NTA finalised the NEET UG 2026 syllabus in December 2025 and published the unchanged version on 8 January 2026. The structure is identical to 2025: 180 compulsory questions across Physics (45), Chemistry (45), Botany (45) and Zoology (45). No Section B with optional questions remains. This means every topic in the syllabus is now potentially examinable, and the weightage patterns from the last five years become your most reliable guide for allocating effort.
The subject split is deceptively simple - 720 marks, 180 minutes, four blocks of 45 questions each. But the real story is in the weight distribution. Biology carries 360 marks, exactly half the paper. Within Chemistry, Organic and Inorganic sections together command roughly 65-70% of the subject’s 180 marks, while Physical Chemistry accounts for the rest. Physics spreads its 45 questions across 20 units, but six chapters consistently generate more than half the questions. This is not random; it is a pattern that has held through 2021-2025 and shows no sign of shifting.
Before mapping the weightage, confirm you meet the NEET UG eligibility criteria. The syllabus itself draws exclusively from NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 curricula, and the NMC has removed several topics that used to feature prominently. If you are still studying transport in plants, earthworm anatomy, or environmental chemistry in depth, you are wasting revision hours on content that will not appear.
Physics is where NEET becomes a ranking filter. Over the last five years, a cluster of seven chapters - Current Electricity, Electrostatic Potential & Capacitance, Ray Optics, Gravitation, Semiconductor Electronics, Moving Charges & Magnetism, and Oscillations - has contributed roughly 40-45% of the Physics section. In absolute terms, that is 18-20 questions out of 45.
The weightage table below reflects a consensus across multiple years of paper analysis. NTA does not release official chapter weightage, so these are trend-based estimates drawn from 2021-2025 question counts.

Notice that Class 12 topics dominate heavily - roughly 55-58% of the Physics section. Current Electricity alone is a 4-5 question chapter every single year. Semiconductor Electronics never drops below two questions. If you are short on time, start with the chapters that are worth seven to nine marks each, and leave the one-question units for light reading.
What trips students: treating Physics as a pure numerical drill. The syllabus lists Experimental Skills as a separate unit, and those concepts - vernier calipers, screw gauge, metre bridge - are embedded into theoretical questions frequently. Expect 2-3 questions that check whether you understand the instrument, not just the equation.
Chemistry splits into Physical, Organic, and Inorganic, and the marks are not equal. Over 2021-2025, Organic Chemistry accounted for 35-37% of the section (16-17 questions), Inorganic roughly 30-34% (14-15 questions), and Physical 32-34% (14-15 questions). The Class 12 syllabus carries about 58-60% of the Chemistry weightage, consistent with Physics.

Coordination Compounds surged in 2024 and stayed high in 2025; it is no longer a small chapter. Solutions jumped from zero questions in 2023 to five in 2024 and three in 2025. On the other hand, Electrochemistry disappeared from the 2025 paper entirely - a reminder that weightage is a trend, not a guarantee.
Organic - particularly Hydrocarbons, Aldehydes-Ketones-Carboxylic Acids, and Basic Principles - forms a block that yields 16-18 marks reliably. Inorganic’s core is Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds, p-block, and d-block, with Periodicity now contributing consistently. Physical Chemistry’s big three are Solutions, Thermodynamics, and Chemical Kinetics.
Biology is 360 marks, and over 85-90% of the questions are NCERT-direct. But the mark distribution across chapters is anything but uniform. The table below merges Botany and Zoology into a single biology weightage for the current syllabus, using 2021-2025 data. Deleted chapters are omitted.

Molecular Basis of Inheritance is the single largest chapter in biology - 8-9 questions in some years. Genetics (Principles plus Molecular) and Biotechnology together typically command 20-25 marks, and they are entirely Class 12 topics. Human Physiology (despite digestion and absorption being deleted) still clusters around 10-12 questions across its remaining sub-units. Ecology’s combined weight is 7-8 marks, split among Organisms, Ecosystem, and Biodiversity.
The Class 11 vs Class 12 split in Biology is more balanced than in Physics and Chemistry: Class 11 contributes roughly 50-53% of the section. Do not make the mistake of prioritising Class 12 biology at the expense of Plant Physiology or Morphology, because those are where marks leak.
The NMC revised the syllabus significantly in 2024, and those removals remain in effect. Studying deleted topics wastes time and introduces confusion.

When in doubt, cross-check with the official NTA bulletin, not a third-party book. Many printed guides still carry the old syllabus.
Weightage data answers one question: where should I spend my limited hours? The answer is not “everywhere equally.” The top five chapters in Physics alone account for roughly 30% of the section’s marks, and the top five in each Chemistry block contribute a similar concentration. In Biology, eight chapters generate half the section’s marks.
Your study sequence should reflect this. Build a strong foundation with high-weightage chapters first, then plug into medium-weightage ones, and skim the one-question units last. For the Re-NEET 2026 on 21 June 2026, the final month strategy works in reverse: start with your weakest high-weightage areas, move to medium chapters, and only glance at the lowest-weightage ones in the last two days.
Time allocation on exam day matters as much. Biology (Botany + Zoology) should take about 75-80 minutes - you are protecting 360 marks. Chemistry, being more predictable if you know NCERT well, can be completed in 40-45 minutes. Physics, which requires more calculation and can be mentally taxing, gets the remaining 55-65 minutes. Always buffer 10 minutes for OMR and a quick scan of flagged questions. The recommended order is Biology first, then Chemistry, then Physics. Starting with Biology builds momentum; finishing with Physics prevents fatigue from draining your accuracy in the highest-mark section.
