelor’s degree of minimum three years’ duration from a recognised university. You need at least 50% aggregate marks (45% for candidates belonging to reserved categories, EWS, and PWD from Maharashtra). Mathematics or Statistics must have been studied at the 10+2 level or at graduation. Candidates appearing for their final-year qualifying examination are also eligible. There is no upper age limit.
What is the exact distribution of questions and marks in each section?
What topics are covered under Computer Concepts in the official syllabus?
The 2026 brochure lists: Computer Basics (organization, CPU, memory, I/O devices, back-up devices); Data Representation (character, integer, fraction representation, binary and hexadecimal arithmetic, signed and two’s complement arithmetic, floating point, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams); Computer Architecture (block structure, processor-I/O communication, interrupts); Computer Language (assembly and high-level language, C programming); and Operating System Basics.
Do questions repeat from previous years’ MAH MCA CET papers?
Exact word-for-word repetition is rare, but question types and concepts recur with high frequency. In Mathematics, for example, probability distribution problems, trigonometric identities, and differential equation solving have appeared in multiple cycles. Reasoning puzzles based on scheduling, linear seating, and blood relations are staples. Practicing previous years’ papers familiarises you with these recurring patterns and improves speed under timed conditions.
How should I prepare if I have no computer science background?
The Computer Concepts section tests fundamentals, not advanced programming. A 15-20 day sprint through a glossary-style computer-awareness book covering definitions of CPU components, memory types, binary arithmetic, Boolean algebra, and OS basics is effective. Follow that with MCQ practice. Many questions are definitional - if you have seen the term once, you can pick the correct answer from four options. C programming basics (syntax, data types, control structures) need a few extra days but are limited to surface-level knowledge.
When is the next MAH MCA CET likely to be conducted?
The 2026 exam was held on 30 March 2026. Historically, the CET Cell opens registration in January and conducts the test in March. For the 2027 cycle, expect a similar timeline. Monitor cetcell.mahacet.org for notifications. Do not rely on third-party portals for dates - they frequently circulate speculative timelines.
Is there any sectional cut-off in MAH MCA CET?
The State CET Cell does not enforce sectional cut-offs. The merit list is prepared based on the total score across all four sections. However, individual institutes participating in the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) may apply their own criteria during counselling. Check with your target colleges directly.
Are calculators allowed in the exam?
No. Rough sheets are provided at the test centre for manual calculations. Practice mental arithmetic and quick written calculations as part of your preparation, especially for the Mathematics section where speed with percentages, ratios, and algebraic simplification matters.
