NEET Cutoff Trends:
2019-2025 Closing Ranks

We analyzed 13,198 college-year observations from available General-category NEET closing-rank records. The report shows how the annual distribution moved from 2019 to 2025 and where the data cannot support a causal claim.

What the closing-rank distribution shows

In this dataset, the top-5-percent General-category closing-rank threshold moved from AIR 774 in 2019 to AIR 1,874 in 2025. The median moved from AIR 9,093 to AIR 20,368. A higher numerical closing rank means the sampled seats closed later in AIR order. It does not, by itself, prove score inflation, reduced competition, or a change in an individual student's admission probability.

How the release was calculated

  1. Group available General-category NEET closing-rank observations by counselling year.
  2. Calculate the 5th, 50th and 95th percentile closing ranks for each year.
  3. Publish the annual observation count so changes in coverage remain visible beside the trend.

The 5th percentile describes the more selective end of the available sample, while the 95th percentile describes its broadest end. These are distribution summaries, not cutoff promises for a particular college, category, quota or counselling round.

Limitations and correct use

This is an exploratory trend analysis, not a fixed-cohort experiment or a predictor backtest. Annual coverage grew from 338 college observations in 2019 to 3,010 in 2025, so part of the movement can come from changes in the colleges represented. The underlying database does not yet publish row-level source URLs. Use the chart to frame questions, then verify college, course, category, quota and round cutoffs in the official counselling documents.

Official MCC documents can be checked in the MCC UG archive. The release was reviewed by Shaswat Manoj Jha. Corrections can be submitted through the Admission Guardian contact page.
