Delhi Engineering College

Delhi Engineering College sits on a 10-acre campus in Faridabad, Haryana, and it’s a name that can be a bit misleading. It’s not in Delhi, and it’s a private institution that’s been around since 2009. What you get here is a straightforward, AICTE-approved engineering education affiliated with Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak. The pitch is affordability and practical learning, but there’s a significant gap between the college’s promises and the on-ground reality, especially when it comes to the all-important placement season. For students with modest ranks and a tight budget, it’s an option. For anyone banking on a high-flying corporate career straight out of college, the reviews suggest you should temper those expectations.

Courses and Academic Programs at Delhi Engineering College

The academic portfolio is standard for a mid-sized private engineering college. The B.Tech program is the main draw, with five specializations: Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, and Mechanical Engineering. Each stream has an intake of 60 students. There’s also a lateral entry option for diploma holders and three-year UG Diplomas in ECE and Mechanical.

They mention MBA and M.Tech programs, but details are sparse—so if you’re considering those, a direct inquiry to the college is essential. The curriculum is MDU-prescribed, but the college emphasizes an "industry-aligned" approach. That translates to guest lectures from professionals (TCS, HCL, etc., are name-dropped) and organized industry visits. The faculty, as per student feedback, is a consistent positive. Reviews call them helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, which is a solid point in the college’s favor. The infrastructure supports this with modern, well-equipped labs for each department and smart classrooms.

Delhi Engineering College Placements: Packages, Companies & Reality Check

This is where the narrative splits. Officially, the college states a highest package of ₹10-12 LPA and an average of ₹4-5 LPA for 2024, with a placement rate of around 70%. The listed recruiters are big names: TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Tech Mahindra.

And then you read the student reviews. The sentiment is overwhelmingly skeptical. Phrases like "not good placement as per mentioned" and "no groups comes for the placement" are common. A more blunt review estimates only about 10% of students get placed through campus drives, forcing most to rely on their own efforts. The disconnect is notable, especially for core branches like Mechanical Engineering, where opportunities are reportedly scarce.

The truth likely sits in the middle. A handful of students in Computer Science might land those Infosys or TCS roles, pulling up the average package figure. But the breadth and consistency of recruitment seem lacking. Building your own skills and portfolio for off-campus drives is a strategy you’ll need to adopt from day one.

Fees and Financial Aid at Delhi Engineering College

Affordability is a key selling point. The total tuition for the four-year B.Tech program is approximately ₹3,00,000, which breaks down to ₹75,000 per year. That’s significantly lower than many private engineering colleges in the NCR region.

Where it gets interesting is the scholarship structure. It’s quite extensive:

• Merit-based: Ranging from a 10% fee waiver for 60-65% in 12th grade to a 75% waiver for 90% and above.
• For female students: A flat 50% tuition fee waiver.
• Sports scholarships: For international, national, and state-level players.
• Government schemes: SC/ST/OBC students can avail of the Haryana Government Post Matric Scholarship based on income criteria.

This robust financial aid system makes DEC accessible. The hostel and mess fees are separate and, based on reviews, the food is basic. The total four-year cost with hostel will be higher, but the tuition itself won’t break the bank.

Admissions: Eligibility, Cutoffs & Selection Process

Admissions are primarily entrance-based. For the B.Tech program, your JEE Main score is the key. The college also accepts students through the Haryana State Technical Education Society (HSTES) counseling based on 12th-grade marks. For lateral entry, the Haryana LEET rank is required.

Specific cutoff ranks aren’t publicly detailed, which is typical for many private colleges. The process isn’t centralized through JoSAA; you apply directly to the college or via HSTES counseling. The official website is the source for application forms and deadlines. Given the fee structure and scholarship focus, they likely attract students with mid-range scores looking for a budget-friendly option.

Campus, Hostels and Student Life

The 10-acre campus is described as green and provides the essential facilities. The library is well-stocked with over 6000 titles and is air-conditioned. Sports facilities include grounds for cricket and football, along with indoor game options.

The hostels are separate for boys and girls. The atmosphere is called "adequate," but the food quality is a common complaint, summarized in reviews as "ordinary" and serving a "normal diet." The campus is on the Ballabgarh-Sohna road, a bit removed from central Faridabad, but it’s well-connected by road. The IGI Airport is about a 50-minute drive. It’s a self-contained campus, not a bustling city-center one. Social life will revolve around college events and hostel interactions.

Student Reviews: What Delhi Engineering College Alumni Really Think

Synthesizing the feedback from various sources paints a clear, two-tone picture.

The Good: Almost unanimously, students praise the teaching faculty for their support and expertise. The infrastructure—labs, classrooms, library—is also rated positively. The fee, especially with scholarships, is considered good value. It’s seen as a decent place to get an engineering degree without financial strain.

The Not-So-Good: Placements are the overwhelming pain point. There’s a deep-seated distrust of management claims, with words like "cheating" used in relation to placement statistics. The hostel food is panned. Some reviews also point to a disconnect between the management and student body.

The consensus? It’s a college for learning, funded affordably. Don’t count on it for your job.

Verdict: Is Delhi Engineering College Worth It?

Delhi Engineering College is a specific solution for a specific problem. It’s worth serious consideration if you have a moderate JEE Main rank or 12th-grade score and your primary constraint is budget. The low fees, coupled with an aggressive scholarship policy, make an engineering degree financially feasible here. You’ll likely get competent classroom teaching and decent labs.

However, you should absolutely not enroll here with high placement expectations. Treat the official placement figures with caution and be prepared to be the primary driver of your career search. The location is also somewhat isolated. So, who is it for? A cost-conscious student who sees the degree as a foundational step and is confident, or at least willing, to hustle for internships and jobs independently. If a robust, reliable campus recruitment drive is a top priority, you’ll probably need to look at institutions with a stronger track record, even if it means a higher fee.
